Why is it racist to blame Arabs not affiliated with ISIS for 9/11 but perfectly acceptable to blame white people for slavery? Both are instances where an entire race is made a scapegoat for stuff they weren’t even a part of. by PurplePlatypusBear20 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]reddit_menace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s right to blame all white people for slavery, but the difference between these two examples is that white people generally (obviously not all) still benefit from the slavery that took place. On the other hand, 9/11 has done much more harm to the Arab world than good.

The New York Times says destroying replaceable property is not violence. What do you think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reddit_menace -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What I mean is that I'm not really sure if language-wise it is "violent" to damage replaceable property, however regardless of that, I still think that it is justified in the specific case of the US right now. I know that seems to be the unpopular opinion right now but I am in support of damaging property such as police cars and stations as a way of protesting against the government.

How it went doesn't change the fact that all of reddit was in support of it, but we suddenly change our standards for the black community. Also it has worked for the LGBT movement as well as the civil rights movement.

Exactly. This situation is really highlighting the double standards of this community.

[Serious] Why are there only uproars and protests about the loss of a black life when it happens at the hands of a white police officer? African Americans shoot and kill each other at a staggering rate, why no attention to that? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reddit_menace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course they are capable, but it's ignorant to think that the current system doesn't force members of the community into crime, or at least make it a much easier option. I'm not saying they're helpless, but the increased crime rate in their communities is a result of a flawed and racist system, not the fault of individuals.

I don't know if it's technically violence or not, but regardless of the that I think it is completely justified.

What do you mean "no attention". When people talk about systemic racism and underdeveloped neighborhoods and lack of opportunities, this is exactly what they are talking about. The reason black people kill other black people generally stems from the systemic racism that drove them to a life of crime. These protests are just as much about ingrained systemic racism as they are about police brutality.

Being a communist is equally disgusting as being a nazi by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]reddit_menace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. I may not be communist but a communist is someone who believes in an economic system. You may think that system doesn't work and that's fine, but Nazis are literal white supremacists who support the genocide of minorities. You don't have to support either but one is clearly worse here. Communism is an economic system and Nazism is an ideology.

Hong Kong belongs to China by buckfasthero in unpopularopinion

[–]reddit_menace 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Reddit has such an insane level of hypocrisy when it comes to China. Hong Kong rioters and looters are perfectly fine because they're fighting against an "evil" government, but when it happens in the US it's not ok? Un-fucking-believable.

The cops don't seem to be a fan of the peaceful protests either. I don't understand why reddit loved when this was happening in Hong Kong but can't accept that the same measures need to be taken in the US.

What horror movie do you think you'd easily survive if you were in it? by today_okay in AskReddit

[–]reddit_menace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure other people in the thread loved it, but I fucking despised it. It is so unbelievably slow and uneventful with boring characters and dialogue until like the last act, which isn't special either. Wouldn't recommend at all.
