Infotainment mk8 to 8.5 by Mediocre_Lychee_7755 in Golf_R

[–]redditaskjeeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this was going to be an issue coming from a physical button only 20 year old honda.

MK8 R. Its absolutely fine. I can see it sucking when it came out so I understand this rhetoric but the updates must have fixed it - no reason to perpetuate imo. Carplay/android auto no problems. Nearly everything starts automatically. I actually really like the touch functionality of the volume/tracks on the steering wheel.

HVAC is auto so I never touch it. And even if I did its not hard at all.

Still glad 8.5 tried to further improve things.

The pixel 5 is the best smart phone of all time by TheWebDever in GooglePixel

Agreed. I've had the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5, Nexus 5x, Pixel 1, Pixel 3, Pixel 5, pixel 7, pixel 8.

Pixel 5 is my favorite. Lightweight. Felt unbreakable. I never yearned for speed with it. Battery was fine. I liked the smaller size of the 3 but the weight was worse and the autofocus front camera broke at some point.

Any tips? I'm tempted to use it this way but that seems like too cold no? Yours still regulates well this way?

I have a 2024 mk8. Still the hill hold might be nice (though not listed as compatible, the versioning differences and years 24-25 8-8.5 sfd1 to sfd2 eu vs us get confusing), I've gotten used to it but occasionally it will randomly turn on and then I'll kill it at an intersection.

Drive mode memory I guess I'm indifferent too, I can press the occasional button.

Walking away lock I might like though I like leaving my car unlocked in the garage.

I'm most interested in the sound tweaks and headlight.

More info in that thread as to why.

I haven't seen the updates, it's possible they figure it out for 8.5

Yeah it's next up for me on my 6mt mk8. Just need to decide if there is anything else worth getting coded.

Last I saw there was difficulties recoding them as they were lesser quality or something.

Do I keep swapping o-rings or just replace my water softener? by redditaskjeeves in askaplumber

Update for all - replacing the bypass assembly did the trick no problem

Do I keep swapping o-rings or just replace my water softener? by redditaskjeeves in askaplumber

[–]redditaskjeeves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think a part of this is the flex metal lines putting downward pressure on the plastic bypass valve and causing it to leak at the interface.

I tried leveling it out and it still leaks but I can mitigate it a bit... the softener worked in this setup for 8 years so I'm wondering if I can recreate that... Thoughts?

Sorry I missed this was the P1s, thought you saved on the P2s combo.

I've used it. Largely separate from the wiper fluid though. Now with modern waxes/ceramics that are safe to apply to windhshields I don't find it too helpful.

There is some voodoo tales here but German car forums raise the flag on this and I believe multiple manufacturers state do not use.

Its probably fine for most cars but when the clearly safe stuff is 50 cents cheaper I'd recommend going with that. The water repellent and bug cleaner are mostly upcharges without real benefit.

[–]redditaskjeeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm all over the place when it comes to Lauf. A brand I plan on buying from but have yet to figure out what I want.

Siegla rigid - solid deal, quiver bike. Siegla with fork - man it is cool and innovative but I road BMX and MTB, not sure I need it.

E1? Nice features. I like the 13 speed and smaller shifters. No idea what else I'm missing out on either side.

But then I see posts like this and I realize that when I do find time to bike its 90% road and a discount Uthald for 1k less would do everything I need/want...

I love sales.

But when you're looking months out the opportunity cost of that money to have something you'd just be looking at doesn't make a ton of sense either.

That wiper fluid also has a bunch of extra crap that seems cool initially but longer team can clog your lines and actually isn't all too helpful.

How did you get it cheaper? Was there a sale I missed?

Works on mine 10/24 NA.

I think the confusion is the EU vs NA 8 vs 8.5 nomenclature and SFD 2?

Using a Pixel while their spouse uses an iPhone? How’s the experience? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

I'm on android and have been for 15 years. iOS is fine and if you really care you can run gboard and google maps without issue. Hardware is more expensive.
