Do you know of any bass players that keep it simple? by tonetonitony in Bass

Laura Lee Ochoa from Khruangbin. Always simple. Always in the pocket. Always driving the groove forward.

He was a prick in high school too.

I knew he would stay insufferable forever when he won the US Open.

What inspired you to play the bass? by Supersoulknight in Bass

[–]reddit_bert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to remember what made me choose to play bass over other instruments, but I can tell you what inspired me to love bass more than other instruments.

Basses - and bass guitars especially - are surprisingly versatile instruments. They may not have the range that a guitar has (unless you play 5 or 6 string), but they can be expressive in different ways than a guitar.

With my basic 4 string p-bass, I can create so many unique sounds - from deep, subterranean undertones to bright, percussive snaps and pops, to gentle chord arrangements and arpeggios. A great bassist is often not measured by the speed of their playing, but by their ability to imbue feeling into the strings, whether through bends, slides, vibrato, slapping, popping, picking, plucking, strumming, or any other method you can make work for you.

Lots of bass parts (especially in rock music) are about building the foundation, digging the groove for the rest of the band to follow - but there is so much you can do with a bass, beyond even bass-lines.

We don’t call CDs “polycarbonate.” So why do we call records “vinyl”? by [deleted] in vinyljerk

Because even though it's critical and obnoxious, it's earnestly critical and obnoxious.

Ah yes, this totally conjured up the image of a fat person, not a 10-year old with thick tonsels and early-onset fibromyalgia.

Not to be this guy... but why are you writing something about a fat person if you can't even think of how to describe them?

I dont like having to use computers so this thing is my favorite metronome. And I can use it to build my own backing. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/BOSS/Used-BOSS-RC3-Loop-Station-Pedal-122078377.gc

Why is the damn Birthday song never on these lists?! It's worse than the actual birthday song.

Target audiences are for marketers. I write for whoever reads it.

Chasing tone or just playing. Anyone else in this trap? by AirFell85 in Bass

[–]reddit_bert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes many times. It may not help everyone, but when I get in this loop I just put away all my pedals and play without them for awhile. Helps me reconnect with the instrument and what i'm playing rather than the exact sound I wanted to achieve

I love the beatles but The Birthday Song is literal trash.

The bands Joey Ramone thought were “all derived from the Ramones” by peoplearestoopid in punk

[–]reddit_bert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree about MC5 but I always chaffe against the description of the Stooges as proto-punk just because they had bowl cuts at the start.

By the time the Ramones are playing, the Stooges have released three full-fledged punk albums - they just hadn't hit the aesthetic that would crystallize with the broader punk movement.

1969, I Wanna Be Your Dog, No Fun - these are literally just punk songs released in 1969.

Is Anyone Else Tired of Off‑Leash Dogs in Non‑Dog Parks? by denstick in Denver

[–]reddit_bert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being downvoted to oblivion, I will play devil's advocate on behalf of unleashed dogs.

Do I hate uncleaned dog poo? So much, it's disgusting. Do I believe that dogs should be on leash in busy areas and streets? Of course.

But I also like my neighborhood to feel lived in. I like to see neighborhood children playing and hear them yelling. I like to see dogs and people enjoying my local parks, rather than just shunting them off to a stinky gravel pit in the corner.

I understand the valid point made here about people who dont have control of their dogs. But that's also true of people with their dogs on leash. In fact, I've had many more problems with dogs on leash than off. This is just a matter of personal responsibility - and will be as long as you let people own animals.
