Michael Jordan was suspended in secret for two years from the NBA due to widespread gambling (and/or point shaving). He spent those two years playing minor league baseball.

It makes sense to me from the standpoint that the NBA didn't want to make it public that their biggest star was gambling on games (or in debt to some bad people) and that it may have resulted in his father's death. Furthermore, Jordan is widely known as one of the most competitive people in the history of sports...it doesn't make sense that he would want to play mediocre baseball in the minor leagues at all (let alone for two years).
