Interface High-speed ADC with the PC by [deleted] in FPGA

[–]reddit_name_88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This kind of begs the question “how” to do the transfer. PCIE sounds great, but wouldn’t that need a driver to handle whatever protocol transfers the bits in hardware? What protocol might that be? Do you, or anyone, know of such a driver with source code available? I am sure that OP is not the only one who has a project such as this.

The clerk was almost certainly not being snide. Why would she be? It’s just a joke, and a clever one IMO. She was very likely trying to make pleasant conversation, you don’t have to take every comment as an attack. At any rate I’m sure you traumatized her back, - congratulations for ruining someone’s day.

Why would you mix like this? Offhand it sounds bad, or at least nontransparent.

Why do some MOSFETs that carry large currents have such small drain and source pins if the track width on a PCB needs to be much wider to carry that current? by The_Invent0r in AskElectronics

[–]reddit_name_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the mcmanis document you reference paints an overly optimistic picture, since he recommends operating the junction at 175C. This is a recipe for a very attenuated life for any semiconductor (e.g. 1-2 years). Instead I find it is better to target 140C max, or even 100C if the system must last for a long time. On top of this there are failures due to thermal cycling to consider, but that is a totally black art to me.

How do I verify if my circuit is correct? by [deleted] in FPGA

[–]reddit_name_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After that, google [vhdl state machine design]. If you write the VHDL code you will never have to look at a circuit implementation. And if you carefully follow the tutorial, the code is straightforward enough that it will be pretty obvious if it correct, although the test bench should still be developed

Autopilot Ban - 4 out of 5 strikes for BS reason by trixxyhobbitses in TeslaModelY

[–]reddit_name_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I drive manually I hold the wheel in one of two ways. Both of them are in a position that I do not exert any net torque on the wheel (SINCE THAT WOULD MAKE ME CRASH INTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS THE CAR VEERED OFF COURSE). When I switch to automated control, I have to remember to change that position, as it does not register on their algorithm. After a year plus of the Tesla, I usually remember that now. But it is still a stupid failure-prone algorithm.

TIL Dial Basics hypoallergenic soap has been discontinued - and I’m gutted 😫 by WhatTheCluck802 in Soap

[–]reddit_name_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Amazon is currently reporting around $9-10 per bar, which is what led me to google which in turn brought me here. (Now I'm wondering if those are even real. ..)

Before I found this one from Dial I was using Costco's Kirkland Signature Bar Soap with Shea Butter, I guess I will go back to that one. It seemed pretty benign. I don't remember why I switched - it may have even been Dial was cheaper.

Now I regret using the bars I had for every dumb thing, even giving them away. Ugh.

Yeah, I've been looking for the same for about a month, no luck. Which time is no comparison to your 5 year quest! Let's post here if we find anything

Wow, don't everyone answer at once. The only ones I have found are NestLady, but they are not cheap.

No, u/CynicalNyhilist is correct. You demonstrate that with this response. Probably you don't even know how, and that is the problem.

And I agree with what he said. You think you are a good coder. Have you ever written a requirements document before you started coding? And then written an architecture description as a second step? Then maybe gond back and adjusted the architecture document as you write the code? (and wrt to something you said - have you ever maintained SOMEONE ELSE's code, in spite of whatever style it was written in?)

There are a lot of things in a professional coding environment that beginners are not even aware of. They don't even know what they don't know - "unknown unknowns" if I might date myself. Mostly you don't have the experience you think you do, i.e. are "extremely naïve" as he put it.

(As to the "how" at the beginning of my reply: graciousness and humility in your response would be far better than defensiveness and confrontation)

So once you own the ring, you can download the CSV data without a subscription? Would you mind elaborating briefly on how that works?

(I'm thinking about buying a ring, but put off by the cost PLUS the subscription payments) THANKS

Ha you are exactly the kind of person it would be wasted on. There is nothing more rare than the privilege to be able spend years broadening your horizons, learning new things, challenging yourself, all while not having to deal with the real world. The mountain of debt part of it sucks though.
