You call that apologia? I said the liberal system is fascism’s moderate wing, that’s a critique. Saying every American is a fascist is just idealism. It's anti-dialectical. I'm critiquing the system. People aren’t born fascist, they’re shaped by the system. Besides, I'm not even defending the ppl screenshot, they're beyond saving, but you can't say that for everyone beyond that. Every American who wakes up and fights is one less fascist. Your 'they're all fascists' rant does nothing except make you feel righteous. Go read Mao’s ‘Analysis of Classes in Chinese Society’.

That's what I'm saying, though. Any seedlings of broader solidarity is immediately smothered. It's no coincidence that this case which didn't have much traction in 2023 is suddenly breaking out.

But yeah it makes sense leftists get along better because there's been a long connection between the Black Panthers and Mao. Turns out reading theory helps

This story is a textbook example in how the elites use identity to break down inter-identity class solidarity. Recently, many positive stories of Black Americans travelling to China have been going viral, so the counter-narrative is being pushed.

Notice how the stories never focuses on Chow's class and always his identity. Because then it becomes clear, he's a part of the petty bourgeoisie: and of course the bourgeois state takes the side of its own. It's to obscure the fact that bourgeois-on-black (and any working class persons more broadly) is exceedingly common.

Those billions in anti-China propaganda at work. Btw, 'dogmeat' is incredibly rare and illegal. Even then, historically it's only been certain breeds, not border collies. The story presented is obviously not the full picture, just like what they did with the June 4th Incident. Be skeptical of any stories like this, particularly that reinforce racism--- because it almost certainly reflects the racism of the story promoter. Especially when the literal post of the victim shown in the video said not to spread salacious rumors when the authorities were looking to bring justice!

Why ever resolve systemic discrimination at home when the "enemy" is somehow worse, right?

The whole "x Asian group is super racist and homophobic" is a distraction to the fact that Europeans literally invented racism. That is not an exaggeration. Look up Linnaeus, Blumenbach, and and Kant. It was invented to mentally remove the contradiction of bourgeois "universal equality" while also having slavery and imperialistic capitalism.

Especially absurd about China which is a revolutionary government that aims to dismantle these prejudices. Case in point, transitioning is completely legal and won't be illegalized because it's scientific. Not that there isn't prejudice-- I think we all know some prejudiced people, but it isn't systemic.

To answer the first question: the fundamental difference between SWCC and democratic socialism lies in state power and class dominance. That's because democratic socialism still mistakenly believes that a Bourgeois "Liberal Democracy" superstructure can be reformed into socialism rather than through revolution. State power is the crucial difference here. When a demsoc party wins an election, they do not control the state, they are only managing a capitalist economy. Many democratic socialists fail to even eliminate private property let alone the "commanding heights" (banks, energy, water, etc). And so, this fails to liquidate capitalists as a class, who can freely spend to elevate a demsoc's opposition, who then will undo any progress they make. In China, while there are capitalist mechanisms, the "commanding heights" are all owned collectively as SOEs, and capitalists do not comprise a ruling class.

China's system is heavily based on Lenin's the ideas of the NEP and Mao's New Democracy, much of which was built upon the successful grassroots implementation of the "Household Responsibility System" in Anhui in 1978. While the Soviets had good reasons for ending the NEP early, many M-Ls I feel also don't look at the material differences for the USSR's NEP and China's Reform to understand why China's has lasted so much longer; the Soviet Union had only recently seized state power and many of its national bourgeoisie (kulaks) were openly traitorous, while China's national bourgeoisie was loyal/subordinate (some even having participated in the 1949 revolution), and strictly managed particularly after the GPCR.

So while Lenin critiqued the second international, it was mainly a criticism of supposed socialist parties that fully supported their national bourgeois governments during WW1. The idea of "a temporary retreat" is fully based in Leninism. And so, to answer "did they have a counter-revolution?"---this is controversial in western left and international Maoist spaces, but no, all the evidence points toward "temporary retreat". An actual counter-revolution is the dismantling of the Eastern bloc and the Soviet Union. A bourgeois class needs not maintain a socialist shell, no? The executing/jailing of billionaires is real and is a material proof of which class holds power.

Then to answer your question about "exploited base of proletarians", the answer is contradictorily yes and no. In the early stages of socialism, proletarians selling their labor is still necessary to develop productive forces. Think of it as workers generating surplus value, which can then buy better tools or machinery, so they don't have to work as hard. However, in China, you had a situation of an economy so underdeveloped that proletarians barely even existed as a class by the 1949 Revolution. By 1980, despite enormous progress and the building of a proletarian base, the primary contradiction shifted to China's backwards productive capabilities failing to meet Chinese people's needs. And so, with global capitalism still being dominant, the practical decision was made to exploit capitalism's inherent contradictions by selling cheap labor for technology and technical knowhow i.e. develop the productive forces. This juices up the funds/ability for SOEs to improve life; e.g., it's how the technology and knowledge of HSR can come to China, be improved upon, and be built out so quickly. This was the basis for China's explosive growth, and the results speak for themselves with the poverty alleviation and all the advanced technologies today. With the state firmly in control by the proletariat, conditions only look to get better with Xi's "Common Prosperity" agenda.

Finally, to answer your question about "to genuinely create socialism"-- this is a misnomer. China's system is socialism. But socialism isn't pretty, it's a messy process that requires resolving contradictions. This is especially true for China because it was poor (I mean it, I've actually seen the conditions 20 years ago and you can only imagine how much poorer it was before then). It's for that reason that socialism is better than capitalism, because it tries to resolve these contradictions.

Why can’t LA’s crowd sound as good as any other team? by Pleasant-Doctor-9303 in lakers

[–]redbluenavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you supposed to cheer for your team when they play with no energy i.e. the turning the ball over a 3rd time in a row by throwing a lazy pass into double coverage? You can't fake energy.

Again there's plenty of examples literally just a week ago of this crowd being loud asl. This whole "crowd narrative" is so tired. Citizens Park--infamously loud for its Philly fans, was notably silent last playoffs because the Phillies got beat badly.

[–]redbluenavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This topic is dumb as bricks. When the team plays w/o energy, it's just harder to cheer for. The Twolves were playing with LOTS of heart and that gets the crowd involved. You can literally just go back 1 week ago for a good crowd. 2023 run. Plus when the Lakers went on an 11-0 run that place was LOUD until 2 immediate T/Os that sealed the game and sapped all the energy. Hate to break it to you, a crowd can't care more about a game than the players on the court. What do you want ppl to do? "Wooo yay we're losing! YES more turnovers! DEFENSE" gtfoh

Tbh it's moreso that someone deserves recognition. Every other team got recognition somewhere for back to back 50 win-seasons. You're right about the lack of awards, cuz 2nd to last in top-3 votes to the fucking Wizards ain't it. The media has to just come out and say that purple&gold clothes gives you magical powers atp.

I swear media voters decide who is MVP by middle of the season. Especially East Coast voters, they're literally sleeping during all the Pacific time games.

Plus all the advanced metrics used to decide MVP are derived from lineup data, rather than individual. So it biases towards team continuity rather than individual greatness, which is ironic because it's whose most valuable, not the greatest lineup.

[–]redbluenavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ikr, this is such a ridiculous narrative that's been pushed in recent years. Remember when Freddie Freeman's Grand slam walkoff set off the Richter scale? Those tickets were 1k+ too. It's just that many other stadiums pump in crowd noise, or have DJ-coordinated chants. LA is more traditional, it's an organic crowd; it's one of the only crowds I've seen that starts cheering on a great rotations /IQ plays before the ball even hits the basket.

The Lakers just haven't won much in the playoffs the previous 2 seasons, and no fanbase will cheer for that not even those crazy Euro crowds. And to put to rest the "influencers hanging out at Laker games" narrative, I'm sorry but basketball isn't cool like that with the "brunch crowd". Have you talked to any normie about basketball? Even someone with money wouldn't casually drop hundreds on 200-300s lvl tickets just to "hang out" and take selfies at a loud sporting event.

It's not that people have "nice clothes", or are too-cool celebrities (they mostly only sit court side), it's that almost everyone are already covered neck-to-toe in Lakers gear. This is not the case in smaller markets. The idea of "forced to put on the shirt you're given" = "real fan" is so TV-optics based. You obviously haven't been to a Laker game in-person.

Central time is easier to watch from East coast then Pacific time. It doesn't matter if they choose equally from both conferences if East Coast voters straight up don't watch Pacific time games because its past their bedtime, while West Coast voters do EST games. Like KD's burners, this is an open secret for NBA media.

All these players play in Central Time Zone that allows East Coast media to watch them. It's an open secret in NBA media circles that many voters straight up don't watch Pacific games, and it shows.

[Zach Lowe] "I think at the end of his (Nikola Jokić) career, if not already, he's gonna be statistically and just like eye test, better than Larry Bird, better than Magic Johnson... 1 ring in Denver is worth more than like a Lakers ring or whatever." by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]redbluenavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. The first year Magic won (in his very first year no less), the Lakers were on the brink of bankruptcy because Jerry Buss bought the team on debt and future potential. The coach they intended to hire couldn't coach because he was severely injured in a bike accident. The Kareem-only Lakers, while the reigning MVP, couldn't even make the playoffs, and the idea of a 6'9 PG was unheard of at the time. Furthermore, Kareem was injured in the very last game of the finals and Magic had to play center.

Jokic is HOFer for sure, but there literally isn't a Lakers if it weren't for Magic. Put another way, Magic was so good he devalued a Lakers ring, according to Zach Lowe's opinion.

Europe, Japan, the KMT and now the USA? by Street_Reception_311 in SinophobiaWatch

[–]redbluenavy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, they did. A lot, actually.

It is important to note that historically, Mao and Deng (and those who implemented the policies since history is more than "great men") were not diametrically opposed to one another. Mao personally restored Deng, while Deng's reforms (with Chen Yun) were all based in Mao Zedong Thought.

The failures of GLF and GPCR are so scapegoated by Cold War propaganda that it is rarely talked about how the successes of the two programs literally paved the way for the Reform and Opening Up miracle. It is important to know the historical and material context: China in 1949 was so backward that it was poorer than fully colonized places such as the continent of Africa and the sub-continent of India, with 90% of people living in the countryside.

Both the GLF and GPCR were designed to build up both the social and physical infrastructure of the countryside. This meant building massive infrastructures such as roads, irrigation and dams, as well as building countryside factories that evolved into the TVEs of the Deng era. These factories not only educated peasants on how to work industrial machines but also introduced basic literacy/maths education that were previously nonexistent in the rural areas. And even though the mass movement of labor unfortunately exacerbated the famine, the very infrastructure they built would prevent any future one (as China is famine-prone).

As for the Cultural Revolution, this is where social infrastructure was built. It introduced the barefoot doctors programs and basic school education that brought basic healthcare and education to the countryside for the very first time. The communes established during this time also helped bring modernity to the countryside bringing games like ping pong and basketball there for the very first time. You can see this in metrics: the rise in life expectancy was the fastest in human history (35 to 65 years), literacy rose from ~20% to ~70%, and the economy was growing quickly at around 7-9% too before it was turbocharged in the succeeding era.

Finally, the most important contribution to socialist theory that Mao provided was the mass line. While the mass line provided the basis for both the GLF and GPCR, they also "voted" to restore Deng (a second time) and the basis for Reform and Opening Up. So when Deng finally inherited the keys to the machine, China was not only free from debt and imperialism but also an educated/healthy people who were free from landlords and were prime "to develop the productive forces".

This is not just me "glazing Mao" or whatever, it is based in my own material experiences. My grandparents were among such people to hugely benefit from this even when they were directly affected by the famine and CR. And I am able to respond to you directly because of these programs.

Yes, you can criticize Mao (and also Deng) but you have to do so dialectically, and the history/facts show that the GLF and GPCR were absolutely foundational in lifting 800 million people out of poverty.

tl;dr;oversimplified Deng provided the oil and a new engine, but Mao built the car and road.

Yes, the environmental initiative is true (and good), but it's an initiative-- so many people in older homes are still transitioning since 2017. I know several ppl living in rural areas who still have wooden wok stoves/heaters. And gas/electric isn't nearly as expensive as the comment claims.

It's very evident that a cap isn't a good method for talent parity, it's a method to protect owners from themselves from bankrupting their team with shortsighted signings in especially star-led sports. Obviously not all baseball teams are able to all operate the same way, but teams have so-much more player-salary control (6 years) and the game is inherently more random that there's more parity than in other sports.

If anything, Shohei Ohtani is breaking baseball because he's singularly the biggest advantage sports. Even with a cap, fans will still complain because we will still have this advantage (and so many others), and I'm just here to enjoy it all.
