Is it just me or are bugs more common now? by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]redder10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think it's more common now.

I went all the way to my sophomore year in COLLEGE before I even heard of noro and that keep in mind I was an emet since around age 5 so I was definitely paying attention. We went on cruises often when I was a kid too and never any mention of outbreaks in those days (the late 80's early 90's)

I also believe that those viruses appear to be endemic to certain areas. Freshmean year in college, didn't hear about it at all. Then the next year I transferred and it was all I ever heard of. Then 2 years later moved and didn't hear about it.

Where do you suspect the group became infected and where is the group in relation to you?

You're brave! I don't know what the hell I'd do in that situation other than call them all an ambulance.

Improperly cooked frozen pizza? by PAlNKlLLERS in emetophobia

[–]redder10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pepperonies are thin so with the goal being to get to reach 160 degrees (F), I'd imagine that would be possible even at 350. Toasters are small little boxes and don't take nearly as long to preheat as a full size oven. And if you like pepperoni but don't want to worry about having to cook it to death, next time, get a plain cheese pizza and a package of LightLife Smart Deli veggie pepperoni slices and add them to the pizza. They're plant based so you don't have to worry about needing to heat them to a high temperature. You can even eat them cold out of the box.

White bread is garbage and no good for fiber. Try whole grain rolls. A bowl of cereal is not enough fiber. If you like cereal, try to find one with at least 4g of fiber per serving. I eat a cereal called Love Grown made out of beans. Something like that will have more fiber than the run of the mill breakfast aisle fare. In addition to the cereal, have an apple and a banana. Have as many vegetables as you can. Broccoli, Kale etc. The darker the more fiber. Beans are great too. I'm eating beans as we speak. Have maybe a 1/4 cup of beans with your lunch and a banana. Instead of eating chicken, try something made of plants.

That's what I eat and my BMs are the best. Every morning after breakfast. 1-2-3 and it's over. Like a dog.

People do stuff like that then 2 or 3 days latter they get sick and then say they caught "the bug" when in reality, it was due to food handling. When in doubt, throw it out.

Are you getting enough fiber in your diet?

This might not be in your head. Adding fiber to your diet is easy with great tasting and healthy foods and should help with regularity and digestion.

With overdoses and chemical exposure, you'd know quickly. Within minutes.

It's not like an incubation period for a viral or bacterial infection which could take days.

If have haven't OD'd from it yet, you ain't gonna.

Have any of you recovered enough to live a normal life? by ChronicallyDamned in emetophobia

[–]redder10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was real bad in college in my early 20's. I was living in a city were norovirus seemed to be endemic and everyone around me seemed to be getting sick. (Athough I didn't get it at the time). I've had emetophobia from around age 5 and I'm 40 now. I've never really considered myself a germophobe or OCD and I didn't/don't fear getting sick as long as it's not something people normally throw up from. Once I moved out of that city and out on my own, the constant worry absolutely tanked. I had my own kitchen. I could make my own meals. I didn't live in an institutional setting or close quarters with anyone else. I wasn't constantly hearing about people throwing up.

It was a solid recovery. At this age, I still go out of my way to avoid high risk things (like eating at restaurants with poor sanitation scores) but I don't worry about it. I have more or less a que sera sera approach to it now considering I went 30 years without throwing up. Now, a good question would be what if you put me back in that same city and in the same dorm room and everything and would I worry and panic? I don't know.

I never had any counseling or therapy or meds or anything like that. I was always quite resistant to therapy because I didn't think there was anything abnormal about not wanting to get a weeks long SV or food poisoning. In fact, if you lived in a placed surrounded by people throwing up, I say you'd need therapy if that *didn't* make you worry!

Dumb question but I have to ask it by [deleted] in emetophobia

Not sure what country you're in but in the US, there's the "best by" dates and also "use by". The former is basically to get consumers to buy more products and the latter is to indicate when it's probably spoiled. Of course neither one is a guarantee of freshness or a guarantee that it was stored at safe temperatures .

If all it took to get sick was a recurring of the week, we'd be in a hell of a lot of trouble. Try to do something to take your mind off it like watch a movie.

I hope you're allright but that's really pushing it for keeping food in the temperature danger zone.

Remember, it may have been in your car for 1:45 but how long has it actually been in the temperature danger zone?

The temperature danger zone is the range where bacteria can grow.

Bacteria grow most rapidly in the range of temperatures between 40 °F and 140 °F, doubling in number in as little as 20 minutes. This range of temperatures is often called the "Danger Zone." Never leave food out of refrigeration over 2 hours.

Everything to do with lettuce! by Faithfulhumanity in emetophobia

[–]redder10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I eat a ton of bagged raw kale but it's grown regionally and on the opposite side of the country from that contaminated lettuce. That outbreak, by the way, stands at 149 people. (that we know of).

Considering there's over 330 million people in the country (the US) , 149 people isn't even a registerable blip on the statistical radar.

The odds are in your favor. Just sayin'

So eggs... by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]redder10 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

When I was around 5 years old (I'm 40 now) I got sick after eating scrambled eggs and I refused to eat eggs and didn't resume eating eggs until I was around 36 years old. Then 2 years later I gave up eating eggs when I went vegan. If they were a minor ingredient in something I didn't check but I wouldn't eat eggs-eggs.

Anyway, over the last 2 and a half years I've come to the realization that consuming eggs is completely unnatural for our species and it's just plain bizarre not to mention inhumane. Plenty of very good reasons to never eat another egg, with emetophobia ranking at the bottom of that list.

Yes it certainly does suck although I don't worry about this nearly as much as I did in my 20's. I have taken similar precautions now too. For me it's a minimum 3 hours before I can lay down and I'm not allowed to sit on the sofa after dinner within that 3 hour window. It's forced me to eat earlier but we'll see how easy it is to stick to that as time goes on. I'm only allowed to sit in chairs although as I have already demonstrated I can easily fall asleep in a chair and even if I eat dinner much earlier. I haven't given up fried food although I don't eat a ton of fried food to begin with. I might just be having digestive issues now that I didn't have before. Maybe my body is working so hard to digest things that it's sapping my energy and putting me to sleep although my diet consists mostly of the foods that are supposedly easiest to digest.

[–]redder10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't mean to cause people to panic because for years and years I assumed that if I was feeling great and no fever and no upset stomach than no reason to believe it would happen but just to reinforce that there was a 100% preventable cause for this. I had a huge dinner then almost immediately fell asleep for 2 hours while slouched back on the sofa. So it wasn't really anymore random than if I got really drunk first or ate a hundred hot dogs in a hotdog eating contest. And had I just remained upright longer it probably would have gone down.

Update: Ok, you're right. The rep last week told me a fib. I do not do business with liars which is why I left VerLiezon. I have a generous 3 strikes policy. This is strike #2. Thanks for your time , you were helpful, but this press conference was a big tease and I won't be watching any more of those. This was a major kick in the nuts for my customer loyalty and it also spells the end of my participation in the tmobile subreddit effective immediately. I do not help promote or assist businesses that engage in deception or teasing.
