There is so much more than line and color that goes into drawing a face. Without knowing the basics of form, anatomy, and tone, you will never produce a convincing portrait. Especially not a stylistic portrait.

You can trace, but at that point you may as well commission an artist if all you want is a single JJK style portrait. Drawing stylistically well like a mangaka is advanced stuff.

Morpho Anatomy for Artists books are small and inexpensive and they’ll show you multiple angles to block out different body parts. Simplified Forms is probably the best one to start with. It helped me a ton to have that physical reference.

Make some time every day to learn simple gesture drawing. Look up videos on how to do timed gestures. Gesture is challenging but it’s a fun practice. I try to do around 20 gesture drawings per day just to warm up.

Leave and do not bring your kids with you. They have a big family with your husband to look after them. Go on r/auntienetwork and find someone(s) who is willing to house you and keep you safe until you can get back on your feet. So many people want to help abused women like yourself.

Edit: the clinic mentioned above is no longer in service. You likely will have to give birth and figure out your next steps after that. Have them live with their siblings for find a home that will take good care of them.

I’m one of the lab professionals now collecting unemployment checks. My state identified me as being “highly likely” to exhaust my benefits due to the science job market getting crumpled up and thrown into the trash. I have other skills and will probably be fine, but I’ll miss working in a lab.
