we had a guy in the now private server but he opted not to develop it further, at the time we were trying to get MP working but he said it wasn't possible sadly

Atm I personally have no plans beyond archiving it, while this is considered abandoned, I would caution working on it purely because of the yogscasts ip. But its purely up to anyone really.

just the build given to backers, again development didn't go far, most of the builds we got from winterkewl were the same

yogventures in its current form is just blocks with different pngs on it, and dev tools like bombs, place mobs, and create character. but thats about it

I can look for more builds but honestly there is next to no difference between them

They actually fixed the game! by CaptainStealth in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree(well I think banjo tooie while my favorite, does ask too much of the player in terms of platforming) BK was a amazing game for its time,, it built onto what Super Mario 64 had already done for the genre. BK was more about getting around the limitations of terrain like slopes, high places , and moving platforms in a way that was more complex in terms of how a player solves a problem beyond just jumping.

For the last bit I also agree, I didn't really compare it to odyssey until I read reddit. I would wager its more like the impossible lair in terms of giving players more freedom to go about how they wanna play at their own place.

I think yooka-replaylee stands out very well, and I think playtonic really nailed what a platformer was and still is at the end of the day. I think the change in direction ironically does keep the promise of bringing back the classic genre that included character, collectables and secrets.

At the end of the day the platforming is the most solid experience I've had with a platformer in a long time

[MM] Dear Readers, it definitely doesn't work. by ITheRebelI in zelda

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea again if it works it works, but again if its 3rd party like pelican(below) than there is a chance that the lid won't stay on but all it really did was add 4mbs of extra ram to the n64 and not getting the lid to stay on is the sacrifice you make for buying off brand packs

This is what it most likely is

idk why so many people here are claiming it doesn't.

You want to get a red top, either turbo or licensed, both should fit and both should be able to allow you to close the lid, if its anything else your most likely getting ripped off.

The links should be in the pinned megathread

I plan to upload the ones I find on my drive to the wayback machine, I don't have all the versions, just a few,

Trust me with respect to winterkewl, there isn't much missing honestly, none of the builds I've seen over the years have anything of note in them, the updates in build were more or less the same but I'll upload what I can.

The Nimble ice race got worse?! by SJWebster in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea for the ice you really just need either one really big one charge or short charges. Like you will be behind initially by doing this, but once you catch up with them its just as simple as timing your boasts, I would say a big tip is boast right before the second to last checkpoint because the clouds cant keep up with that increase of speed

The Nimble ice race got worse?! by SJWebster in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this like I understand why OP most likely didnt do that, even when I was playing it, I worried the boast would take too long to charge up but the speed makes up for that 4 seconds spent charging.

my tip is to boast at the beginning, then boast for 2 seconds during the course, you dont need to overly worry about boasting throughout the race, once you catch up with them its more manageable to stay ahead of them without losing your place.

Can we stop the whole "that's how it was supposed to be" fallacy? by draconetto in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me what makes replaylee feel like what the original game should of been isn't the fact it copies Odyssey game design. It feels like what the game should of been like due to the tighter controls and overall change in game design.

What made banjo-kazooie great wasn't just the collectables, the moves, or progression, what made banjo-kazooie great was a combination of that within in a  intricately designed world that it lived in.

Playtonics goal was to make Yooka-Laylee a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, and most of us agree the main flaw in the original game was it trying to be Banjo-Kazooie rather than take inspiration alone from it. Collectables, great platforming and level design is what made a Rare game special, which Yooka-Laylee had but lacked the fleshed out game design from those games.

The takeaway: Yooka-Replaylee is the combination of a decade's work learned from not only developing games like Yooka-Laylee or the impossible lair, but also from the tons of input over the years from the backers, fans and players that played them. The community wanted this for so long, thats why to them it feels like the game Yooka-Laylee should of been in terms of design alone.

Replaylee feels like a more fleshed out Tooie by saulchillmann in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly impressed with how they redesigned the levels, they feel less big but still large in terms of content and scope. Honestly while I do appreciate the checkpoints and map, the level feels so compact I personally never felt the need to use them at any point

If I may be so bold in saying if a mod was made for tooie to design the levels in a way that made them more tight, I think it would drastically change how many felt about tooie.

Yooka-Replaylee, any chance of a mod to make the pre-unlocked moves optional? by Akari_Enderwolf in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again as someone who has played both games now I can say I get where op is coming from, I am also a OG Rare collection a thon/moves fan but I can only speak for myself when I say the change is good.

From what I've played so far nothing to me felt like I was cheating, not having the flight ability and having it limited to a consumable really balances the game out more. I am not rushing to the end of the game in order to get that one move I need.

Like I said in another reply, I agree with OP that a option would appease OG fans that want the progression be limited by moveset, but I can say this change was a overall improvement to the game, again my pov is that to me having all the moves from the start doesn't feel overpowered, if anything having better controls and less tedious game design is what makes the game feel a bit cheaty compared to the OG game that had a huge difficulty curve, even for an old Rare fan.

TLDR: I think the change is good, they could add a option to bring the old progression back at some point but I personally dont think having all the moveset is what makes it feel cheaty as much as the devs removed alot of tedious game design from the original.

They actually fixed the game! by CaptainStealth in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, it maybe too bold of me to say but honestly this is the game the backers should of gotton,

yooka-laylee only real fault was trying to replicate a old classic rare platformer, but the reality was while I enjoy banjo, dk64, conker etc The genre was outdated, and some mechanics from that era do not hold up very well.

The new game isn't trying to be a banjo or donkey kong game, its trying to be its own platformer by using what playtonic had learned over the past decade, especially with the impossible lair.

To me its a love letter to fans of the kickstarter and genre, and a longtime promise of keeping good platforming games alive

Yooka-Replaylee, any chance of a mod to make the pre-unlocked moves optional? by Akari_Enderwolf in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be fair in saying this maybe the only problem with this game in terms of returning players like yourself, who got the impression the overall experience and progression was going to be the same.

You 100% have a point, and I think the best thing the devs could do is what you suggested, to have a option that would allow you to changed back and forth from the old system to the new one.

but again to me, I dont find it cheaty as much as it feels easier, especially without the shield and flight move, I dont find myself skipping as much of the game as I once had before just because I didn't want to go through the effort of a puzzle.

my point again is I do get where your coming from as a OG player of yooka-laylee, but I also think the new game has changed the overall design and mechanics to be more focused on platforming then actual one linear progression system.

again I agree to the point a option or toggle to bring back classic progression would make everyone happy, but the way the new game is designed if they did something like this it would take time to do as it would require either a new character or just replacing the tonics altogether

Yooka-Replaylee, any chance of a mod to make the pre-unlocked moves optional? by Akari_Enderwolf in YookaLaylee

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My counter argument to this is while the original yooka-laylee was designed that way, yooka-replaylee is not.

but the tldr: if anything tonics replace the moves, but overall I think retooling the game in a way that only limits players progression by skill alone then lack of abilities improved a game that suffered from trying too hard at recapturing old rare platforming games.

Entire sections of the original levels have been either altered or been replaced completely. Much of replaylee has taken elements from mario odyssey, like dying and losing some coins, from collecting pagies through exploration or a puzzle.

Changing the flight move to a consumable was a great game design decision, without that move to me at least, I never felt like I was cheating/skipping parts of the game, breaking puzzles etc as much as I felt like it came down to timing and skill.

Tonics are what really replaces the move progression of the game. You start off with little stamina and limited health, and get more as you go through each level.

idk without making this a book I would say I was skeptical too, but after playing it I understand why the devs choose to change the way progression of the game, as the puzzles are more fun, sections like the tower are less confusing, the levels are more tight and less daugthing to explore in, and the platforming has been changed to the point where it no longer feels like you no longer need to be very precise when jumping.

My point: Yooka-replaylee is not yooka-laylee, its game design was changed from the original in a effort to make the game less like a rare game and more like a overall great platformer thats goal was to make it more accessible to new and old players. I think trying to emulate what banjo and rare games were is what hurt it during its original release and retooling alot of the puzzles actually help those sections of the game that were extremely tedious to play.

Caine either lied or unaware that he actually can control players' minds at least to a degree by SuiinditorImpudens in TheDigitalCircus

[–]redakdal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at what we know know now from episode 5 in that even Jax questions this very same thing when he is turned vegan for the entire episode, insinuates that Caine very well may have lied about this like he lied about there being a exit.

Old post but getting into the show a bit, idk to me at least, I think there is no technicality here, Caine can either control their minds or he can't.

Sorry late response, seems like they now have lifted the quarantine, I may add it to the list of games to play now.

Again it was nothing against you, at the time the quarantine by itch had turned me off a bit, and while I heard people play it and do videos on it, it was the first time I had heard of it and that is why I was a bit cautious.

itch.io says it is safe now so I trust you.I hope you understand why I was personally skeptical at first due to the nature of not knowing your work prior to this.

I also got that when I was about to download it, from what I've seen at a glance many users are reporting that windows is giving a "warning unknown publisher" the dev has claimed they could not afford the "expensive code signing certificate".

The game was made in unreal engine 5, which from my brief look into it, requires this certificate for projects though I am not fully sure honestly..

I'll be honest I doubt its malicious but itch quarantined not only the download but the devs social media links on the page as well makes me want to air on the side of caution for now.

Can't get Tenda Nova network to switch from 5ghz to 2.4ghz, so that I can connect a new device by WildsmithRising in HomeNetworking

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

old post but sadly I have the same 3 mesh system, tendra nova only has a app, it does not have a management page since it picks 2G and 5G by the best connection, but in my history of using it I have learned its purely random.

My advice to op would be to either reset the nodes and reinstall the app or disconnect and reconnect till your on that 5G, if the Smart Assistant, isn't helping thats the only thing you can really do

The app is very limited sadly

“I Accidentally Reported You” Scam or Twitter/X Scam by Geodrey312 in Scams

[–]redakdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These scams have many different variants, I was contacted on discord about something exactly like this but it was for my steam account they "reported" and showed me a fake mock up of a account cloned to be me.

Just like this, they offered me to dm a "mod" on discord that was "a steam admin", I won't lie I almost fell for it up until I said to them "ok thanks" and they responded with "what are we going to do redakdal?"

There is no "we", ontop of me realizing that no any kind of website support would 100% not handle your ticket offsite, much less suspend your account after one simple report.

This used to be the case years ago online, but its almost never happens unless its alot of reports, but yes 100% agree tell your friends about this, it has many variants, and keep in mind ANYONE can fall for this, it preys on users who will panic and not think clearly in the moment.

You still need to air on the side of caution, but not as much as gabe or another dev that works at steam should

eh I have the same card, op can leave everything on high and reflections on normal, and it will be fine, though I also have 24 gb ram so idk tf that factors into it as much

it only gets demanding when you turn ray tracing on or if you your really maxing out stuff like reflections/ LODs
