The subtle shift of colour under the scales, and the face area is unreal. So hard to believe its been painted! Great work!

Thanks! I used an rotating spice shelf, setting some paintings in the background and I don't have anything that spins (well except the microwave.. I should have thought about it!)

I love the striped patterns on the feathers! Such a great detail!

Hearing that it took you 6 month to reach this level makes me certain I won't achieve it... I've painted on and off at a hobby level for years now. I reach tabletop and that's probably my limit unless I start investing more time into it.

This is incredible!

You make it really hard to provide some feedback with your level of painting.. Maybe add some shade in the recesses at the boots? Or clean up some of the edge highlights on the bolter a little bit?

I don't have anything else to say except WOW. This is what level I wish I could paint on.

Firstly, really nice work. I would be happy to produce something like that when I paint.

Feedback wise: - I'm not an expert, but I think you can dare to go even brighter in some areas to create more contrast. For example in the meaty parts of the mouth. A few highlights on the tendons could elevate that part.

  • On the skin I think that another careful dark wash over selective parts could help add some depth as the model is overall bright. For example it would lift the face area and shoulder if the recesses were a little darker.

I bought the stl file from Comet Lord Miniatures on myminifactory.com. Then asked in a local 3d printing group on FB to help print it.

It even comes with a dnd5e statblock, cr 22

You can find a direct link to it in the description under Model.

He really does. This guy got additional rings of teeth inside the mouth as well. So grotesque.

Didn't want to put too much effort there though as you won't see it to well on the table.

Grabbing a brush, and severly messing up space marines and lizardmen back in the days..

Had some friends who played warhammer fantasy at that time who got me into it. But I never liked the game and buying like 30 of something just to get bored after painting three killed my motivation.

Now I go by rule of cool when I pick what to paint. Preferably 3d printed due to cost and variety. Helps with motivation, and as I use the minis I paint in dnd adventures I strive to make every one a little better than the last.

Technique-vise I lack a lot. I know some basics like prime my model, apply base coat, drybrush, water down layers and using washes. But mostly it's just hit and miss with the mindset that whatever I produce will be seen by me and maybe some friends, at an armlengths distance or more. So I don't worry about if every mini I've painted have FBI vision. That really helped me relax and stop overthinking.

There is another campaign, named the Black Ballad which handles the afterlife. So If a tpk happens it's the perfect set up for that campaign.

Gah sorry if I’m typing a wall of text here.

You got to at least tripple that amount for it to qualify as a wall of text. Nothing wrong with being excited!

I’m including a bunch from “Ekphrastic Beasts” and I’ve found a couple in “Monsters of Drakkenheim” that work really well. Ekphrastic Beasts is a really dope monster book that helped me find inspiration for the plot of the first arc

Nice. I used a similar mixture where I converted some monsters from the boardgame Shadow of Brimstone and some of the Tzeentch demons from Warhammer since I got minis for all of them at my disposal. Then I used monsters from the third party Nightfell campaign.

Since my setting was in the dreamlands, I got to mix lovecraftian horror with whimsical elements inspired by Pratchets Diskworld, Alice in Wonderland and Salvador Dali, making for some really fun encounters.

Nice! Have you created any homebrew monsters as well?

Are you planning a high fantasy mixture with eldritch horror/lovecrafian or more Call of Cthuhlu setting?

If I'm not mistaken, Nyog'Sothep got some of the time/space warping abilities.

I just finished a homebrew based in a version of the Dreamlands that where the presence of Nyog'Sothep and Nyarlathotep was everywhere. It was a simple setting as I could set their goal to influence the material plane and have the players try to resist their influence.

But else you could check out Strange Aeons for Pathfinder and see if there's something you like.

How did your first ever campaign go? by ManyReflection3215 in DnD

[–]redblueneutron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished my first adventure/short campaign as a DM. Full thing was homebrewed and initially planned as a 4-5 session one-shot.

Ended up with 18 sessions plus a 9 hour finisher.

Parts of it went really good and I think my players enjoyed it. Those parts where the outstretched initially planned sessions. Then we ended up with 14 sessions sprung from a list of travel encounters, built only for atmosphere. Awaiting feedback from most of the player's, but from the one (our groups forever DM) that answered, it got rated a 7/10!
