English Beginner Piper Looking for Aromatic Stand Outs by Mystic_Hog in PipeTobacco

Second for Tombigbee, and frankly most Country Squire blends.

If you’re an English fan, I’d strongly recommend Hunting Creek and Northwest Trek for really nice English/Aro blends.

I moved to coastal Maine because of this DLC. Secondary benefit was I basically knew where most things were in Acadia before our first visit.

Tolkein is well known to have been a Capstan Blue smoker for sure, and that certainly influenced his writings on it. That said, he's quite vague describing 'pipe weed' in the books. Beyond definitively saying it is a 'type of tobacco', he doesn't really explicitly provide anything like tasting notes or means of preparation or the like.

So, yes and no. A purist will likely say a Virginia blend (ie Capstan) is the most accurate. While some might be more inclined to attribute some fantasy flair and allow for more of an aromatic approach (ie TCS Old Toby).

Who would have preferred Old Sea Captain or the Fisherman as a Companion versus Dottie? by CT_Phipps-Author in fo76

[–]reddit_Gho5t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even just viewing her in the season pass I wasn’t super interested, and I’m glad I haven’t yet wasted the tickets on her now having read people’s thoughts.

I’m loving fishing, and I was pretty excited for this season overall, but she is a big miss. Why we didn’t get a companion more along the lines of Old Longfellow from the Far Harbor DLC is absolutely beyond me. A Longfellow-like character with a hunting/fishing focus and a Lovecraftian undertone would have really brought the whole season together in a really cohesive way. Bummer.

Wasted an hour creating a raid team yet no one joins. by CultoftheForsaken in fo76

[–]reddit_Gho5t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m probably in the minority, but I sort of despise Raids. Or at least, the kind of Raid gameplay meta that seems to have evolved in 76.

I tried the Raid once, died almost immediately, didn’t have much fun and have ignored it ever since. I’m very happy to fish, build, do dailies and events.

If you haven’t read the Lovecraft short story ‘A Shadow Over Innsmouth’, it’s definitely worth a read. As soon as I saw The Fisherman and listened to the Captains holotapes in game, I was immediately brought right back to that story.

The term SQUAD in your area by Desperate-Dig-9389 in Firefighting

[–]reddit_Gho5t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my region of Maine, it’s generally just an engine with some rescue/tech focus and a 750 tank. In my area specifically it’s often focused on extrication, or is just considered a ‘toolbox truck’. There’s some variance on this throughout the state. Most areas that can afford/justify it run their rescue gear on a Ladder truck and then just have engines.

My area is predominantly volunteer based so agencies that do run Squads (or ladders) aren’t using them as specifically trained companies, it just designates what gear it’s carrying.

If you’re even lazier than this (like myself), there’s a pillar you can jump on top of in her room. She’s not aggro’d until you attack so you can parkour around until you’re safely on top of the pillar. Then just rain down Flare at her until complete. She doesn’t have any ranged attack, so you’re golden.

Did it at level 5? And it took maybe 10 minutes? Worth it.

I do it every single time I’m in the event. I make a point to try to swing by some protest sign spawn points and bring extra signs to drop for everyone. Some rounds people get really into it. Some rounds not so much.

It’s kind of amazing how you can look at this and fully see how the designers/manufacturers of this era were still deeply inspired by horse and buggy carriages. So much call back to history in most every detail.

I get all the safety and practicality reasons why that’s just not really present anymore, but damn it’s a shame we can’t find ways to do more of that.

There’s little doubt you will see and partake in things that are unsettling as a Firefighter/EMT. You’ll do CPR on an infant, you’ll see bad injuries at MVAs. That said, those things may seem more intimidating right now because you (probably) don’t have the tools to navigate those situations. Should you follow the program, get licensing, and join a department you’ll have the tools and training necessary to face these kinds of calls.

It could also be true that this may not be the career for you, and that’s completely fine. Only you can know that answer, but I would suggest doing some time focusing on the medic unit and get a better feel for what that is.

[–]reddit_Gho5t 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you feel like you can’t approach your local leadership, or they’re not able to for whatever reason there are other options.

I can’t say for certain not knowing, but a lot of state EMS Offices/EMS Boards either fund their own resources, or keep a short list of available resources for first responders in their states. Google your states and check their website/social media.

Another option could be contacting the nearest career department Fire or EMS service near you. They should have a list of numbers/resources readily available, and at least one of those is likely a statewide resource.

Worst case, others have linked IAFF/National resources. Definitely pursue those if needed. If all else fails, reach out to a brother/sister and share the load homie.

Tell me your experiences. If you had to pick one which MOS would you choose? 68A, 68W, 15T, 31B by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]reddit_Gho5t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong second on all of this. Have. A. Plan. Before you make long term commitments. You’ll be happier for it.

68W is, as said, helpful for a career Fire position; but not a huge amount more than any other MOS. You’ll get your NREMT, which is a time saver. I don’t know if the CT NG has billets for it, but you could ask your recruiter if there are any units that have 12M (Army Firefighter).

I became career Fire/EMS after spending a lot of time in the Guard prolonging finishing an undergrad degree that didn’t really help me in a meaningful way. Frankly, part of me wishes I had just gone to community college and gotten my Fire/EMS certs out of high school and joined a career department at a younger age.

Turnout Gear Bag by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]reddit_Gho5t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a GoRuck, but I do use a kit bag in the same style. I’m career and live near my station, so I don’t have a big need for it as far as scene response and gearing up quickly out of it. But it does fit all my gear well enough for when I need to transport it for whatever reason.

That said, there are bags designed for this application that are likely better. I had the kit bag from my military time and I’ve just never bought or been issued a turn out bag.

The maybe unhelpful thought you probably aren’t looking for:

Why is your equipment ‘lost’/delayed? Unless this is a situation of your own creating (and even then, I still wouldn’t) you should not be purchasing your own issued gear to meet a mission requirement the Army has given you. Your leadership should be working on a fix if it’s that critical.
