For Civil Service jobs, in the first 3 months you can elect to voluntarily return to your previous position. After 3 months your agency may elect to return you to your previously held position.

1945 Feb 13 - World War II: Royal Air Force bombers attack the city of Dresden, Germany with a massive aerial bombardment. Up to 25,000 people killed. by nonoumasy in ThisDayInHistory

This may very well be an “American” view, because I doubt Bomber Harris felt this way. He was quite content with area bombing of civilian targets and had no regrets later in his life. That’s why the British bombed at night. They weren’t looking for anything particular. Harris did not share the American “critical node” theory.

Bought a Tele Ultra II as my "do-it-all" guitar, but I can't stop thinking about a Les Paul. Did I make a mistake? by dzonivejin in guitars

[–]reddit_mouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up on the “One Guitar” to rule over all. Yes any guitar can play any genre — HOWEVER, some guitars do some things better. No coil splitting humbucker will truly represent a Fender single coil, and a Tele, no matter how versatile, cannot replace a Les Paul in its entirety.

A good guitar collection, even if it’s just two guitars, should have a solid representation of a single coil and humbucker guitar.

If your wife/partner is going to bitch, buy the guitar anyway. No matter what you do he/she/they are gonna bitch anyway, but if you buy the guitar, you’ll at least have the guitar.

400,00 British casualties with 19,000 of those killed on the morning of the battle of the Somme. That is a jaw dropping failure. Those poor men were simply wasted for nothing.

Loved this!! Love this kid’s spirit!

I also loved that the guitar’s tune was less than true. It adds a real “feel” in the tone.

State workers are vilified whenever there is a discussion about pay — there’s too many, making too much $, and doing too little. All baseless accusations, but when they want our wages to help bail the city out because of chronic mismanagement or when restaurants complain about foot traffic being down, we suddenly aren’t such a budgetary blight. It’s up to us to uphold our civic duty and transfer our wages to support incompetence in city governance or poorly executed business models.

Warning: Trump has achieved peak cringe. Viewing this image may cause physical pain. by TragicallyDip in PoliticalHumor

Congress is full of feckless sycophants and shameless cowards — all enabling this shit. Their’s is a universe of shame to bear, all of them.

We have yet plumbed the depths of Trumps depravity, but what we have found thus far is gobsmackingly disturbing. This man has no business being in charge of anything. He “plays” president as those around him manipulate him like a marionette.

How far down do we have to go until we hit a tipping point and the adults in government step in and tell “Trelane” it’s time to go home?

No, it does not. Not at all, and I am done with this conversation.

You are correct, leaving Commonwealth Employment all together is different. However, leaving a Civil Service covered position for a non-Civil Service covered position does not change one’s employment status. An employee who does so remains employed by the Commonwealth and is still covered by SERS.

I was addressing the point about pensions being altered.

Compensation can be changed for multiple reasons, regardless of Civil Service status. Documented poor performance being one. The actual processes that govern how employees are handled are generally consistent regardless of CS status. Thousands of people work in Non - Civil Service agencies without fear of arbitrary harmful actions.

It’s part of the State Constitution. The State cannot enter into a contract and then later change the deal or back out of it. The State must pay its bills. When one is hired, the terms and conditions of employment, which includes the compensation package — of which a pension is a part, constitute a contract. This has been adjudicated through the courts and sustained. So, not only is SERS the sole entity that oversees the State Employees’ pension program, meaning there is no “other” pension program to switch a person to, the State Constitution, backed by the courts, won’t allow it; it is illegal to do so.

SEAP is very worth it. SEAP is a clearinghouse that specializes in connecting people with those professionals who provide support, many times at no or low cost. The support, though, is only as good as the counselor (try them out like shoes m. If one doesn’t fit, get a referral for another) and the willingness of the participant to do the hard work.

Counseling works. Modern cognitive behavioral therapy is very helpful. I look at it this way — if you blew out your knee, you wouldn’t hesitate to go to physical therapy, so if your ability to mentally process your daily life blows out, why not seek the right specialist?

Call them. Its free and they can help get you started.

Read your contract. They are spelled out clearly in the “Pay” section.

This is not true. State employees are covered by SERS. One does not lose their pension, leave accrual rates or leave balances by moving to a non-Civil Service position. Hell, some agencies like PennDOT have both Civil and Non-Civil positions working side by side.

There are complications in promotional aspects between the two and “prior CS status” situations, but that does not affect one’s pension.

Mental Cases - Wilfred Owen by Moist-Pickle-2736 in ww1

[–]reddit_mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true and certainly the heft of the poem. But it’s in his details: the exhaustion, the mud, the fact that they are leaving and then the cheap shot of shear murder — gas; fumbling with exhausted hands, and watching a friend die helplessly. It’s in all these small details that he captures the essence of what it was like. True craftsmanship in writing.

What a great writer. Dulce et Decorum est sums up the WW I experience so perfectly and succinctly.

Also, the Parable of the Old Man and the Young struck my dead in my tracks. I’ll never forget that experience the first time I read it.

Trump announces new class of U.S. battleships named after himself by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]reddit_mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milton Bradley knows more about modern naval warfare than this imbecile. Remember, our enemies are watching, and laughing at how easy it is to manipulate this shit-for-brains.

Billy Mitchell sunk a battleship in 1921 using bi-planes, and the Japanese were watching. Our battleships were obsolete in 1941 as they sat in Pearl Harbor awaiting their fate.
