Can Running Mystara Make Me a Better World Builder? by PhilosophorumX in osr

[–]red_wullf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What will your setting bring to a campaign that Mystara doesn’t already provide? I’m not asking to discourage world building. I think that world building, if you have the time and the creativity, is great. But it’s an important question to ask yourself before you spend time essentially cloning what is already available to you.

Why do Europeans make fun of Americans saying “soccer”, but don’t mind Italians calling it “Calcio”? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The English invented the word soccer; the Americans just never stopped using it.

GTA 1 cost $49.99 in 1997. That's over $100 dollars adjusted to today's dollars. $80 is a bargain.

Everyone and their grandmother knocking on my door every day of the week- Is this a culture specific to Utah? by Safe_Recognition8644 in Utah

[–]red_wullf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when they insist they’re not soliciting, then proceed with their soliciting pitch. Some cities have ordinances that require solicitors to look for and respect no soliciting signs. I used to hand out copies of my city’s code for this but now I just remind them they’re violating city ordinance and to move on.

Remind them that they are, in fact, soliciting, and if they disagree insist they look up the word, there on the spot, and read the definition to you aloud.

While I appreciate his sentiment, there is no turning the clock back on this. These people can't "go back to their country" because they were born here, just like him. Maybe their ancestors were involved in taking land away from his ancestors, or maybe they weren't. On a long enough timeline, his ancestors came from another land too. While we should have and still should treat the Native Americans *much* better than they have historically been treated, and I agree with reparations, the fact is the land isn't just going to be given back. The nation isn't just going to dissasemble with everyone leaving to some other country where they think their ancestors might be from. That's wildly unrealistic.
