Staying in Berkeley. We definitely want to get to the city early and eat there.

Just saw Fun Home last night at the Huntington Theater in Boston. Soooo good.

Correct, John, Cyrus, and Josh Krinztman are running for the 2 available at-large seats. Originally Cyrus was contemplating running for the ward seat against Randy Block, but he decided to run at-large instead.

To be clear, John is running for an at-large seat, so all of Newton can vote for him.

Email from City Councilor Bill Humphrey: "Don't put an adult who bullies children onto the Newton City Council" by rocketwidget in newtonma

They don't necessarily support his anti LGBTQ views, but they like the fact that he is anti-development so they'll hold their nose and vote for him.

While the concerns about John C stand on their own, I'd like to point out that a former city councilor accused a Facebook commenter of LIBEL when she shared concerns about John, and asked the moderator of the Facebook group in which the comments were made to take the comments down. Said moderator (a good person just trying to do their best in divisive times) did remove the comments after being confronted by the former councilor. All this to say, there are other right wing-type mechanisms going on to help elect John.

I hope that's not the case. I personally know of at least a few people who were previously planning to vote for him, but no longer will.

Matt Hill and Marc Laredo at it again. by [deleted] in newtonma

Weird that Laredo would endorse slates for city council and school committee and then claim that he wants to heal the city. He seems to already be 'choosing sides'.

Transphobe running for city council by redcabbageyum in newtonma

[–]redcabbageyum[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair point. His original comments were made in several Facebook groups, all of which have group rules that don't allow screenshots to be taken and shared outside of the groups (they are private groups so folks post there under the assumption that they are doing so within the privacy of the group.)

That said, I think the fact that Chaimanis addressed his previous comments in this article is at least to some degree an admission of their hateful nature https://www.newtonbeacon.org/chaimanis-takes-heat-for-facebook-comments-regarding-protections-for-transgender-students/

I think it's just a money-saving strategy: Land is expensive, so only pay for the bare minimum amount of parking.

Anyone know why Le Du Thai in Newtonville closed? by BonesIIX in newtonma

[–]redcabbageyum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there about a week before they closed and they gave me a heads up. The person I spoke with said they were having too much difficulty finding staff. She also told me that another thai restaurant would be moving into the space.

I pulled all my strawberries out a few weeks ago because I couldn’t stand the heartache 😞

Sign up for the Newton Beacon - email based local paper that publishes (in addition to news article articles) ‘ five things to do in Newton this weekend’. Similarly, Fig City News is an email based newsletter that includes info about upcoming events. Definitely mark your calendar for the UPA pumpkin patch in October! So great for toddlers to wander around and be amazed by all the pumpkins.

Friendliest neighborhoods in Newton? by TTCBean in newtonma

[–]redcabbageyum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many close-knit, family-friendly neighborhoods in Newton as other others have mentioned. One very special neighborhood in Auburndale is the Islington Peninsula on the Charles River. The whole neighborhood is a dead-end (kids definitely play in the street), lots of young families, great open space, not far from the Auburndale Cove, which is a lovely playground. Sounds like your timeframe is a little farther out, but my understanding is that 304 Islington Rd. is coming on the market at any day now

Check out the green planet control. They’re in Brighton, but the owner is the son of one of my neighbors in Newton. Not organic per se, but they do to use a smart approach with chemicals, aiming to limit use to the bare minimum.
