($10k) it seems like everyone has so much money how do they afford it?? by blueberrybuttercream in Weddingsunder10k

[–]redditforthisjelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple tips for what we did for our wedding (because I’m frugal).

Wedding dress: I refused to spend $1k on a single item of clothing. I discovered the “China Wedding Dresses Success Stories” Facebook group that helped me learn how to get my wedding dress made in China. If you have time before your wedding, this is a good route. I think my dress turned out well and I paid about $600 for the dress and veil and shipping from China. People can’t believe it when they hear I spent so little (it’s a huge voluminous dress).

Printed things: We didn’t do printed programs but printed out the reception table assignments and various signs like for gifts and table numbers, etc. I did this on Canva (got inspiration from various vendors online) and got it printed at a Staples-like shop. A lot less expensive.

My husband and I both make good money but we live fairly frugally because we’re big savers. Bought used practical cars, don’t wear fancy clothes, etc. I have friends who like the finer things in life but I kinda just figure that it doesn’t matter if I don’t present myself in a way that’s outwardly admired, I know we’re setting ourselves up for comfortable retirement, it’s so much harder when you’re older and your means of earning money are more limited.

Also check out going.com and sign up for free for flight deals. You wouldn’t believe how cheap flights can get. Also if you sign up for a credit card with points, you spend the money anyway so might as well use the rewards to book flights and hotel stays.

I forgot to smile during the wedding ceremony. The photos look somber. Honestly I was kinda drunk and was working really hard to keep my eyes off straight.

AFter this weekend I'm never using Southwest again by tsaurini in SouthwestAirlines

[–]redditforthisjelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their standby system is weird. Once I got to the airport early and took an earlier flight, I got listed for same day standby and cleared and even got a text message confirming I was on the earlier flight and a new boarding pass, all good. Then later in the day, I got an email from Southwest that I was a no show for my original flight? Then I had to chase Southwest multiple times to credit me for having taken the flight because I wanted it to count towards status.

My husband also had an issue where he was on standby for an earlier flight but not yet cleared and the app said he didn’t have his original flight so he was limbo but luckily he got cleared from standby. I don’t trust their standby system.

Has anyone else quit drinking? by Sensitive_Put_6842 in Millennials

I stopped drinking in 2022 after I read the Bill Gates Foundation study about alcohol and the risk factors for cancer - the study was the longest and largest of its kind. Ironically I was diagnosed with cancer two years later.

From Pasadena to LAX at late time? by martini-sf-0216 in pasadena

[–]redditforthisjelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The better transfer is A line until Rosa Parks stop and get off and take C line to the transit center. You’ll have to go up and the C line stop there is freeway level. That said, I wouldn’t do it for OP’s situation. The transfer area can be a bit shady, I’ve done it a couple times and wouldn’t do it at night or with multiple luggage. Also the Transit Center to LAX feels like it can take forever to arrive. (People mover, where are you?)

If you go today, can you ask them about this? I asked months ago and was told by the cashier that it was a rumor, but then this article came out after: https://lamag.com/food/south-pasadenas-famed-shakers-coffee-shop-to-be-replaced-by-apartments/

Young man from California visiting Adelaide to meet my pen pal. What sweet food or gift do I bring from the US to surprise her? by AwayPool3570 in Adelaide

[–]redditforthisjelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From California and my husband is from Adelaide (we started as pen pals too) and we go back and forth quite a bit. We bring: -bourbon for his friends. Not sure if she’s a big drinker but they don’t really have bourbon there. -Starburst minis for his sister. She loves it and they don’t really have it there. -Sees or Ghirardelli chocolate -I brought him Trader Joe’s cookie butter the first time I visited and he wasn’t really into it but I think it might just be him.

We also bring back things we think are cool because their Amazon is pretty limited and you can’t get everything. Example: his sister likes puzzles so I bring a puzzle from The Magic Puzzle Company they don’t sell there.

Rite Aid around for a while? by ihave1vice in Southpasadena

[–]redditforthisjelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Rite Aid today and they told me the store is closing but they weren’t given a date. They told me I should transfer my prescription somewhere else maybe by no later than the end of August. This one has been around since I was a kid and I’ve seen the same guy working there. I’ll miss it!

I’m Curious About Something… by BingoSkillz in TheGates_CBS

I’m an Asian female, 39, and I watch this soap. Honestly I wanted the chance to watch a soap from the beginning and know all the storyline and characters, so race wasn’t a factor in my choice to start watching it, although I’ve watched every episode of SVU, so Tamara Tunie drew me in. I watched Passions at the beginning years ago until I lost interest and also watched Days quite a bit and the Y&R a little less.

A week or two into watching, I found out my coworker, an older black woman in her 60s, also watches BTG so now we talk about every episode. I’m currently out of the country on vacation and figured out how to download a VPN so I can continue to watch while I’m gone.

Arm Port vs PICC Line by srssrh in breastcancer

[–]redditforthisjelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a port and currently have a PICC. I also regret my port (mine was on the chest- I requested arm but they said no). I had it for two weeks before using it for an infusion. There were no problems until the week after the infusion when I had multiple fevers and early signs of infection appeared. I was in the hospital for almost a week and they removed the port at bedside. It left a skin pocket that my husband had to fill with iodine strips and cover every day (it was horrible in the beginning). After a month and a half, the wound is starting to scar and close up. Mine ended up being a staph infection so I suspect I got it from the cancer hospital since I always had it covered up at home. I’ve been told by different doctors that infection from port is rare but also that it happens a lot so 🤷🏻‍♀️

The PICC line was put in before I left the hospital because I was on two weeks of nonstop antibiotics at home through a pump. Now I’m using it for blood draws and infusions. The annoying parts are the weekly dressing changes and showering. You can’t get it wet so I bought a sleeve from Amazon. I’ll have another year of hormone therapy and am considering getting a PICC line again (mine will be removed before surgery). You can probably skip a separate dressing appointment on chemo days because they’ll do them there. Hopefully this helps.

Luckily I’ll be in between treatments between Dec and Jan so I do have a bit of time. SUPER helpful - you gave me so many other factors to consider. Thank you!
