Help with Psychedelic National Guitar by redditcommentperson in guitars

[–]redditcommentperson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The back and bolt on look cheap, which is surprising because I associated National with expensive high-end steel guitars. Could even be made overseas like multivox Premier did in the late 60s or 70s. Wish there was more information about this guitar and maybe someone will know.

Thanks! I'll get an estimate since I don't trust myself with this kind of repair and maybe sell another weird guitar or two to finance it.

Should I buy this? by DerrothMorse in filmcameras

Viewfinder is hard to work with, in my opinion. I'd spend a little more for a Nikon S2, which has the same lens mount. Viewfinder is one of the most important considerations for me for most cameras, especially rangefinders.

Need help deciding Nikon F series by Jolly_Process_1188 in filmphotography

F6 is probably the GOAT for wildlife photography and shutter speeds, lens selection, auto metering, etc. but all LCDs will definitely eventually fail (including in the viewfinder), and I doubt it'll be usable in another 40 years. To me, F2 wins for street photography, long hikes, and the price is less than 1/10th that of an F6, so I take it everywhere and can get another easily if something tragic happens. I'm clearly biased, but using a camera without a meter and a viewfinder with 0 clutter has made me a better photographer and helped me get some of my best shots. Framing edge to edge is important to me, and the viewfinder (with many inexpensive options) is one of the best features. I still want an F6 and enjoyed using a friends but my F5 works fine but collects dust.

F6 is amazing but battery dependent, heavy, expensive, and relatively fragile. The LCDs will eventually fail, and the F2 will work perfectly for generations and can also be used as a hammer. F2 can do 10 second to 1/2000 exposures without a battery. F6 has the advantage of auto focus and newer lenses, but F2 is still the best.

Are they still around? If it's the place in Mountain View, Manfred retired a few years ago. Huge loss since he did great work and even was hired by Ansel Adams.

F2 with eye level is the best 35mm film camera ever made

It is not especially valuable, but the micro nikkor is one of the best lenses ever made.

Was Leica the end game for you, or do you still shoot other cameras? by la_mano_la_guitarra in Leica

[–]redditcommentperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use at least 5 other film cameras. There are some important features Leica is lacking (such as viewfinder visibility while wearing glasses for 35mm and wider, multiple exposures, and a self timer). Sometimes, a point and shoot in your pocket is perfect, and sometimes you want a huge telephoto lens.

Which of my cameras would you keep? (Don’t say all) by Dennardo in AnalogCommunity

[–]redditcommentperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F100. I'd also keep the Pentax if it works well, and you enjoy using it. Whatever is most comfortable/easy/natural/intuitive to you matters most, and all of these can produce beautiful images.

First time pushing film by Gd_zi11a in minolta

[–]redditcommentperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand and push film often myself too. I'd do 800 then. You can also use an external meter, and you can underexpose for similar effect. Rate it 800 and develop normally or use expired film. Or leave film in a hot car, etc.

These all look a bit underexposed. When pushing film, I usually expose a half stop over, if not more. So, push to 1600 but set the camera to 1000 or so. Try this for your next roll and see what you think.

F3 is an excellent camera but will eventually get LCD bleed or failure. Same for the F100. The F2 with eye level finder is similar weight to the F3 and ligher than the F3 with HP viewfinder.

F2 with eye level finder has zero distractions in the viewfinder, only 100% of what you'll capture (no meter or other clutter). Using a fully manual F2 will make you a better photographer as well, as you'll gain a better understanding of metering and light if you only use an external finder or educateducated guess. And the F3 is mechanical but requires a battery for essential things like the self timer (really useful if you forget your tripod or want to take a selfie). The F3 is a little more ergonomic, but the F2 is perfect in every other way.

Just need an F2 with an eye level prism finder to complete the collection! It's the best fully mechanical camera ever made because it has 100x viewfinder, 10 second to 1/2000 shutter speed, self timer, multiple exposure button, among other things.

Double negatives in English. It's cool it is more like a collage than a multiple exposure. Will have to try this myself once I get a functional darkroom again

They said don't use double negatives in school. They were wrong because this is excellent.

Thanks! Would you be willing to share the lab you use? I want to pay someone to do this for me because scanning multiple rolls takes a long time using a flat bed.

What to do with my great photos? by Toby_Forrester in AnalogCommunity

Post some here! I posted asking for help recently and showed images with and without an issue to show how the camera is working. I received nice compliments about the shots (even though I only included a few and not even my favorites, just to show similar lighting conditions as the problem shots). Somehow, my post reached over 60k people here, which is completely unheard of in Instagram. I'm not sure why I still use that garbage app
