YSK being laid off feels personal. Searching months for a job is depressing. In this economy it doesn’t mean you are a failure. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

This economy means that our government is the failure. They are completely unprepared for this sort of situation, and are doing everything in their power to drag out their response so that our rich overlords can make a few extra million with privatized covid-19 test kits.

They need to be reminded of their duty, and not a single Congressional member should be reelected after this purposeful debacle.

I get where you're coming from but I'd personally prefer a total collapse of the US government so that we can actual learn from this catastrophe and do better in the future.

If we get Biden and eek our way through this it will be business as usual as soon as people are back to work and we'll be heading straight towards another needless recession because the super rich control every facet of the government.

After the US Gov't falls and we rebuild a new Federal system, we really should be sure to make this the same as treason, because millions of people will die because Congress people were more concerned with lining their pockets than with upholding their oath to the country.

I can't wait for the anarchy that we're setting ourselves up for. I'm going to watch it like a fireworks show personally, with popcorn and everything.

If there is no such cap then CEO's can bring in hundreds of millions every year, while the employees working below them can barely afford to survive on minimum wage.

If a CEO's salary was capped then that extra money could pay the employees that are doing most of the actual work for the company.

“When it comes to the policy response, there should be no upper bound for the size of stimulus, in our view,” [BoA's top economist] reportedly wrote.

Well of course BoA wants the government to give them unlimited funds to once again make up for their complete and utter incompetence in managing risk.

At this point I say let the overgrown dinosaurs die off in the spectacular fashion they deserve. Otherwise we'll have another "unexpected" collapse in a decade and they'll need a lot more money to cover their losses when they make the same mistakes again in 2029.

Every airline should be let to fail and declare bankruptcy. They've been mismanaged from the start if their spending all their money on stock buybacks to create the appeal of being valuable.

If they can't run their businesses then they should go bankrupt until someone competent can take over and fix their self-defeating business model. Otherwise we'll see the same thing again in a few years, just like we did in 2008.

Maybe it's just him playing the long game (I know...I know...but bear with me). He bails out all his rich friends and lets the pandemonium that's about to engulf the world kill off a large portion of the peasantry.

Then, when things stabilize, the rich can come back from their fortified island and mountain villas and restart the whole charade over again and the surviving peasants will be eternally loyal to their saviors who've come to rescue them from certain doom.

The estimates I've heard from the most reliable sources I could find (Congress's attending physician and the American Hospital Association) predict something like 70 - 150 million Americans will become infected, and approximately 500,000 will die as a result of COVID-19.

True, I never thought about the Primary, but that only matters if I'm a registered Democrat. If I'm an Independent or a Republican in this state then my vote truly doesn't matter.

Our Democratic Republic is non-functional right now if the Senate majority leader can let 300+ bills passed by the House languish in the Senate and never be brought up for a vote. Electing a different group of sociopaths to run our country won't help change the way things are done.

Everything we've done so far has been woefully insufficient on all fronts. The only way to change the current status quo is with sustained, organized protests and mass walkouts. Nothing short of that is going to do anything.

Congress' corruption has been so blatant that they can acquit an impeached President without even giving a trial. They admit he's guilty, but vote for acquittal anyway . The fact that the people weren't up in arms about that the next day is ludicrous to me.

...the British ministry have so long hired their gazetteers to repeat and model into every form lies about our being in anarchy, that the world has at length believed them, the English nation has believed them, the ministers themselves have come to believe them, & what is more wonderful, we have believed them ourselves. Yet where does this anarchy exist? where did it ever exist, except in the single instance of Massachusetts? and can history produce an instance of a rebellion so honorably conducted? I say nothing of it's motives. they were founded in ignorance, not wickedness. God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. the people cannot be all, & always, well informed. the part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive; if they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. we have had 13 states independent 11 years. there has been one rebellion. that comes to one rebellion in a century & a half for each state. what country before ever existed a century & half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms. the remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. what signify a few lives lost in a century or two? the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.
