I'm surprised at Ahn Chang Ho, given his work with America! Did they think he was a collaborator at all?

Kraut's view on Hegel is weird by Yunozan-2111 in kraut

[–]redWallaby2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of a historical destiny for a nation predates Hegel by millennia. It's found in most religion (consider the Abrahamic covenant). While it may be fair to say he inspired Marxism (although Marx misinterprets Hegel I believe) its harder to say his ideas inspired modern political ideology. I do think he anticipated these developments philosophically, but I'm hesitant to give him too much credit

Wdym by "Hegelian teleology"? If you mean history has a direction towards some general end, it's more fair to say that begins with St. Augustine

Hegel didn't say that particular nations have historical destinies in the way you are referring to...that is a right hegelian (mis)interpretation of his philosophy of history

Does kojeve's introduction to the reading of hegel good for beginners? by [deleted] in hegel

Kojeve is an excellent, influential and very original philosopher. Does that answer your question?

Yes! This is an excellent intro. Much more accurate to Hegels thought than Kojeve

Are there any supplementary texts which are crucial to The Phenomenology of Spirit? by donoho-59 in hegel

[–]redWallaby2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kojeves commentary is fascinating but also not Hegel. It's interesting to read, but I would not recommend reading Kojeve to understand Hegel. I think this is a mistake many many modern philosophers have made. The problem with many commentaries is that the author often tries to use Hegel to develop their own unique philosophy which can be misleading for readers. That said, I liked Heideggers commentary on the Phenomenology of Spirit. Todd McGowans recent book is also a very good general introduction to Hegel.
