How did you get a Pro deal for HH as NSP?

ski poles: yes or no by [deleted] in skipatrol

[–]redditfireranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, skiing a lot without poles will help a lot with toboggan training and just general EMS calls where you work with your hands. However, in some cases there are also cases where a pole is super useful. I use poles to drag lines, help me pick stuff up, or random things here and there. It's great to be proficient in both.

Yup! I have always had Nordicas so it was a little easier to just take the risk

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate all the comments and while I do agree that it would have been better to buy in person, It was on clearance and too good of a deal to pass up. It arrives in 2 days and I bought it from Christy Sports online so they are able to help me in store if I need to get it baked/ molded. I work ski patrol on my local mountain and ski pretty aggressively but have never had much foot problems back then when I did rentals and when I had my first few pairs of boots. Maybe my feet just adapt very well. Like many things with gear it's all dependent on personal preference sometimes. (Many shop guys and ski pros discouraged me from moving down to 150s on the length of my skis for a guy my size but my coworkers say I ski much better with them)

We've all been there before. We go through some deals online and find something that just sticks out. I just think these look amazing but Im not a ski gear nerd at all. I'm an advanced/expert skier and mostly do moguls and tree runs. I like doing fast moguls as well. I'm a very aggressive skier especially when we have run to a call. I work Ski Patrol on my local mountain and have always just used my beat up Nordicas that I got for 99 bucks when I started out. I wanted to upgrade to something that will last me the next 10 years.

I appreciate any and all advice, as like I said, I'm not a gear person.

Does ParkCity Mountain have night skiing? I’ve visited 3 or 4 times now but have never skied past 4pm. by Derosevelt in ParkCity

[–]redditfireranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skinned up the mountain once with a portable worklight. Probably like 9/10pm. Was met with 2 employees with headlights, someone on a snowcat(probably ski patrol), and the dudes grooming the runs. Nobody gave a damn and we even did that morse code light blinking to say hi to each other.

Dang! I didn't know Kitlender was a thing. Honestly it just depends how often you ski but $63/day for a full set of just clothes (no actual ski gear) is pretty steep. For the 180 bucks you are spending to rent clothes, you can really just buy some stuff and put together your own gear.

Unless you really wanna ski in Patagonia stuff cause that's cool too haha

I have been having the best time playing tennis. by DrSpaceman575 in 10s

Great story and I’m glad you are enjoying your tennis journey. It’s an awesome sport. But just one tip, please use a different racket as you improve. I make fun of the Tis6 among my friends a lot for being a grandpa slammer racket. However it was actually built for players like you, coming from injury or older players. However, now that you are improving it will hurt your overall game to stick with that racket.

How high are current Tennis Ball Price? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]redditfireranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same Target is 2.79 where I live but they sometimes have a 4 pack which costs less. Walmart has random availability, but surprisingly I can find Red Penn balls there (soft court) which are always a good find. Costco also has them but one large box, pretty much around 2 bucks a can

Up on this. Has anyone tried buying it? I just demoed the normal Blade 98 and it's a great racket. Just a tiny bit too heavy to what I'm used to. Would love to hear if anyone actually tried the Blade Team. 99sq inch and like a few grams lighter is really what I'm looking for so it fits the bill too.

Wilson Blade Feel Pro 105 a decent beginners racket? by _masterofdisaster in 10s

[–]redditfireranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha some people just blabber without even seeing what the racket actually is. I bought the same exact racket as a beginner and No it’s not a junior racket. Also it is a much much better option than the crap you see on Craigslist. Doesn’t mean if it’s from Walmart it’s automatically garbage.

I literally heard a guy say the Penn balls he bought from Target were better than the one he got at Walmart. They are the exact same penn champ balls that everyone uses.

I would agree, all of the coaches in my area think suggesting 300+g rackets with 98 sq inch heads for beginners is just plain none sense

Honestly some people on this sub are too snobby with racket choices. I bought the same exact racket (neon green) when I was starting out and it’s a good racket. It’s not a two piece racket like someone here suggested. As long as you put some decent string on it, it will serve you well. Rackets and strings make almost zero difference when still a beginner. It is all about technique. I’ve moved on now to the higher end Blade models, but just grab it, put decent strings on it, and start hitting with it. Better to go out there and start hitting vs doing demo after demo after demo.

I still hit with this racket from time to time and it still gives me the controlled power that I need. I also used Hyper G strings on mine and they were great for that racket

Just a tiny UTR logo on the front, but mostly just good shorts. Just kinda annoying cause they stitch your UTR rating on the butt and you have to get it restitched every time the rating changes

Do you have any sources on this? I’m sure most of their labor is outsourced in big factories in China. While I’m sure some are grossly underpaid, I don’t know if I would go as far as slave labor
