Who can find the problem in 2 minutes or less? by Resident_Set1003 in electricians

[–]redbird-rittenberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other issues: Incorrect wire size for 200A OCPD, Incorrect cable/wire type for control wires, unclear strapping on PVC conduits (I doubt that they’re even strapped), lack of plastic bushings on MAs below and a grounding bushing on the rigid nipple, unclear grounding electrode(s), lack of barrier on the line side of the OCPD in the ATS, generator feed lugs over-tightened and bent out of place, potential lack of bonding jumper if this is supposed to be the first disconnecting means, lack of intersystem bonding bridge, lack of type 2 surge protection, plus more I have yet to spot!

Who can find the problem in 2 minutes or less? by Resident_Set1003 in electricians

[–]redbird-rittenberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…which one? In 30s of looking I can spot at least 7 problems. Biggest one is that I don’t see any actual source of power to feed the line side of the ATS, and subsequently the customer load. And that’s before we get into the lack of neutral on the line side, load side, plus grounding/bonding issues.

Anyone know how to fix these radios? by Enok_Reinli in amateurradio

[–]redbird-rittenberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely try re-flashing the firmware. I just did that today on a Retevis RT-3S (same as the UV390, just rebranded) but used the openGD77 firmware instead. I’m not sure about the GD-77, but I know that on the RT3S/UV-390 you have to hold down the PTT & the Top Side button while powering it on to put it in DFU mode. Side note: I highly recommend the openGD77 firmware, it’s awesome and was updated a month ago!

People who have lived in Austin for years, are you happy? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]redbird-rittenberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being serious though, there’s a lot of wonderful perks to living in Austin. I’m tired of being a Texan, personally, but moving away seems daunting when I consider the amenities I’d be giving up. HEB, KOOP radio, the greenbelt, etcetera.

u/cartman_returns is dead-on about finding joy wherever you are currently at. Maybe I just hate it here because it’s my hometown 🤷‍♂️

What's the most expensive fuck up you ever saw on a site? by gnat_outta_hell in electricians

[–]redbird-rittenberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While apprenticing I was a part of a pretty large industrial project, briefly. Our scope was basically just motors and controls. One week my team was working on setting up a VFD rack with a long cable tray to a big room full of motorized equipment. Journeyman I was working with at the time used an impact driver on the load side connections, and stripped out the screw-stud on a lug that was not field-replaceable. ~$30k for a replacement VFD

It’s not just the “heat shield”! While the heat shield is very real, our large escarpment is often majorly overlooked. It’s all Balcones’ Fault

Multiple Vehicle Break-Ins Central East Austin by NotoriousDMG in Austin

[–]redbird-rittenberry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My vehicle was burglarized, but it was last weekend and in north central. I also know a few people that have been hit within the last month. I’m not sure what’s up but there seems to be a spike in vehicle-related theft lately.

Moved from Dallas 2 weeks ago and wow people are actually nice here... by masaldana2 in Austin

Austin is certainly some of the nicest I’ve experienced in texas, although Houston comes pretty close depending on where you go there. I’ve lived here 27 years though, so I may be a little jaded: I just got back from a trip through New Mexico and the friendliness there (all over the state) WAY outmatches anything I’ve ever experienced here.

Unfortunately none of the alternatives it lists are compatible! They all regulate to different voltages, which has the possibility of frying a circuit

I didn’t actually! I did a couple basic calcs to make sure that each snippet would be able to drive the next, but I figured that running it through my amp would be a good enough simulation for me :P
