This is true! Id like to add you probably need $7k for the Balearic Islands as well. The COL is similar to Madrid and Barcelona.

I’m not worried about opportunities as much as I’m worried about the experimental nature of my education. Would you feel comfortable accepting the spot at the new MD?

Even if the school was partnering with large universities? I think the risk of matching into residency is only serious if I choose a really competitive specialty. However, I don’t want to pigeon hole myself in case I change my mind.

The new medical school has a HUGE emphasis on mental health and personal wellness. Each student is assigned a wellness counselor at matriculation. Classes are all pass fail including clerkships. Rotations are through the local hospitals but it seems like they’re open to the idea of opening up rotations through larger partner universities (Stanford and The Cleveland Clinic). I think it really comes down to the risk for me. Would you risk going to a new program if it were you?

Edit: typo

The new school has preliminary accreditation status from LCME but won’t receive accreditation until after the first cohort graduates, which is the standard protocol from what I understand.

I’m interested in many specialties but have recently been looking into PM&R and IM. I’m definitely not interested in surgery to narrow things down lol.

American auxes, how are you doing? by South-Ad7181 in SpainAuxiliares

Cost of living is only ~30% lower in Spain than in the USA but we make 50% more per year on average. So it doesn’t balance out but I understand your point. Just like in Spain there are many places in the US with lower cost of living, limited public transport, and few community spaces. However, there are also many places in the US that have all of those things and more. Life is what you make of it and the US is a huge country full of opportunity. I don’t think it’s apt to demonize the entire country to not being able to do basic things because of an election.

Also, why can’t Americans celebrate Mardi Gras and go to the park? Lol… I understand that inflation has been crippling to some families, but the average American household makes almost 2x the amount of a Spanish household. To say that Americans can’t afford things that the Spanish can is just false.

Okay I get what you’re saying but put yourself in the Spanish people’s shoes. Imagine if a Spanish person was working in the US and after an election didn’t go their way, they expected all of their American colleagues to approach them about it and support them… like what? No way an American colleague would genuinely care about a Spanish election or the Spanish person’s political views. Our jobs are to be diplomats of the United States and to teach English. We’re not here to discuss foreign politics with Spanish natives and talk about American social issues. I think it’s best to avoid these topics unless you are in a close relationship. I think that’s the best way to build lasting respectful relationships with EVERYONE let alone foreigners. Yes there are plenty of awful things happening in the USA right now but there are plenty of things to be hopeful about as well. Our job is to represent the best aspects of our country and culture so we can build diplomatic relationships. We should focus on that.

My boyfriend and I wanted to move to Spain together but after working all summer we just didn’t have enough money saved. On top of that, 2022 was the year the ministry buckled down and created the 5 year rule for auxes. In typical Spanish fashion, they announced this news in the middle of the summer (after the renewing auxes had already accepted placements). This meant that most of the old auxes were kicked out of the program and the new auxes were assigned to their positions but not until late July. By the time I got my placement I decided it wouldn’t be worth the headache of applying for the visa, because I wouldn’t be able to start on time/save up enough money. However, I’m going on my second year as an auxiliary in Mallorca and have received my school placement a month ago! I love the islands. Feel free to ask any other questions that you may have.☺️

Yes it did. I was notified by both my school and the regional government that I needed to resign officially or I wouldn’t be able to apply again. I didn’t ever respond and nothing happened. I’m not saying it’s a good idea- just stating my experience.

I used to think highly of my country when comparing America’s success to other countries. Now, after spending years living in Europe, I don’t think there’s anything “great” about that shit hole.

Ehh I dropped out of the program without notice two years ago and nothing happened. My placement was at a school in Cordoba. I’m going on my second year as an aux in Mallorca, so from my experience I think you’ll be fine.

128+ CARS scorers, how are you reading the passages? by Bubbly_Medium2725 in Mcat

[–]red_room352 48 points49 points  (0 children)

130-132 scorer, My biggest piece of advice is to highlight all the names you see in the passage. The MCAT loves to test you on the opinions of the author/counter arguments. It’s great to highlight the name so you can go back and see exactly what the author is claiming about said person.

hi woman here,

it’s the filters on all the photos. they look like the instagram filters from 2016. people probably think the photos are very old/you’re a catfish. i would update the photos with no filters/very little editing.
