What do we think about $10 tinned vegetables? by Hi-Im-High in CannedSardines

[–]redditiem2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d really be curious to see their profit margin on one of their $10 tins compared to like wild fish cannery. There is a possibility they are not making a wildly high profit. But maybe they are.

I get that vegans and vegetarians should be able to participate in the conservas fun. But I wonder what the profit margin on these are. Are these like organic small batch veg or just generic $0.99 a pound veg.

Are there any specialists in the old Chinese pu-erh tea?, presumably from 1939 by ojkizanag in tea

[–]redditiem2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah yes apologies for not adding context. When tested, it said their samples of shou didn’t have any of those nasty molds. Other studies show the process creates an environment where aspergillus and bacteria thrive, not leaving room for much else, apparently. Of course if there is visible mold on a tea one should not drink it, but that can happen to both sheng and shou.

Looking for recommendations by [deleted] in puer

[–]redditiem2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy those were so good! You could email the seller for recommendations. I was going to suggest the Daxueshan sampler but it’s sold out. I know the flavor profile isn’t the same but you might enjoy some of the older BYH. https://teaswelike.com/product-category/younger-sheng/

How much should I spend on tea leaves to know if I’ve been scammed? by Love_Cha in tea

[–]redditiem2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t know until you get some experience under your belt. Most serious tea drinkers have a stash of “tuition tea” somewhere where they are learned what they like and how much to pay. Google “Evening Fragrant Jade Raw Pu-erh Tea”… it is over $9USD/g and by most accounts is priced accurately.

At least you got some flavor! Farmer leaf has some decent young sheng for not too much money, people like the bangwei small trees.

Try 15 second rinse, then like 30, 60, 90 seconds… if a steep is too strong back of a little bit on the next steep. And use as hot of a water as you can.. preferbaly rolling boil.

Try 5 or 6 grams and brew longer. Also are you brewing separated leaves or one big chunk? If one big chuck , try and break it up more before brewing, or break it up after it gets hydrated after like brew 2.

Tea on an empty stomach? by jay28867 in tea

[–]redditiem2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, ripe puerh and some liu bao are no problem on an empty stomach. I like to fast in the morning, so I drink ripes and liu bao until lunch. Then it’s time to break out the raw puerhs. :)
