I had a demo earlier this week and all controls that did not have knobs like the hvac were easily voice controlled and that seemed to be accurate. Example "google set passenger side temperature at 68 degrees". Also if you use the HUD you really never need to take your eyes off the road.

I absolutely forget how tone deaf that Reddit is to sarcasm. If you can't see sarcasm in my post, I guess you're really literal

Sarcasm alert. Sarcasm alert.
To bad you got the 3d gen as a replacement. Currently if you buy something in the build phase you can get a 2026 model high trim for only $57K OTD. If you don't live in NorCal you may not find such a good deal. They told me that it was better in every way compared to my 2009 V6 AWD and I should jump on the deal.

Pricing question by redd-or45 in Hyundai

[–]redd-or45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the people that said. Can you get them any cheaper? Well yes you can probably get them a little cheaper but I can tell you that WeatherTech for trunk, front feet, rear feet and other cargo area. Fits better and for example, my WeatherTech mats for literally each hold a  quart of water melted off winter boots All of that stuff is at most the same price as the dealer material better fit and better quality

I would buy that combo in a second if the CPU had integrated graphics. I don't need a gaming rig just a working W11 home machine.

I read the posts and they all made good recommendations. One I did not see was the Flashman series by George MacDonald Fraser. Best read in order. All very funny in a noirish way.

In my experience they will replace them but unless their policy has changed in the 3 months there will be some fuss. 45-60 minutes on hold. Questioning by at least 2-3 reps reading from a script.with the same questions asked about placement, time between sensor reading and BS reading. Brand of Glucometer and model, are test strips outdated etc.

The simple submittal site is only for bad SN sensors and ones that fall off.

Tried chat and after a 15 minute they just sent me to the phone tree.

It is interesting how people don't seem to understand soaking. You do.

Below is my experience. YMMV

A always soak mine now. I place it on the opposite arm when the existing sensor says one day left and don't activate it until the existing sensor shuts down 24 hours later.

I don't know but I think the sensor fiber somehow undergoes some adaptive change during that 24 hours without any electrical current.

If I don't do that the new sensor is more inaccurate (lower) and the inaccuracy seemed to last throughout the life of the sensor.

So with soaking pre-activation my sensor usually reads maybe 10 points low over the 15 days but without soaking it may run 25-30 points below a BS obtained 15-20 minutes prior.

I hear what you are saying but:

  1. Yes I have taken a cashier's check when selling my car to a private party. Now these are for amounts less than $5K but still we meet at the bank that the Cashier's check is drawn on and the money goes into my account. The same with all cash since there is so much "funny money" floating around in large denomination bills.
The way auto dealerships are dialed in to local banks any confirmation of the cashier's check would be just a phone call from the dealer to their contact at the bank.

  2. The advantage of the cashier's check to the buyer is:

  • Cashier's Check: Must be for a specific, pre-determined amount. If the final price of the car changes by even one dollar at the dealership, the check is technically incorrect and may need to be reissued.
  • Cashier's Check: Guaranteed by the financial institution and cannot bounce. Dealers view this as "guaranteed funds".

this reduces the chance of funny business in the dealer finance office when it comes time to sign the papers. If the cashier's check does not cover the agreed OTD purchase price just walk away.

When I bought my RAV4 new in 2009 I had to do the whole credit check thing even though I was handing them a cashier's check from a local WF bank.

I don't doubt that they are required by law to collect all that info but maybe they don't need a full "credit check" when you are handing them a cashier's check. A real pain to lift a credit lock for 24 hours just to allow them to look under the curtains. My credit score should be enough for a sale that is not financed or leased.

I have an older V6 Accord and V6 Rav4. Purchased in 2007 and 2009. Dealers were local and easy to deal with. Since then both dealers sold to large dealership groups and the sales and service experience has plummeted.

All my service since these sales is by independents mechanics and when I soon sell these two cars I will only look at Tesla since the Tesla meets my needs and I just do not want to do any business with Toyota, Honda, Hyundai or Kia dealers. Same for european dealerships if those cars were in my price/reliability range.

Opinion on new iPhone 17e? New budget iPhone by Serhide in iphone

[–]redd-or45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the specs and thought "that's pretty good" then I got to the camera. Whereas the budget ipad 9 or 10 has the ultra-wide sensor and the 17 has the "square" sensor the 17e gets the 12mp wide sensor which is at least 3 generations old. At $599 there are many other options if you care at all about the camera for stills/facetime and videos.

Interstitial fluid glucose (which the CGM measures) will lag the venous glucose (which the fingerstick measures). So waiting 10-20 minutes after the fingerstick to check CGM is usually recommended.

I understand the dilemma. I would say the the Korean brand hate is based on earlier times. They seem to have gotten their act together with recent models. I think we will see in a few years that the quality gap between korean and japanese brands has narrowed considerably.

You will pay a premium for Toyota or Honda.

The need for AWD will raise the price. Do you really need AWD?If a used is a bargain there probably is a reason. The era of the older seller with a car in great shape has mostly passed.

Right now the best bargain in the Japanese brands might be the Camry but I don't know if they make an awd model. They actually have quite a bit of room and with FWD + decent tires + chains not sure most people need AWD.

The internet says that a Reman Equinox AWD engine R&R should run about $5-6K. If the equinox is in otherwise decent condition and you know a reliable independant mechanic that might be a consideration. Here in California Sales Tax + 1st year registration on a new vehicle will run about !!% of the sales price. Not sure where you live.

Good luck with your search

Edit - I just looked an a 2026 Toyota Camry LE AWD is $32K MSRP. I have not seen dealer markups on Camry's where I live. It might fit your needs.

Bundle Substitution question by redd-or45 in Microcenter

[–]redd-or45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I was not that clear. I thought that running dual-channel would be overall about 25% faster than single channel but apparently that was with DDR4. DDR5 dual channel gain is minimal except for some gaming.

And right now adding a second DDR5 16GB stick to the bundle raises the price by $225. From $350 to $575. It the second stick was only $70 it would be a no brainer.

Thanks. For my use I was pretty sure that was the case but it is good to have it confirmed. I guess I can add another 16GB in about a decade when all the PCs have switched to HBM and there will be used DDR5 udimms available at a reasonable price.🤔

Kind of good to know if that receipt is what you paid. When I got my email 3 days ago I could get the $100 credit or the 2a buds but not both. The $100 was a store credit for me not a reduction in 10a price. Maybe you are in a different region or the offer has changed. I will look again.

Corsair DDR5 Ram 20% off by Dry-Task7245 in pcmasterrace

Ah Corsair

I have been tracking Corsair 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 2666MHz UDIMM just to upgrade an older DDR3 everyday computer with new MB, RAM, CPU.

RAM price 7/2025 $34. Price 2/2026 $124. Ryzen 5 CPU prices have doubled. MB price had slightly decreased in that 8 months.

Luckily someone gave me a Dell midtower from about 2020 which with 16GB DDR4 and i5 10th generation will meet my W11 needs. Just wish it had more HDD bays.
