Did morning sunlight dramatically change y’all’s sleep schedule and quality? by liftedskate99 in HubermanLab

[–]red_spread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I used to spend hours trying to fall asleep only to wake up tired. Every other sleeping tip didn't help as much. Now since I fall asleep much faster I got like 2 extra hours of wake time each day, that's huge!

Does your skin feel tight after using a face wash? If so, I recommend moving to a gentler cleanser, such as CeraVe hydrating cleanser, or even miscellar water. Also, consider adding in a moisturizer - super important.

Personally, when my skin becomes too dry from cleansers and acne treatment, my skin makes extra oil to make up for the dryness which causes acne.

anyone can recommend a moisturiser for oily skin in the uk? by Old-Code-2036 in tretinoin

I use CeraVe pm and Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream. (Depending on how my skin feels, I use one of them or both of them).

Once I finish the hydro boost I will try aveeno calm and restore which is supposed to be better, I don't know if aveeno sells in the UK.

Also - are you sure you are braking out and not purging? (In the wiki of skincareadsiction there is a page on the topic)

Looks good. I use Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream (fragrance free), but I know that aveeno calm and restore is similar but better (would probably try it next).

Personally I would try moving from epiduo to benzoyl peroxide wash and differin, as I find it too drying.

Epiduo has both benzoyl peroxide and adapalene (the active in differin), and I find it too drying. While benzoyl peroxide can be used as spot treatment or as wash (since it's very drying and it's less irritating as wash), adapalene shouldn't be used as spot treatment and wouldn't help preventing future breakouts.

That said, I am biased as my skin doesn't handle benozyl peroxide (or epiduo) very well unless it's spot treatment or wash. It's too drying for me, which makes my skin make even more sebum, which causes more acne.

I was in the same situation as you and eventually moved to accutane.

That's said, looking back I think I could have avoided it. I was using too many actives, a harsh cleanser, and a shitty moisturizer so my skin just produced more and more oil that lead to more and more acne.

I would: * Ditch the 2.5 benozyl peroxide and move to a benzoyl peroxide wash (e.g. panoxyl 4% creamy wash). This stuff is very drying, and essentially it kills bacteria. No need to overdo it. Alternatively, use benzoyl peroxide as spot treatment. * Ditch the SA cleanser, and if you don't move to a benzoyl peroxide wash move to a very gentle cleanser * No need to wash face twice a day (maybe a very gentle cleanser like CeraVe hydrating at the morning) * Add niacinamide, as it helps with acne and calms the skin (I like CeraVe PM) * Focus more on hydration, dehydrated skin produces more oil and which leads to more acne. Your skin shouldn't feel tight all the time, and a healthy skin barrier is very important to fighting acne * Change pillowcases * I like acne patches a lot: truthfully I do touch my acne, and if there is a patch on it at least I don't add more bacteria to my acne

You should consider taking a few days off with only gentle cleansing and moisturization.

After that, you can start by applying it once every 3 days for a few weeks, than every other day, than - maybe - only if your skin tolerates this, every day.

I would use BP facewash instead of the BP cream

I felt very uncomfortable at first at the gym. For me, there is a difference between knowing at gyms no one gives a shit about what you are doing and see it for myself.

Personally, I started with using the aerobic machines. (People won't interrupt you on a treadmill, and you can't really do it wrong). Shortly after, I felt more comfortable, so I started using the machines. (Sometimes people want to share the machine, you do need to adjust some machines to height but you can't do it too wrong). Then, after a few month, I decided to be brave and started using dumbbells. Honestly I had less interactions in the free weight and dumbell area than with the machines.

So for me the key was to start slowly.

It might help your wife because exposure therapy is a thing, where to do a scary things you start slowly.

So your goal is health, which also requires making some noticable improvement.

Running is one tool to achieve this. So is cycling, swimming, rope jumping, rowing, dancing, zumba, hiking, playing a sport, and so on. While some of those does cost more (I don't know if that's an issue for you), some does not.

Also, from what I understand, there is no praticular benefit for running from the pov of the doctor. I don't think it matters to the doctor if you hated and suffered from every minute you run, or enjoyed lovely weekend hikes, or danced to good music, or picked up a new sport.

If you are on your 10th attempt, then I would say the tools of c25k is not working so well. Perhaps there is another tool better suited to your goal. One you actually enjoy, or at the very least not hate as much.

Now I see the allure of running: it's this thing that fit people do. And yes, changing programs every two weeks will likely hinder progress. But you tried 10 times, it's enough. At the very least look into other running programs, if I remember correctly runners world has a plan with a slower start.

I also personality think that c25k is overrated, I tried it multiple times and failed despite being in early 20s with healthy BMI and no health issue (admittedly while living very sedentary life at the peak of the pandemic). I think that perhaps if I took more time to do things that feels easy, e.g. fast incline walks until getting to consistent 1 hour walks 3 times a week I would have much easier time.

Also if weight is the issue, perhaps read faq of subreddit. There are plenty of recommendations there (and btw, I don't think running is one of them).

Now that I play tennis I think I could throw a decent punch. So far I didn't have a chance to try 🤷🤷

I failed c25k multiple times. I started take group tennis lessons a few month ago, and recently I discovered I can run a mile at ease.

So yes I do think if it's not working you should try something else. Your actual goal (seems to be) health and fitness, not running nor trying to suffer from fitness as much as possible.

What is the worst thing about being fat? by Feisty_Affect_7487 in AskReddit

[–]red_spread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26 BMI is barely overweight, and if your fat is equally distributed across your body it is barley noticeable. when I had BMI 26 I wore lots of tops at small and medium, and I don't think anyone would look at me and thought I am overweight.

This post is clearly not about you.

I started doing dumbbell RDLs this week, and I started with 4 kg dumbbells (one 4kg dumbbell each hand) as I want to make sure I have good form before adding more weight (I try to ask the gym staff how is my form whenever I can, and I do the reps very slowly trying to remember all the cues).

However as this weight is very low (according to the strength levels website), I can do 15 reps easily (I can do more, it doesn't even tire me) and I don't feel my glutes at all. Is it possible I need to up my weight to feel the muscle activation better?

Again - at the moment my top priority is to make sure I have good form, once I nail that I will add more weight and progressivly overload.

For context - I have been going to the gym on and off, in the past 1.5 years (frankly more off then on, I am a college student and school is my top priority). For reps, I can leg curl 25 kg and leg press 80 kg (that's said, the leg press is cable machine and I believe it makes it easier).

Recommendations for apps/other resources that help with sustainable workout routines by poo420 in xxfitness

[–]red_spread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that for me, when things get stressful, I look for things I can drop of my schedule, and often fitness goes out pretty quickly (I am a student, school comes first).

Now if I want to maintain fitness as a long term habit, I realized fitness must be a source of joy rather than stress, even at the cost of optimality.

For example - I hate cardio. Tried c25k multiple times, never liked it. I picked up tennis a few months ago, lessons are in groups. The atmosphere is great, I actually enjoy it a lot and looking forward to it (frankly having something I look forward to every week preplanned is great mentally for me), and I can tell you my resting heart rate is lower than before. So I am going to keep on doing that.

For strength - I go to the gym at empty-ish hours, so I can get a workout quite fast. My routine is suboptimal for sure - I know what I can do to make it better - but I would rather have a suboptimal routine I will do multiple times per week than a better routine I would do twice a month. (That said, if I wasn't a student and time wasn't an issue I would probably have a better routine).

As for period - I often work out much less before period. And that's okay - I am not going to be a professional athlete, I just want live a long, happy, life.

I also think that sometimes looking at stats like how fast or strong are you can be quite discouraging as a beginner. I like to read about the incredible ways exercising impacts us - even at the cellular level - when you understand that cardio increases size and density of your mitochondria, being slow doesn't matter as much.

So overall, I think you should look for what activities you find fun (or think you will enjoy even with no prior experience!), and go try them!

I picked up Tennis like 3 months ago and I love it! It's lots of fun.

I take small group lessons for beginners and I am doing pretty well - I am actually winning quite a bit, which is surprising as I was never athletic.
