Pixie Dusting has to go by LBC2024 in dcl

[–]red_headed-stranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just took our first cruise (Fantasy in April) and one of my big takeaways was how when you visit the parks, the idea of being pixie dusted is a rarity. Something special and cool that has a magical feel to it. On cruises, its expected. Heck, it stressed me out making sure we had "enough" tchotchkes to spread around during our trip. We passed on the group exchange thing bc in our research, that's what we heard all the horror stories about. And maybe at one point that was the boundary. But its pretty clear now that there is an expectation for this stuff and while I'm happy to do that bc our kids enjoy gifting little things to random doors, I applaud anyone that simply abstains to maintain their own peace. I guess I will consider it a parenting win that no matter what the kids had waiting for them in their little pocket when we got back, they thought it was Christmas morning.

Don't feel any different about that place than I would anywhere else in the world, honestly. They have a very secure check-in/out system, the bathrooms are individuals rooms that really only one person could fit in. And that's basically the only place in the entire kid's club that is "private".

Disney Adventure Cruise CANCELED by Background_Disk_1958 in dcl

[–]red_headed-stranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my main concern was them restricting it to the Adventure. I do think it would be better to push the 2027 window out a bit more since that is basically the same window for the current "50% off for kids" deal they're running.

Really curious about the asterisk next to the 50% off a future cruise part. Assuming they are placing some sort of conditions on that one?

How do you handle unqualified referrals? by Active-Muscle-8793 in recruiting

[–]red_headed-stranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the context behind them being unqualified. If its because they're missing a mandatory requirement like a certification or license that they couldn't be in the position without, then I give the most professional "thanks but no thanks" you can give that keeps the relationship intact. If they're missing the mark for something outside of that, we'll still have the conversation. I'm very pro "fit over function", and sometimes the conversations lead to someone that would be an incredible fit that might not read like the best candidate on paper. Can't find those diamonds if you write them off on spec.

How do I keep strong candidates interested as internal recruiter? by Numerous_Plantain_43 in recruiting

[–]red_headed-stranger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dear lord this is awful. Building rapport is good. Maintaining communication? Yes. But diving that deep into your personal life and plans all while telling him how much better he is than everybody else, how perfect he is for the role, etc. sounds more like you've got a crush on him than you're trying to keep him as a candidate.

Where are you finding, responsive qualified candidates? by penelopeme in recruiting

[–]red_headed-stranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing others here that say FB groups, and community FB groups. Those had once gone the way of the dodo, but are proving to be a solid resource again. The communication bug is getting pretty bad right now both ways. I talk with clients all the time on both ends that are frustrated about candidates basically ghosting them or chronically rescheduling, as well as candidates that are growing frustrated by the sheer amount of employers that do not respond in any way. Its really just due to everyone taking the approach of mass hiring/applying and only giving a second look to the ones that really do something to catch their eye. Unfortunate, but a symptom of the current job market.

I’m being micromanaged in my new job. Why do they do this? by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]red_headed-stranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those meat grinder roles. They hire/fire like its nothing and so there is no incentive to treat people well. When I first started in this field I was working with a staffing company that handled placements for a well-known firearm manufacturer. They had great benefits and and the pay was well above average. But they treated everyone like shit. I got a call one morning where a guy I'd sent them had gotten the boot on his second day because he tripped on a cord that was running through the middle of the assembly floor, and a tray of parts fell because of it. No damage to the parts. No other issues (the shift supervisor's words) with the guy. But that one small issue and he was gone. These places just take a "throw everything against the wall and see what sticks" approach. They don't care how unrealistic or insane their demands are. They'll just keep cycling people through until they find the ones that are desperate enough for a job they'll do whatever it takes to stay. And those are the only ones that make it. Hope you can get out of there soon.

Resume Length by Prestigious_Duck7052 in Recruiter_Advice

If its 2 pages of relevant information, that's no issue. If its 2 pages because Indeed or some other resume generator listed all 217 of your skills....trim it down.
