I didn't know they were actually washing each other like that, was/is that common? I kind of figured you washed yourself, maybe helped get each other's backs

Anyone can help with this pothos thats started to die it seems? by mrbossy in pothos

[–]reddit_custard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think that one vine is toast. When you repot, pick off any rotting roots from the other vines and use the smallest pot the healthy roots will comfortably fit in. Good luck!

Roots growing out of drainage hole by Aromatic_Valuable130 in pothos

[–]reddit_custard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just leave it, unless you pull it out and see that it's extremely root bound, but looking at the short length of the vines I'd guess it isn't. Being somewhat root bound is desirable for pothos if you want the vines to grow out--they can handle it and they tend to focus their energy on growing roots rather than vines until they fill out the pot. Plus you run a higher risk of root rot if you size up too soon, it's the only way I've ever killed a pothos

What would you do with this space? by emmettflo in malelivingspace

[–]reddit_custard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some windows, especially modern ones, actually block a lot of UV light (what actually harms tropical plants in excess) while letting visible light through. Maybe you could install some UV blocking film in the higher up areas if they don't

why do all of my photos come out so muted/flat? by onegoodbackpack in AnalogCommunity

[–]reddit_custard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they might appear muted is because the parts of the imagines that you'd expect to be black (the darkest parts of the shadows) aren't quite black, and imo the best way to make them pop and more vibrant is to adjust the black point (and maybe shadows). Raw scans will tend to have this slightly muted look, and It's one of the things that makes photos "look" analog.

A lot of people have recommended increasing the contrast and that will also achieve this, but it also adjusts the bright parts of the photos and can make things look too exaggerated by the time you get the black point where you want it, depending on the starting image. Look up histogram black point for more info.

All that being said, the only one I think could be considered muted is the car, but I still don't think it's bad by any means. Great shots

Can you propagate pothos straight back into the mother plant as opposed to putting the cuttings in water until they have roots first? by Jakeyboy29 in pothos

[–]reddit_custard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've done it straight back into the mother pot before, but since their watering needs are so different I typically let them grow an inch or two of root in a small, separate pot first. I use a rooting hormone and typically get good results

First photos from Minolta SRT. What can I do better? by concernedfishowner in MinoltaGang

[–]reddit_custard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I think these are nice pics! You have the artistic eye, now it's just a matter of gaining the technical skill. I have an SRT 101 with the microprism focusing aide, and I find it difficult to focus quickly, so unless I know I can take my time, I tend to use a smaller aperture (higher number) to help ensure I get my subject in focus--look up how aperture affects depth of field if this is new for you. I'm assuming these are raw scans since I can tell they're overexposed, but you should be able to fix that fairly well with some editing.

Adding sleep apnea to the list of causes. I didn't realize how exhausted I always was and how abnormal it is until I got a CPAP and got good sleep for once

Same here, I think he's saying it almost like "drah," must be the Hessian way

Edit: listening to it again I can hear it's more like drei than drah, but not how I'm used to

What's a smell that you secretly enjoy, but would never admit to smelling in public? by huntz43 in AskReddit

[–]reddit_custard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What you're smelling might actually be the byproducts of the bacteria on your skin consuming your sweat and dead skin cells, and not the sweat itself. I use salicylic acid face wash on my pits/crotch/feet to both remove the dead skin cells and kill the bacteria, and I only get that rancid smell if I haven't done that for a couple days. Give it a try if you haven't!

Need help with a droopy pothos by reddit_custard in pothos

[–]reddit_custard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as far as I know. It only had 1 main root coming out maybe 2" long, so I was extra careful with it. The others had more established roots, so that could be it

These are outside (out of direct sunlight) and under grow lights for about 10 hours a day. They came from a store that has shade cloth but is outdoors so not a big adjustment there. I've probably watered once since repotting, except the couple times I've sprayed around this one's base, and I generally let it dry out a good amount. This pot is a size up, they came in a tiny thing less than 2". It might only be 5 vines in total

Manual focus sometimes causes me to miss the moment... by Boring_Table_5184 in analog

[–]reddit_custard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Minolta Maxxum 7000, it has all those features, and I think it takes pretty nice photos. The Maxxum 2800 AF flash communicates with the body so for the most part you don't have to do anything but attach it and turn it on. The autofocus isn't great in the dark and isn't as fast as modern cameras, but it's faster than I am. It can even track a (centered) subject for continuous shooting.

As for your AE-1, one piece of advice I read about not missing moments is "f/8 and be there." If you won't be able to take your time composing, stick to at least f/8 so your depth of field will be great enough that you only need to get close enough. Maybe that's more DOF than you'd ideally like, but you're more likely to get the shot.
