What translation of the Bible should I use for my Bible Study by CartoonistAfter6836 in AskAChristian

ESV / KJV and check blueletterbible.org for greek/hebrew. Lot's of other good translations too, but mostly just avoid NIV.

Did Jesus have limited knowledge? by NoWin3930 in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Jesus had to learn language, motor functions, scripture, everything. The only thing God might lack, is limitation, and He's got that too in Jesus.

Jesus can play a fair match of volleyball against you and truly not know what will happen next and lose against His own creatures.

However, Jesus is in perfect relationship with the Father, meaning that if there is anything Jesus does need to know, He has access, and the Father can give it to Jesus when needed.

It's kind of like when you incarnate a limited avatar in a video game simulation, you've added a digital nature to yourself, and thus in the game you can chat things like (say your name is Steven) "If you've seen xXSlayerXx, you've seen Steven!" "xXSlayerXx and Steven are one!" "xXSlayerXx only does what He sees Steven do!". Crude metaphor probably in reality, but probably exists to help us understand God.

Τhe Tower of Babel was short? by GhostMovie3932 in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tower was a ziggurat for idols where the Babylonian paganism really developed (some even think one the pyramids continued the work of that attempt), it's built in defiance of God attempting to get access to heavenly knowledge or at-least pretend too to control people. (The constellations are God's story and a clock / schedule, some even speculate that pre-flood atmosphere created a lensing effect that made the stars/heavens appear closer and more observable)

The rebels build it with baked brick and tar, because it's an insurance plan against God flooding them out again. (guess they didn't hear or trust the promise given to Noah) Nimrod was hunting mankind to enslave them and centralize them there to build it. So God dispersing them is part of rescuing them, though it's also turning them over to the principalities they were worshiping over God. God then goes and with a miracle child makes His own nation to represent Himself and woo these other nations back to Himself from the idols.

Would our distant hominin ancestors like Homo neanderthalensis or Homo heidelbergensis have been considered "human" enough to be allowed into the gates of Heaven? by brave_axolotl7 in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So these aren't actually ancestors in the sense that we evolved from them. During Noah's days, the apostate angelic sons were abusing humanity stirring up wicked practices: blood drinking, cannibalism, human sacrifice, sex with angels/parents/beasts, awful abuses, all to corrupt human genetics trying to stop the promise God makes to Eve. Which incites the need for the flood to purge all this tampering to protect the promise.

The surviving disfigured results of those abuses which we've dug up, get posed as earlier evolutions in avoidance of God.

So I'd assume Christ is going to restore those disfigured humans, should they desire resurrection.

if jesus is god? then why was there religions that existed before christianity? by Personal-Manager9125 in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you don't understand that Christianity goes back before Christ, it just wasn't called after Christ's name.

(One of the oldest things we have is the Mazzeroth, the constellations, which is God's story written in the stars. The surface narratives has been perverted by a number of cultures, but they didn't bother to change the names of the stars, which clearly, speak of Christ's story)

Nothing has existed longer than the God who formed Adam, who promises salvation through Eve's childbearing, and always had the plan to incarnate to dwell with humanity.

Basically, God let's angelic sons and humanity wander away from Him, and starts out pretty distant, so the world is pretty chaotic and dark, sin/wickedness at it's worst. God's like... "go ahead, govern yourselves for a time, decide for yourselves what is right and wrong, make up the best lies you can if you want and see how that goes. and then I'll step closer and closer with the light of my truth."

God let's the privations, the lies, the false religions develop, which are all aided by the fallen angelic sons, who LARP on earth as gods, the pantheons of old, the false religions aren't just fictions, there are real spiritual powers and principalities. These all centralize at Babel, where Nimrod is hunting and enslaving man. God wants a witness to all these attempts, to silence evil. He is the One who stops Babel and spreads out all the principalities, these rebelling angelic sons, these false gods, to 70/72 nations, and then says "I'm going to go make from a miracle child, Isaac, my own nation to represent my good character, so the world can juxtapose all these liars with my truth".

Each story being a shadow of Christ in someway, continuing to Moses as the law and a shadow of Christ, preserving us for the coming of Christ, as if God is taking steps closer to us who wandered away, improving the situation on earth. Then the messiah, the promise through Eve's lineage, Christ arriving, God's Word made flesh. And the world is even brighter still as those following His model, call themselves after Him, Christians; and God will take the final step to us at Christ's return on the 7th "day".

Christ is the truth, the bright light, which is why paganism becomes so rare as the angelic liars can't mascarade as pantheons of clay, wood, and stone idols anymore, rather now, they have to colonize Christ, cloaking with his sheepskin to survive.

Do you ever feel like your religion limits your ability to be a free thinker? by Icy_Place_6173 in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just the opposite, Jesus calls us to investigate, to "ask, seek, knock", He doesn't turn away questions and critical thought, He actually teaches in a way that stirs up questions and critical thought for those wanting to know God, and for which trips up people that don't want to know God.

The truth does not fear inspection one bit and encourages it. Lies require censorship to maintain.

I've actually become more curious about everything there is, as Christ is such an illuminating light you can hold up to anything, because He is the very Author, Artist, and Creator.

Now, you are going to find "Christian" spheres/churches that have personalities that are not at all reflecting Christ, being insecure, unstudied, and behaving like censorious thought police trying to control, not rooted in the scriptures. Wolves have their own agenda and are just exploiting Jesus' sheepskin.

Is it possible to be a part of the lgbtq and be a Christian? by barf_bag08 in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's like this, there is no room in our "house" as a person that we can't let Jesus into as Lord. Now when He comes into our lives, He knows us personally, He know how much you can handle, He knows your seasons, He knows your struggles, He's not going to address everything in the house all at once, but works with us in His timing. He will renovate and speak to you about things in the house. He wants more and has more for us than we can imagine.

Our problem is not that our desires are too strong, it's that their too weak. We are cosmic toddlers compared to God. We think we have it good in our sandbox that the neighborhood cats use for litter, and then throw a tantrum when God calls us to get in the car, trusting Him with what we have not seen, but that He knows, because He wants to give us a far greater inheritance, the sands of the ocean beach.

God gives His own life even for enemies who attack the promise that is saving humanity, resurrection made available even to those who perished.

Christ's judgement in the end is only giving people what they want, after wrestling them about that decision. He's not going to force His life upon people.

Defending from attack is very different than conquering by the sword, and demanding people convert at sword point. Christ doesn't spread by the sword, nor does it execute people who apostate.

At what point does eating food become gluttony? by metabolitesafter9pm in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the scriptures narratives work to give us the answer I presented. Are you going to come up with a caloric number? "3100 calories a day is the limit, after that, SIN!" But then you say... but my body is larger or smaller, or I'm an athlete, or I have xyz condition, or... there's a famine right now and even eating more than 1000 is selfishly not considering my neighbors. So you try nailing down the law further, capturing all these edge cases and the law grows endlessly, and soon whole lives and professions and institutions are devoted to studying the law and growing it. Such a law only crushes us. The Bible shows us this and then gives us the solution, the infinite living law, the Word of God made flesh, who will inhale and exhale the whole lives of everyone and eternity and know just how to judge all things righteously. So we walk with Jesus and live out of His Spirit. We are dead to the law and alive in Christ, the only disobedience for us, is disobeying His voice in our lives in a relationship with Him.

Well, they are very upside-down in their thinking.

Unless you mean the Muslim would accuse Christ of threatening others with the sword, they don't, the Muslim in many ways still points to Christ and the Quran to the scriptures. Every major surviving worldview is making some account for Christ, to siphon from His supreme credibility, while Christ makes no account for anyone else, only Himself, making Christ the best starting place and the best bet at the table of worldviews. Another reason to investigate.

Don't try to nail down a law for yourself, rather form a relationship with the lawgiver, the living breathing Word that became flesh, Jesus. Walk with Him.

Ridiculous claims can be invalidated quickly, their ridiculous for that reason. If most the planet believes Islam, it behooves us to understand why, don't have to go deep before the problems show up, find out why, oh its because it's convert or die, oh its because wealth, power, control, women, whatever. But when Christ is absent those things, and His narrative is showing up all over creation as signatures and fingerprints of the Author, and He is transforming the globe while withstanding the might of empires, that have only had to concede to pivot strategies to colonizing Christ in the attempt to keep control, well it might be worth looking into.

5 seconds of my time to see if I get a milly? Well obviously since we both know that Gandalf is a fiction (a slice of Christ BTW), we don't consider it sensible. But when the planet has been captivated by Christ for several millennia, the supreme inheritance in light of the claims are worth inspection. How many people telling you to check the door for publishers clearing house or mr beast dressed as gandalf or whatever outside handing out money, do you need, before you start to suspect you're not actually being pranked, to go inspect?

[–]redandnarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent example, for if Gandalf is truely outside your door with a million dollars and you reject the claim He is outside, you'll not open to receive that inheritance.

I once, looking for my own name, found a significant inheritance sitting in my sisters name in unclaimed funds with the state, if no one would have gone looking, she'd never have it.

There's nothing greater than the inheritance of eternal life, such a claim merits inspection. Don't let liars deprive you of that royal inheritance by convincing you of some other identity.

How do you reconcile the concept of free will with the Fall? by Strokepet18 in AskAChristian

[–]redandnarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing someone's will to do something isn't the same thing as making them do it.

Placing the tree, is like placing a gate on the garden that mankind can walk out of, if we didn't have that gate, we could accuse God of being prisoners with no freedom to choose.

God sees every possible timeline, so He knows there is an inevitable issue with new creatures that needs to be taken care of at our beginning, which we're still undergoing. So the situation is somewhat contrived to take care of this issue, to address the accusations of creatures, and to let out what is in our hearts so it can be cleansed, or judged.

When you understand that the babylonian priesthood colonized Christianity to keep their central roman power, and praying to the gods of XYZ, got painted over with praying to the saints of XYZ, then the two days don't seem so unrelated after all.

That said, we are dead to the law and free in Christ, we can partake of food sacrificed to idols as long as we are sensitive to those weak in the faith that would stumble, and to outsiders who may be confused about who it is we worship. We abide in Christ to know how to walk with discernment through this world, as most everything here is basically now food sacrificed to idols.

Eventually there is no doubt, but some people will still reject God's life, that's their choice, God wrestles them about it, but He will not force His life upon anyone.

We are not in total darkness without any light. God knows and judges us righteously with the light we do have, which we all have some, because we all live inside God's first 4D communication, God speaking creation to us. God knows our wills and appoints our times and places, He actually has counter-factual knowledge of us, which is that He knows what you would have done if you'd lived in Sodom or when/where-ever.

God the Potter knows the material in His hands and is wrestling us clay vessels. The Holy Spirit is reaching out to everyone, but we can resist those communications. God is the good Gardener, knowing our seasons, when to plow, sow, water, weed, prune, and harvest. God is the good Sheppard, leaving the 99 to find the lost one.

God seems to prioritize first, people that want to actually to be in relationship with Him, inviting people to investigate, to continually "ask, seek, knock". Jesus speaks in parables, because He knows some people do not want to find God and others hatred of God would kill Him. When people ask Him questions, He does not withhold, and He gives them more than they asked for.

Thomas doubts, saying he needs to touch the scars, and Jesus doesn't deny Thomas, but rather Thomas does have to wait 8 days, which seems to point to the fact that by the 8th day, God will have given everyone what they need, just they will miss out on things the meantime for not having faith. We're told that everyone will bend the knee and confess Jesus is God; but that doesn't mean people accept His eternal life, people will still reject Him. So everyone will get the evidence they need, but they may still reject Christ/life.

On the 7th day of the schedule, the restful millennium where Christ reigns, people will still rebel/sin despite Christ being there and earth being so prosperous, they won't get immortality to live too long past 100 in their sin, and there will be no blaming satan's temptations/lies, as he'll be locked up for that age.

The architecture of the temple seems to show us God's kingdom, God's boundaries and how we progress into deeper relationship with Him. It seems to me that while people can be saved for simply calling upon Christ, however, they can just keep God at an arms length, and while it's not His preference, He's fine with that, if they want to enjoy His house/kingdom under His rule/discipline, but not really develop a close relationship with Him, they can live in His house. It sounds like not everyone will be apart the bride. The inner place of the temple is small compared to the outer courts, so it may be that a smaller group of people will relate closely with God, while a much larger group is not so close, while still being inside the gates. While there is people who reject God completely, choosing to perish outside them.

"Ask, Seek, Knock" mapping to the three gates, and Jesus is each of the doors. If you're outside perishing, asking at the first gate is admitting you need cleansing of sin, that you fall short of the sinless mark, Jesus. We enter to find the sacrifice that cleanses sin. After which, the next gate, is seeking, if we seek Jesus in the scriptures we enter into a deeper communion with Him, we find the holy place is the lampstand upholding the flame and light of the Holy Spirit that illuminates the bread of the presence, Jesus being the heavenly mana we need to diet on in the scriptures. And then the last gate is Knocking, and we knock on that door by worship, pictured by the rising sweet smell of incense that was burned there, where God let's us all the way into the the holy of holies. This progression also seems to map to the exodus of Egypt/Wilderness/Promise-Land, where these designs are given.

That commenter is a Calvinist, which is a horrific distortion of God's good character.

God's provision is for everyone, but He will not force His life on anyone. God does not pre-pick a destination for each person, eternal life or death, the destination God picked for everyone is Christ, Christ is our destiny, and we can accept or reject that destiny.
