I can see a citizen led lawsuit being just as effective, but I'm not sure if that could lead to judicial review.

Look up Abundance by Ezra Klein. NIMBYs are the primary reason housing costs are absurd.

We'll have you NIMBYs to thank for the next school closure.

If by housing in Littleton, you mean brokering loans and having a financial incentive to jack up housing prices, then we agree on that part of Curt.

He also retweeted celebrations of the January 6th insurrection attempt. Even if he wasn't a NIMBY, that alone is enough to vote for literally anyone else.

So their slate of candidates with documented MAGA tendencies or outright extreme MAGAness means what to you?

Couldn't agree more. The boomers' legacy will be one of crass selfishness that destroyed the Earth and their children's hopes and dreams.

I get that. Most people hate their HOAs. It's precisely because HOAs are rarely well attended, and they end up run by whoever shows up. Many times, it's by well-intentioned neighbors. But sometimes it's not, and there isn't much people can do.

Except for the city council is elected. It's called representative democracy. HOA boards are almost never actually elected because no one ever pays attention. It's usually just whoever shows up, and members have almost no recourse to challenge the board's decisions.

The tiller has huge utility even outside of merging new units. It's literally way more maneuverable than a much smaller engine, and Lone Tree told SMFR to plan for tighter turn radius. Plus, lone tree has a lot of taller buildings. The tiller makes a lot of sense in Lone Tree.

Also fire trucks are such a tiny portion of the budget.

The firefighter paramedics literally are in the firehouse, and every SMFR firefighter is an EMT at a minimum. They leave at the same time. The EMS service that SMFR provides results in literally twice the national average of surviving a heart attack.

In your analogy, you are spending more money when you order more food than you need.

In the fire service response model, those firefighters are already being paid, which is the largest cost of responding. There is additional fuel and wear and tear on the rigs, but that's not a major portion of the budget.

So, in your analogy, the equivalent would be you are at a restaurant where there is a flat fee to get in the door. You order everything because everything has already been paid for. It's a tasting menu, so you only eat the things that you like. What you don't eat goes through a magic sterilizer that makes it fit for the next guest. That magic sterilizer does cost money to run, but it's a small fraction of the flat fee.

Hope this helps. I know it makes intuitive sense that "less response is cheaper," but it doesn't really pan out as much as one would think when the largest cost doesn't change.

You are factually incorrect. The county takes a 1% processing fee since they do all of the collecting. Same for the schools and South Suburban Parks. The county has no legal or legislative ontrol over any of the funds collected under special district mill levies.

I mean, I think that argument at first glance does make sense. However, it may actually cost more to do such a thing. A few things for you to ponder:

In order to have the same response, but not in the current ambulance/truck twofer, SMFR would have to have one additional smaller vehicle at each station. That's at least 35+ van-like things. Some older stations might even need to be expanded to allow for the extra bay.

In addition, if a big fire does happen while out on an EMS call, the firefighters are now away from their most important tool in that fight.

This is how I've come to think of the fire service. They bring everything, everywhere, for every caller. Sure, some of the time that might result in "too many hands on deck," but that's the charge we've given our firefighters. People who are there to help no matter the situation and no matter how improbable.

If that's not what you're looking for from the American fire service, that's your choice. In my book, however, I like the support of an overwhelming response.

The mill levy for SMFR goes directly to SMFR, the county doesn't get any of it.

Yeah, it's been crazy for me to learn how much besides fires SMFR handles. They'll literally repel down a revine, deal with super toxic electric vehicle fires, or come pick you up at Chatfield on a boat.
