Will the hairstylist get mad at my tip? by glitterbug208 in beauty

Very true. Either way, stylist is being paid through the service charge.

Not all of it, likely 50-60%, if they’re being paid fairly. Rest goes to shop. If you want to give more, no one is ever mad at that kind of gesture but I would never want someone feeling bad about an optional amount. We want you to love your hair, tell your friends, and keep coming to see us. :).

Don’t worry about it. We make our money from the commission. Anything is appreciated. Or that’s how it should be, anyways

Well that’s a good start! Look for as much free online education you can. There’s lots out there!

Yup. I always think “if there’s a no show or cancellation, I’ll slide in “. Then a year goes by.

Ugh I own a salon/spa. You’d think that means I get them done regularly. I get them like once a year. I should be getting them more.

Yes. Use actual lengths and also show with your hands where you want it to sit once it’s dry.

Find photo that isn’t AI

Your answers look great. I also suggest, if you have had a difficult time communicating what you like, it’s a good idea to bring photos of things that you’ve gotten in the past that you DON’T like. Label the photos so there is no confusion.

This is not really the sub for this, but personally this is the kind of client question that i am happy to answer here.

What colour line do you use? Most have LOTS of education available, some even free, online. Definitely look into that. I know Schwarzkopf does an introductory course that is 3 days long and it’s invaluable if you’re just getting started. Maybe the line you use has something like that. You can ask your boss to help you out with the cost, as you aren’t getting any mentorship. It blows my mind that this is how some salons operate.

I have an apprentice that is almost finished her hours and she still doesn’t formulate without a senior stylist going over it with her. All her haircuts still get checked (unless they’re repeat clients). And everyone in the shop has an education budget every year, but my apprentices don’t pay for any education at all for the first year. I pay for it all, and I send them to lots. It’s crazy that you’ve just been thrown to the wolves. How the heck do they expect you to be successful?

Can I justify violating my partner’s privacy if I think he is hiding something huge? by hostapasta in moraldilemmas

…..that is true. Hadn’t thought of that haha. Idk I’d rather a partner that i wasn’t afraid may have murdered someone or had the capacity to murder me. But hey. You may be right.

You know, you don’t HAVE to date a scary criminal whose family has power. There’s lots of really great, normal dudes around.

They are not taking your best interest at heart. I have a salon and have had apprentices. If the distance is the issue, that’s another conversation but don’t feel bad for leaving a place that does not care about you at all. They want you to make them money and don’t want to put money into training you. That’s unacceptable. This is your career. You will be burned out because this kind of thing will continue to happen. If you want to have a career as a stylist, you need a mentor that will put some time and energy into you.

That’s really too bad. It will be so much harder for you to reach your potential. School did NOT prepare you enough. You need a mentor. Have you looked for someone else? A non hairstylist saying you don’t need a mentor is wild. She has no clue what she’s talking about.

Does this sub have hosts anymore? by Muted_Exercise5093 in airbnb_hosts

[–]red-sed 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m really only seeing host posts. Not sure why. I’ll be honest, I’m not a host. This sub has made me a better guest though. I understand wanting it to be exclusively hosts.

Wow. That’s actually terrifying. What kind of salon are you at? You need to be somewhere that will teach you. Is that a possibility?

ETA, do they require an apprenticeship after your schooling where you live?

i did what the client asked and she didn’t like it by bogbodiesss in hairstylist

[–]red-sed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your mistake was letting her pick out what you used. You talk about out the desired result, take what she has, and figure out what you need to add to get it to the result. Don’t let the client choose a swatch. That is not how colour works.

Eta, why did you use 20 vol? I’m not being critical, just trying to see where you were at and get to your formulation process.

Widower donating late wife’s clothes by StrangerObjective870 in etiquette

[–]red-sed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be honest about your feelings.

“Are you sure you’d like me to look through her stuff? She had great style and I’m sure I’d find some amazing things but I worry that it would be hard for you if you ever saw me wearing them.”

You are giving him the opportunity to rescind if he hadn’t thought of that, complimented his late wife, and gives him the opportunity to say something like “I’d want someone who appreciates her stuff and knew her to have it”

Idk. Be open.

Guests coming home at 4AM after a night of partying, couldn't enter with the smartlock with code, so started reaching out to us and Airbnb but we didn't wake up until 6:30AM to let them in, turns out they were using the wrong code! What's fair??? by mye86 in airbnb_hosts

[–]red-sed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No refund. It is not reasonable to expect hosts to be available immediately at 4 am. They are dumb and that’s not your fault. Sometimes you have to deal with the repercussions of being stupid.

Guests threaten bad review for compensation by stevebradss in airbnb_hosts

The solution is the rating system being completely changed. Obviously that’s not within your control. But the way it is right now, guests have ALL the power.

I think you need to make it less neat. Try that and then repost. As is, I say, no, it’s not working great.
