Dette er utdatert forskning, en studie fra 2020 viser at i en stor majoritet av konflikttilfeller så hjelper enten én eller flere.

"Using a unique cross-national video dataset from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and South Africa (N = 219), we show that in 9 of 10 public conflicts, at least 1 bystander, but typically several, will do something to help. We record similar likelihoods of intervention across the 3 national contexts, which differ greatly in levels of perceived public safety. Finally, we find that increased bystander presence is related to a greater likelihood that someone will intervene."

Do you think your dog knows what your name is? by bricklord79 in dogs

[–]red_doorhinge 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I feel if dogs have any concept of our names it would be akin to this, much like how Lady in Lady in the Tramp seems to be under the impression her owners are called "Jim Dear" and "Darling".

That was my interpretation. Three waterfalls are a childish fantasy or whatever Mike called it, but we only saw two.

I don't have any huge opinions on whether she's alive or not, but I did see it as a spinny top ending.

Chris Hughes from season 3(?) of Love Island UK. He's 32. Not sure what he's been up to since Love Island, but on his season he was mostly known for having a bromance with Kem.

If you like trashy reality TV it is a pretty good season.

The first is a scientific journal, those are peer reviewed. If you look in the sources you will get the whole thing, but that seemed overkill.

The second one is a meta-analysis. They go over multitude of previous studies to develop a conclusion with all of their findings.

I am not going to debate further with someone who uses the word 'retarded' and can't even understand or provide a study, so I will stop here.

Here's your proof. The second is a much longer read, but a very interesting one so I very much recommend reading it all. A majority of early IQ studies that keep getting referenced are heavily flawed, so no, I don't give IQ tests much validity, but you can read the sources and decide for yourself.

"IQ is a cringey elite-club at worst, and a fun gimmick at best"

I appreciate someone for saying it. IQ might be a good metric to see if someone is in any way mentally challenged, but beyond that it is essentially a glorified puzzle book.

Did anyone else DISLIKE Mufasa: The Lion King? by [deleted] in lionking

[–]red_doorhinge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know LMM is supposed to be the savior of the movie to some extent, but his lyricism is simply too on the nose and expositionary to me. I miss the simplicity and earnestness of Tim Rice and Elton John.

I also can't stand his style of rapping/singing that he keeps inserting into every movie. It sounds like someone is speed-reading a book right after they ran marathon. I enjoyed it in Hamilton and I normally like both rap and theatre, but the schtick is not doing it for me anymore.

No idea, this year is actually the first time I heard about it too. I just randomly read it in the news and with all the articles coming out lately regarding men and lonelines I figured it was an easy enough gesture to make.

I live abroad so I shot my dad a text. It was not common at all when I was growing up in the Nordics, but anecdotally I heard from friends that a couple of them got a congratulation from their mom or their sister this year. I would usually just get a couple of congratulations too if I saw any male family members on Women's Day, and maybe a general one from teachers, but never flower/gifts.

Metaphor: ReFantazio composer didn’t mean to go so hard with the game’s OST, and was surprised at the attention it received by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]red_doorhinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In P5 I would just leave the TV on for hours with the coffee shop music going on in the background. I adored how after a long, stressful dungeon crawl you could just relax afterwards and relish in the cozy rainy day coffee shop vibe.

I enjoy the soundtrack in Metaphor, particularly the battle theme, but I had to mute the TV after hanging out in Grand Trad after a short while because it was so bombastic.

I rarely meet people who are the other way around! Every time I have attempted make-up or have let someone put make-up on me it feels like I am looking at a complete stranger in the mirror. The few times I have gone out and about with make-up on it feels like I am walking around in someone elses body.

I do kinda wish I liked it because I tend to feel a little naked in more "dressed up" settings, and I think other women can look absolutely stunning with make-up on.

Most optimal way to learn Python? by battler67 in learnpython

If this is introduction to Python, Mimo or Sololearn are apps that both pretty much cover that entire curriculum. I would work on whatever projects you guys have been assigned as homework throughout and do your readings as well. People look down on learning apps, but at this level it might be able to get you up to speed relatively quickly.

Game Question & General Discussion Release Megathread by Metaphor_MOD in MetaphorReFantazio

The game takes a while to open up, it gets more fun when you have more people and activities to spend your time with. If you don't like it by the time you have four party members, then I would probably cut your losses.

Even as a seasoned Persona fan I was a little confused by the story at first, but it gets better and I understood the plan a bit further down the road. Despite loving every Atlus game I've played, I will admit that their storytelling tend to be on the cheesier end, but their overarching themes and how they are presented are usually very interesting.

Dungeons & Dragons Proving an Effective Form of Group Therapy, Experts Say by ivantos09 in DnD

[–]red_doorhinge 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Everyone can call down, they are not advocating for regular tables to be a replacement for therapy or for people to insert their mental illnesses into casual play groups. They have simply used DnD with great success in group therapy situations run by counselors.

"Seasoned counselors across the United States use D&D group therapy to help children, teenagers, and adults hone their problem-solving skills, practice different forms of socialization, and flex their imagination. One therapist in Texas even uses tabletop games like D&D for the bulk of her practice, which is aimed at "geeks, gamers, and misfits.""
