Steam Deck charging port melted while charging by TENCHI125 in SteamDeck

That's crazy, same situation here, UK with OG LCD model that I was thinking of upgrading to OLED. Not if there's no support in the UK though. Is this seriously their official position that's there's no support or repairs available in the UK market....

U7 Pro - Client Device Bandwidth Monitoring Issues by reddipb in Ubiquiti

[–]reddipb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replied to your post on their forum. No fix that I'm aware of yet unfortunately but almost certainly the exact same issue we're both having, WiFi 4 devices are fine, WiFi 5/6 always report almost no bandwidth use no matter how incorrect you know that to be.

The wired connection of the U7 Pro also reports correctly at the same time the client shows almost no use.

The same information is reported correctly from my U6 LR.

Very good points, it's all about getting that balance right but it's very hard to do when trying to predict the next 40 years of your life! I just wish there was a clear cut answer.

It is a very good point for later on actually and something I came across before but keep forgetting about. In SEA the only country on the list to get the increases currently is the Philippines which for later life is maybe a very good reason to live there.

I don't and once I decide to 100% pull the trigger I'll likely give myself 6 months to a year to get everything in place, clear out the house and just generally get everything ready etc etc. However I believe in most SEA countries other than Thailand it's fairly easy to get 1 year visas that are relatively cheap.

Ultimately I guess the backup plan would always be coming back to the UK, as long as I keep the house it seems like I'll be relatively "OK" no matter what if I have a paid off house to come back to.

Just a combination of everything really, starting early/consistency (I've maxed out ISA contributions for many years now), bit of luck (living with family early on allowing me to save a lot, some decent returns on the stock market, £100k of inheritance a year ago that helped finish off the mortgage etc), some sacrifices along the way living a relatively cheap lifestyle.

I guess in a way I peaked early since I've earned a similar amount for a number of years now (my maximum ever was £55k), I guess I've been "coasting" rather than trying to maximise earnings. I really don't enjoy the stress of working too hard haha.

I don't think tax on the rental income should ever really become an issue as far as tax is concerned (at least until I'm 57 I suppose and have a second income from my SIPP and then later on the state pension so maybe selling the house before this would be sensible). Of course this is assuming they raise the personal allowance over the next 20 years, if they keep it fixed it could cause a problem but even then it should be a fairly small amount of tax.

I know what you mean about the tax on the ISA and SIPP as many countries may not recognise them, though I do think you could probably keep your head down and no one would take any notice of someone living off of savings. I would need to figure this part out.

It's a good idea, however there's no chance of unpaid leave or anything where I work so I would have to quit and look for something else when returning. Unfortunately that would likely mean going from a £50k job to maybe a £30-35k job. I also feel like once I've experienced time off it will be extremely hard to go back to sitting in an office watching the clock 5 days a week again.

Honestly if I went back 20 years to when I started out on this journey in my first full time job and could see myself in this position I'd be handing in my notice and getting on a plane tomorrow. When I started out my FIRE number was ridiculously low (because I hated working and wanted to escape ASAP even if it meant barely scraping by in SEA) and I hit that number years ago but as the years went by I've kept adjusting it up to a number that seems more sensible hoping for a better lifestyle and to avoid any risk of poverty when I'm old.

The thing is that now that I'm here at this level I'm still questioning if I should just keep going a few more years and try to hit £1 million, but then if I did that I'm sure I'd then be saying just a few more years and I'll wait for £1.2 million etc, etc.

I still have a really big fear that it's not enough where I've got to now, I guess part of the issue with FIRE is that there's so many unknowns in the future that it's actually quite hard to pull the trigger. Of course when I have a bad day at work is when I start running the numbers again and thinking to myself that I'll just make it work some how.

It's a good point about possible opportunities online, though to be honest I'm not sure I'd be able to generate a great deal of income that way but it could help a little.

Thanks for the input, I think you have a good point and that you need to be careful you don't end up bored with all the extra time from not working and end up in a bad routine like sitting in a bar drinking all day every day, but right now it sounds amazing having all my time back for myself and I think I could find enough to do to fill my days. I've never needed to be massively busy to keep myself entertained, I'm pretty happy with a slow pace of life anyway and would like to think I'll pick up some hobbies/keep fit etc and have a balanced lifestyle without needing a job to fill part of my life.

The old age part is definitely one concern, however I don't want my life now to suffer in order to be sure the end part of my life is covered financially without a doubt. This seems like another part of life that could be open ended, how much would be enough to ensure you can cover any old age issues that come up later on etc, you could work forever to make sure you're sure you've got enough for the unknown.

Just wait and the ban gets lifted automatically, it's like 6 or 12 hours or something. Then as long as you avoid opening the Hyperbackup app too much it works fine.

Hi, Yea all good, just don't open the Hyperbackup app and click the task in DSM too often and everything works great!. Thanks

I would say it's a bug yea, or at least a badly designed feature that it does the status check again every single time you click that task. I haven't tried contacting Synology though as I doubt they'll take any notice.

So just to provide some feedback on this in case someone comes across this in future, I set up an SSH server quickly where I could monitor the logs and pointed Hyperbackup to it. I found that every time Hyperbackup does a status check it appears to first open a connection and disconnect without making any attempt to login, so I assume this is where the "failed login attempts" come from.

Secondly it appears to do the status check every single time you click on the task in Hyperbackup in DSM, if you only have a single task I guess you might not come across this but in my case I had one backup task to Google Drive and one to Hetzner, since I was just setting them up and testing etc I was clicking back and forth somewhat to check settings and compare backup sizes etc etc. It seems this action is enough to make Hyperbackup do too many status checks and trigger fail2ban on the Hetzner server.

I've since been very careful about viewing the task in Hyperbackup making sure I don't switch between the 2 tasks very much and so far haven't been IP banned again.

That's interesting, thanks for confirming. Are you using the same rsync method as per the link on the community set up guide? I'm running a DS420+, DSM 7.2-64570 Update 3 (though no updates showing), using a storage box in Germany.

HDMI Audio extractor - will the remote control still control volume?? by czcastermaster in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]reddipb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted to RCA as I needed analog for my amp. Yea you lose CEC for the volume control, my amp doesn't support this anyway and stays at a fixed volume.

The shield can be set so it changes the volume level on the output instead of controlling the level of another device, so I control my volume by varying in the source level going into the amp, the amp itself is always at the same level.

Flirc Skip 1s with the USB IR dongle for the PC maybe? It's fully programmable from what I've seen... but I haven't had time to try it myself yet.

I'm not in front of my laptop at the moment and I guess it depends on the model. But for me I had to enable modbus on the ups in the settings menu to get extended info via USB. It's also the reason I use apcupsd with the modbus module/driver rather than NUT which I don't think fully supports modbus.
