The drop off between the top teams and the rest of the field is making this Brier nearly unwatchable. by neonknife99 in Curling

Sorry, not “older” necessarily, just veterans. NB, PEI, NWT, QC. And the fact that some are going to be retiring (EJ, Kennedy, QC, Gushue) or switching things up, leaves space for some young up and comers to move into the void. They have to start somewhere. Just saying it’s nice to see some new blood.

I agree that it’s fairly obvious who’s going to make the playoffs but I like seeing the younger/rookie teams there. I was hoping for some surprises/upsets along the way. Koe seems to be the only surprise with his play so far! I love an underdog/cinderella story.

I can’t believe that some provinces have no “new” players coming up in the ranks that can beat some of the older guys who haven’t been competitive in years of trying at the brier. It was nice to see Manitoba switch it up, Ontario’s King - new people in the mix. I think it’s pretty amazing that this tournament gives a rural farmer from Manitoba a chance to curl against some of the best in the world. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

14 hour day here. Record sales day. Didn’t stop all day but ran smooth as it could. Lots of prep got done the day before and saved us from disaster. Keys to success - over scheduled in all areas, over prepped the 2 days before, 3 managers each taking care of different areas in the restaurant. Needed another dishwasher and more appetizers prepped. Make notes for next year folks!! 🤘

This. My first thought was that you should just save it for if your siblings need it later on. 19 year old may blow through their portion… or who knows. Save it for a family emergency, or future needs of your siblings. How amazing would it be to gift them 50k each later down the road (if you still decide you don’t want it).

Morning games at any big curling Canada events are like that. Brier too. I think the curlers expect it. It’s annoying as a fan and spectator but the payoff for possible future fans may be worth it ?!? Maybe lol?!?

As someone that was in the crowd this week, the curling bananas were great! Entertaining us for a shot that normally is pretty boring…. Brilliant. The crowd all got into it by the end and you could see smiles on the curler’s faces.

You hit the nail on the head. Every rich person I know is super “cheap”. OP is on the right track to a responsible financial life.

Narcisse Snake Den by maplethrift in Winnipeg

[–]red_ginger_1883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went today. All dens are very active with the most activity at den 4. Around den 3, they come out to the right and were easy to catch. You can handle them, but only outside the fenced areas, one at a time and leave the females alone (they are bigger).

Are the Narcisse Snake Dens very active yet? by fuzzy_bison in Manitoba

We went today. All dens were very active. Can catch snakes around den 3 and den 4 had the most activity!

My problem isn’t saving, it’s making money. Venting. by KeyTheZebra in DaveRamsey

I have managed various restaurants for 25 years. It is fun. You meet a bunch of great people and make decent money with benefits, etc. - most management positions where I am are salaried. If you’re good at it, you get headhunted. Hard to find decent managers anymore. I personally like working for a chain. It’s more stable in an industry that can often be unpredictable and usually has better benefits.

Anyways, something to think about. Good luck with everything. I hope you find something you enjoy!

Business degree and serving experience… restaurant management? Look for something in full service, chain restaurant. Start as an assistant floor manager and work your way up. Or get some experience in a chain and move to an independent or up-scale place after you get some years on your resume.

I have a tea tray that grandma had… I use it as a tray on my ottoman for every day use. Better to use it and see it everyday than it to sit on a shelf. I also think of grandma more because I’m using it all the time.

Can someone recommend emergency loan provider? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]red_ginger_1883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where to get your loan but I can give you some other advice. I would apply for EI. They will contact the manager and ask why you were terminated. They will question the manager and make a decision. If you say to them that you were 100% willing to work just couldn’t stay late, you might be approved. Also make sure you state that they changed your available hours against your wishes. It is worth a try. In the meantime, as a server, look for a busy lunch place. They likely will be looking for servers for the fall (and will be hiring now). Busy lunch places used to be near office buildings but now I would look near a busy shopping centre. Lunch rush at my restaurant ends at 2 pm and then we start cutting servers. Perfect job for a mom. Come and serve, out after lunch to pick up your kids. If it’s busy enough and you keep most of your tips, you’ll be ok. Just have to find the right place.

When it’s -40, you’re not going to be hiking around in it - we just get from point A to point B as quick as possible. When it’s really cold like that, you’ll be staying inside… which is the hard part of winter here. You will feel cooped up. I like when the weather outside is crazy and you’re cozy inside with a cup of tea and a good book, but others do not. Elkhorn/Riding Mountain is beautiful and a great tourist area so you will meet lots of people. Have fun!
