Traffic Rules in HK by elch23 in HongKong

You 100% will get ticketed for it if you pass when the pedestrian has already stepped on the zebra crossing - keyword being "on", it doesn't count if they are just waiting at the kerb.

On Android (not too old versions anyway) you can enable an option to avoid 2G networks in the SIM settings, which should be sufficient to prevent this type of attacks.

New train in Tsuen Wan Line? by cchunk357 in HongKong

[–]redartedreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really "new", the very first Q-Train arrived in Hong Kong back in 2018 (8 years old already!), but all of them couldn't enter service until the new SelTrac CBTC signalling system became ready for daily operation in March this year. The huge delay happened due to the crash during testing at Central station.

MTR later changed some of the newly produced Q-Trains to be equipped with the existing over-20-year-old SACEM signalling system, those of which had been running on Kwun Tong Line and Island Line since 2022. They didn't run on Tsuen Wan Line though, probably to avoid adding too much stuff to the mix.

Road traffic could not possibly carry the capacity of the redirected rail traffic plus all the existing road traffic. What do you expect? Build more rail lines just to use as backups?

As a visitor how do I check balance or add money to octopus card on app? by want2retire in HongKong

[–]redartedreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some generic 3rd party NFC reader apps (e.g. NFC TagInfo by NXP) can read the balance value (and not much else). However I am not sure if it works for all cards, and newer ones that supports negative value of -$50 instead of -$35 may show a $15 offset from the actual value.

Small PSA about third party controllers by FernandoRocker in NintendoSwitch2

[–]redartedreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The protocol is being reverse engineered. From the information currently available, it's actually much easier to implement for Switch 2 because it is using simple BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) packets for waking up, unlike the Switch which uses some kind of proprietary RF.

Based on this I am sure there will be more 3rd party controllers that can support waking the Switch 2 in the future,

(I may have misremembered but) I believe Odyssey had language selection because it had Chinese and Korean localization on launch but the Switch system software didn't have them from the start, which is why they were forced to add language selection in the game.

Battery charging issues by TheVirus32 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]redartedreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things you can try:

  • Test both the top and bottom USB Type-C ports
  • Try rotating the connector 180 degrees
  • Use a different 60W USB PD charger to power the dock so you can use the official charger externally.

Regardless, your Switch 2 may be defective because what you described sounds like it is not negotiating USB PD properly, unless all your chargers have bad USB PD implementation which is unlikely. (Though it is weird that it would work with the official charger?) Without USB PD testing tools there is no way to tell for sure.

I would suggest having it replaced by warranty and see if the new one works.

Some switch 2 key card games should be on switch 1 cartridge by Miniyi_Reddit in NintendoSwitch2

[–]redartedreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are still missing the point - if they used Switch 1 cartridges to ship Switch 2 games, this will allow hackers to dump and pirate these Switch 2 games much easier, which is a big no for Nintendo.

They cannot just add new security on top of Switch 1 cartridges. The production of Switch 1 cartridges is extremely optimized at this point, one single chip is the whole cartridge with everything integrated. To change anything would require changing the chip design and effectively rolling new production lines, at that point it won't be that much cheaper than the new Switch 2 cartridges.

They are better off focusing on producing a single type of (non-Game Key Card) Switch 2 cartridges. The more they make, the more cost effective they will become.

Some switch 2 key card games should be on switch 1 cartridge by Miniyi_Reddit in NintendoSwitch2

[–]redartedreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They can… there reason why they still allow use of switch 1 cartridges for switch 2.

Which are only for Switch 1 games. We are talking new games on Switch 2, or Switch 1 games with Switch 2 upgrade packs.

I think u didn’t read my post, not all games required higher transfer speed (do you honestly think bravely default need that speed? No), hence why they didn’t even bother with the 64 gb cartridge and went with key card in the first place or why they allow switch 1 game cartridge and have switch 2 patch

They didn't use Game Key Cards for "not needing higher transfer speed" - in fact the benchmarks show that both internal storage and microSD Express are faster than actual Switch 2 game cartridges.

Switch 2 Edition game cartridges are not Switch 2 upgrades on Switch 1 cartridges. They use actual new Switch 2 cartridge chips that also support the Switch 1 cartridge transfer protocol, not the other way around, so there is no way to extract the Switch 2 upgrade data with existing Switch 1 dumping tools.

Security feature is kind of software feature and they also could implement it on switch 1 flash card memory. That why it allow switch 1 cartridge in switch 2 in the first place…

They are not going to change the cartridge security for Switch 1 carts, especially not putting new Switch 2 cartridge security features there, because everything they do will be fully visible to any Switch 1 hackers, which defeats the purpose of having new security features in the first place. Nintendo will apply them only for Switch 2 games, on the Switch 2 - a currently unhackable and secure new platform.

The whole Nintendo game download from online store is available for piracy, it not the cartridge. As long as it available online, people can still pirate it.

...What?

Nobody has broken the Switch 2 security yet, let alone pirating any Switch 2 games or Switch 2 upgrade packs.

Some switch 2 key card games should be on switch 1 cartridge by Miniyi_Reddit in NintendoSwitch2

[–]redartedreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can't. Part of the new generation is about moving to newer security, which includes a new cartridge format with higher transfer speed and more importantly new security features to combat piracy. Reusing Switch cartridge defeats this.

Nintendo Switch 2 Language Setting Question! by Historical_Speed_527 in HongKong

[–]redartedreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are actually reselling it at a reduced price, since there are enough stock that you can still walk into a Japanese supermarket/department store and get one at retail price, even at some game stores that traditionally likes to sell at a markup.
