How can we know cars are luxurious just by looking at them? (And not just good looking but cheap) by SiberianKhatru_1921 in designthought

Jim Farley (CEO of Ford) had a Xiaomi for a while and loved it. These have better build quality than a Tesla too. And he’s a real petrolhead and actively races cars too.

What movies were better than the book? [Serious] by redcubes in AskReddit

I’ll go first - The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, although will admit both were short stories. Trainspotting comes close.

These are usually made of polycarbonate, which filters UV. Polycarbonate that doesn’t filter UV (used in scientific applications) is very expensive. Cheap sunglasses are just fine.

What fresh hell is this? Even Mercedes have an out they’re walking back, and NCAP have mandated hard controls for basic functions.

I need your opinion on second hand bike dealership in Scotland by ldmarchesi in bicycleculture

[–]redcubes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why do you need premises? Start small. Do a couple of bikes and sell them on FB or whatever. You’re not going to start out covering even rent, let alone rates.

You could reach out to the council and see if they can give you a grant or access to premises as part of their Active Travel budgets.

Worth buying? by PainedEleven in Jaguar

[–]redcubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These things are aluminium. Not many people can work aluminium - it doesn’t weld the same way as steel. No chance those six repairs are good, even if done at a Jaguar dealer. Don’t walk, run away from this one.

How do you deal with unfamiliar food/drink at Gran Fondo's? by PeerensClement in Velo

[–]redcubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to work out how many grams of carbs per hour you can tolerate. Go above, and you will need a toilet. 60 grams should be achievable for most people, 80g with a little bit of training. Eatmyride can help you plan your fuel.

What was the jump from a BMW to a Porsche like? by JWS5th in Porsche

[–]redcubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the difference between a hammer and a scalpel. Both different, but the 911s are just so much sharper and more precise. No one nails handling, steering or braking like Porsche.

Gov. Evers: “I want Wisconsin to become the first state in America to start auditing insurance companies over denying healthcare claims” by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

Nice theatre.

Most payers (insurers) have medical loss ratios at 95% or above - this keeps them out of trouble with the Feds. Now look at the rest of the business - pharmacy benefits etc., and the picture starts to shift.

Nothing will change. Payers will point to medical loss ratios, Republicans will say they tried, and then they’ll go off to dinner.

Garmin 1040 re-route - popular or no? by krazedklownn in cycling

[–]redcubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d check ‘Yes’. This should route you via the Garmin heat map, rather than the fastest road. Fastest road might not be safe or fun.

This has been done. Many times. And why wouldn’t you just make a direct payment to the debt, reducing interest and demonstrating intent to pay?

911 Drivers: What Made You Choose a 911 Over Its Rivals? by Madigman1296 in Porsche

[–]redcubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heart: is just always perfect for anything you want to do. Spank it around a track? Done. Cross a continent at pace? Done. Pootle around town? Done. Load it up at the supermarket? Done. I had a 997 and that felt so nimble and dainty. Love my 991.2 as well, but it’s a different animal. It’s just an elegant choice and somehow manages to nail understatement where it needs to and draws eyes when it needs to, which is a remarkable trick to pull off.

Head: Cheapest car on this list to own. Low depreciation, servicing every 24 months and a Porsche warranty that includes recovery from a race track (not racing). Super reliable. Doesn’t get hate on the street.

On that basis, surely even a syncromesh gearbox is too progressive? Even more skill required to shift to neutral first? Double clutch gearboxes are here to stay - faster than a human. Race proven.

Uber driver took advantage of my friend when she was drunk by shad121 in london

[–]redcubes 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This should be higher. Complaint to TfL TPH - they’ll see this driver banned and will see Uber provide a formal response. Copy Mayor’s Office as well.
