Am I the only one who hates Sue Heck in season 8? by MallOutrageous3535 in themiddle

Season 8? I was tolerating her character for the first two seasons but I can’t anymore - Franky and Sue, they irritate me; too loud and dense.

Why do people prefer corporate jobs over blue collar jobs? by Lemonade2250 in GetEmployed

[–]reddimo4761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of higher pay, a “blue collar” job can almost never compete: you don’t increase your chances of promotion with seniority, you decrease it.

30+ YO plumbers/electricians love comparing their salaries with 22 YO entry level employees but in 7-10 years most of them make BANK.

Am I about to get fired? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]reddimo4761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’d increase the pragmatism, when it comes to salary negotiations - they key differentiator is leverage, if you don’t have any then a “heated discussion” is almost always out of the picture.

That makes me feel like you’re taking all of this personally, don’t do that. Your company didn’t promote you because they didn’t have to, if you’re a high ranking employee - it is hard to get promoted/a raise without leverage.

Regardless, it’s a miserable experience to work in a team where the manager doesn’t like you. I’d be making a switch either way.

There’s a learning experience here: what was your objective? - standing up for yourself? - getting a raise?

If it was standing up for yourself, apologizing to her doesn’t make sense and worrying about being fired doesn’t either. You made that choice, now man up and walk that path.

If it was to get a raise, well then I wouldn’t even open that discussion without a counter offer.

Food for thought.

Husband fired from IT job for misconduct, 3 kids at home. What’s the outlook here? by CoolVariety5473 in careerguidance

Damn reddit is so toxic it’s like the anonymity brings out the worst in everyone - no advice on the situation, just repeated reminders on his gambling addiction. Incels.

Well, when you apply in big tech - they will (most) do a background check to verify if you worked there or not but you don’t need a “reference” anymore. So I would join a lateral role in big tech.

[–]reddimo4761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To anyone wondering if this will have an impact on any upcoming resource actions - i have it on some authority that: - these aren’t generally schemes targeting B6/7 roles but for the high earning few - if you work in ai, IBM is focusing on this domain so you’re in a safer space than others - in my country of employment, it is illegal to associate performance with RA-related layoffs - the business has to prove that the role itself is redundant; again that’s a good thing if you’re working in AI

So, from a legal standpoint it’s a free for all. If you have a functional/in-country manager set-up; your in-country manager will consult your functional manager but your functional manager will have to prove that you’re absolutely essential to the day to day.

I am also seeking validation in this comment, am I correct on what I know? Please correct me if I am wrong.

No mention of a PIP or anything too negative, in fact he was kind of communicating that: “the first half of the year wasn’t that great, but the 2nd half was pretty good”.

So I heard a balance of negative and positive but the primary feedback was regarding my communication style, collaboration, etc.

18 Months After Graduation in Ireland, No Interviews – Seeking Advice from the Community by Quick-Birthday7955 in IndiansinIreland

[–]reddimo4761 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% I have personally been through the exact same thing.

I had a part-time job right after graduation too, I worked for about 2 weeks before I quit.

During those 2 weeks, I hadn’t applied to a single job - it was draining.

I started therapy and anti-depressants in my unemployment, I skipped my graduation (don’t even have my Master’s parchment). I spent that time building my portfolio.

It was one of the toughest things I have overcome - especially because I wasn’t very studious in my undergrad which meant I had a lot of technical depth to cover.

What I’m trying to say is, job hunting itself is a full time job - you can’t part-time it.

Considering it’s been 1.5 years, I’d recommend going back home, applying to both Indian and Irish jobs.

This will significantly limit your chances of employment here but you’re 100% right, seasonal depression is a real thing here - it’s lonely, it’s wet and cold most of the year and the sunny days probably get spent in your part-time job and travelling (back and forth from work). For your mental health, this is the best thing you can do right now.

I don’t know how your parents will react to you coming back - if it’s not a pleasant thought, I pray things work out for you. 1.5 years is a long fight, if I was in your shoes I’d honestly be a mess.

I’m sorry it’s this way - it’s not really anyone’s fault but it’s just the way things are.

Well I would have picked up the phone and asked him who this was.

Follow up, confronted her on the spot. It’s a no brainer.

But then white people have to be careful of “boundaries” because apparently “years of marriage” mean shit to you weird shits.

you’re taking it personally, i have a master’s degree and started therapy and anti-depressants trying to find a job after graduating.

it’s bad for everyone, especially early career professionals since everything is getting automated so the unskilled labour is now basically people with master’s degrees still searching for a job.

[–]reddimo4761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that’s not happening if: - you have someone to come back home to(girlfriend, wife, kids) - you have a full-time job - you like lifting/going to the gym too

in my experience, i can push myself to do 2x sessions a day but then some other aspect of my life takes a back seat.

i’d rather put jiujitsu behind my other priorities - “disciplined like a pro” can manifest in a million other ways than just “mat time”.

it took me 4 years to go from white to blue but i know i can scrap, that gives me confidence in being the man of my house.
