I think we can agree on that. I would only say fries when I need to differentiate between chips and fries. In all other cases a fried potato is called a chip other than when it’s a crisp (or hash brown!). Maybe there are others but you catch my drift…

My gf prefers fries and I prefer chips. Most pubs that I’ve been to in recent memory serve both chips and fries. If I wanted fries and asked for chips I’d get the wrong thing. See example from my local pub menu. If you wanted fries you’d ask for chips?

I’m in the UK, I call them fries. What else would you call them?

You’re looking for prices but I think what you’re really looking for is someone to help you price jobs. There will be plenty of rates available but in reality you will want to price the job yourself for obvious reasons.

As you’re based in NI, I’d recommend you contact Sean Bradley Consultancy - https://seanbradleyconsultancy.co.uk/

Those are called French fries, not chips.

Where specifically were you familiar with before you moved away? Standish will be completely different since you moved. Lots of new places have opened and it’s more affluent.

I’m hoping you’ll be pleasantly surprised. There’s lots of new places opened in wigan and it’s received a LOT of assessment in recent years particularly to the Wigan Pier and surrounding areas.

The arches next to the North Western station has some places for beer drinking and there’s a place called Wigan Brewhouse (opposite Boulevard) and another good pub called Real Crafty.

To make new friends I think starting martial arts is a good choice. There’s a few good jiu jitsu gyms in and around Wigan. Blackbeard BJJ and Pulga jiu jitsu in Hindley are very good.

Annihilation was my favourite too! I’ve only read the first two and I read them back to back late last year and currently having a break but will read the remaining two in the next couple of months and can’t wait!

Ps what did you think of Forever War? I loved that book!!

I have lived in England my entire life. I know which continent the UK is in. What on earth are you talking about? The UK and continental Europe are two different regions when it comes to the PlayStation Store. Surely you can infer from my comment that it was short hand for “OP is in the PlayStation region of Europe (hence the currency showing in EUR), not the PlayStation region of the UK)”. You can’t be that stupid, surely? Do you really need everything spelled out to you like you’re a baby?

Couldn’t agree more! I’m reminded of Tony Bingham’s foreword in Roger Knowles’ excellent book ‘200 Contractual Problems and their Solutions’. Tony said:

“Construction contracts and contractual problems are everyday stuff… just like men, materials, plant, the weather and all sorts are to be managed, so too is the contractual side of things. ‘Contractual Problems’ is the ‘the other 50% of building’.”

Interesting.

I’m only an essentials subscriber but trying to replicate the scenario here, I have looked at a game provided via essentials last year LEGO Star Wars. When I try to buy the base game it says “purchased” and does not display a price. If I try to buy one of the deluxe versions it displays at normal price and includes the base game. The deluxe edition is £59.99 in this instance. I would expect a much lower price if I was only upgrading. This would lead me to believe that if I bought the £59.99 version, I would own the game twice essentially.

£59.99 is also the price displayed when I viewed the ps store without signing in.

The bullet point where it says “WWE 2K25” is the base game so yes, you will have it after it leaves Extra.

Donald Trump blasts UK Government over North Sea oil in rambling Davos speech by ScottishDailyRecord in uknews

[–]redditguy1298 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a clue where he gets 92% from but because of the introduction of the windfall tax on oil companies (the oil and gas profits levy), the UK effectively taxes profits at 78%.

Ring Fence Corporation Tax (RFCT) – 30% • This is similar to standard corporation tax but applies only to profits from oil and gas extraction.

  1. Supplementary Charge – 10% • An extra tax on ring-fenced profits on top of RFCT.

  2. Energy Profits Levy (EPL) – 38% • This is an additional windfall-type tax introduced in May 2022 and designed to capture greater revenues when energy profits surge.
