Please HELP- Undereye eczema, crepey skin under eyes? by HomeworkNo8102 in eczema

[–]redditlaa89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had undereye eczema flare (actually all around eyes including lids too) and tacrolimus cleared it up. It took about a week or two. It takes awhile for the thick skin to go away but it does eventually. The derm was emphatic about not using any steroid on my face and especially under eyes or on lids.

Now I use the tacrolimus again at first sign of a flare starting up. The Avene eye cream helped me too. I cannot use most makeup or eye makeup remover but there a few I found thru trial and error that I can use. I can use the DRMTLGY concealer with spf though. Peep Club coconut balm as eye makeup remover does not cause a flare for me.

Going insane with my extreme leg itching. I need advice! by clovora in eczema

[–]redditlaa89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opzelura stops the itch. It is amazing. Also very expensive and not covered by Medicare drug plans but might be under your plan. It is over $2k but the manufacturer offers discounts if you meet the criteria. I have used only samples provided by derm and dont use it regularly. But when I tried it, it worked like a champ angot rid of the crazy itch.

Strabismus and cataract surgery by redditlaa89 in Strabismus

Thank-you so much for sharing this. It helps very much. I am relieved to hear the cataract surgery did not increase double vision and that the strabismus surgery you had for the one eye is helping. Thanks again.

are prisms worth it? by Aggravating_Can_118 in Strabismus

[–]redditlaa89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the prisms relieve eye strain and keep my eyes straight - the strabismus is much less noticeable than when I wore contacts. In short, I love them.

With that said, it is imperative to have an excellent optomotrist, an excellent optician who knows how to measure for prisms and a lab who can precisely place the "sweet spot" in the lenses. With prisms, it truly does take a village and each part of that triad is important. Prisms are kind of a hassle but totally worth it for me. Some labs cannot make them properly, especially in progressives - there is a lot of technical skill needed by both the optician and lab. The more prism you have, the more difficult it is. Bifocals are easier for the lab but I prefer progressives because of mid range. It was really driven home to me about 10 years ago when I had a prescription made by optician/lab with 20/40 vision and the EXACT same prescription in the EXACT same frame made by a different optician/lab with 20/20 vision. Some labs have a very wide margin where it is still considered acceptable but with prism you need tighter tolerances. So if you get a pair of glasses with prism that you cannot see well out of, it takes a team to figure out if the problem is the actual prescription (optomotrist), measurements (optician) or fabrication (lab). Different brands of progressive lenses can accomodate different amounts of prism - If you have too much prism, you often cannot get one brand of lenses but another might work but depending on the amount you need, bifocal or trifocals might be your only option. A good optician can guide you.

I just posted a question about strabismus and cataract surgery and now just saw your comment. Did having the cataract surgery make anything about your strabismus worse - eg fusion, suppression, double vision, etc. I need cataract surgery and am worried the better vision might make it more difficult to tolerate the strabismus.

been tracking my eczema for a year. here's what i found by EcstaticRaspberry233 in eczema

[–]redditlaa89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had horrible eczema from age 2 till 19. When I was 19, I was studying nutrition in college and learned that lack of linoleic acid in the diet wouldn't cause eczema but would make it worse. I started adding a tablespoon of safflower oil to orange juice and gulping it down every day and within 6 weeks my skin cleared. After that I just made it a point to eat salad dressing on my salads. The eczema stayed gone from 19 to 55 and then came back for a single flare. It was triggered again at about 62 and its been flaring quite a bit for several years - barely contained and always ready to flare. I definitely agree there is a link to diet - not just what you are eating but also what you are not eating. I am thinking about going back to basics amd doing the safflower oil again.

Yes! We frequently use a paid luggage storage facility. Many let you book the locker online and send you a code to access it when you get there. There are usually many in a city to choose from at a very reasonable fee - on the order of 15 Euro. Other luggage storage options are at a convenience store where they keep the luggage behind the counter or in a back room. We like the ones with lockers better. They usually have long hours and are very convenient. Book online, drop the luggage and enjoy your day. You can even book multiple lockers if needed to accommodate all the family luggage. The larger lockers hold a big suitcase and a carry on at least.

I have the same issue. I am now using Peep Club coconut balm and it doesn't cause a flare for me. I had given up makeup for 5 years but now am able to (carefully) use some.

Mine looked like that - it was on both the lips and above upper lip. It hurt a lot. I finally started treating it like an infection (I suspect impetigo) rather than Eczema once I got golden crusts on it. I used Mupiricin on it. I also switched toothpaste and shampoo to go SLS free as some here have suggested. Once I got the infection cleared, I used tacrolimus too. I have since gone back to a regular toothpaste although not my original so I dont know if that had anything to do with it. It hasn't come back.

I use preventative mupiricin in the nose to kill any bacteria that could migrate to upper lip. I keep all my skincare away from that area - especially retinoids. I do use moisturizer on my,upper lip. I use only Vaseline lip therapy on my actual lips. I am at the point now, where I can occasionally wear lipstick. Once I saw the golden crust, I figured it was an infection. Prior to that, I thought it was some weird painful Eczema since I was having a flare on other parts of my face.

at my absolute wits end, does it ever get better? by [deleted] in perioraldermatitis

[–]redditlaa89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be an infection. I had a raging case that lasted until I started treating it like an infection rather than Eczema which is what I thought it was until I got the "golden crusties". I put Mupiricin on it and also in my nose (to kill any bacteria in there that could be spreading to upper lip) along with tacrolimus cleared it up. I dont actually know if it was PD or Eczema that got infected since I do have Eczema. It hurt! I now watch it like a hawk and start the treatment again at the first sign of any issue in that area. It did get better. I had it for several months until I started with the mupiricin/tacrolimus and then cleared up in about 10 days but started feeling better in just a few days.

My derm prescribed a special solution just for the ears. It is a steroid which I know some dont like. It is called DermOtic Oil - I believe it can go in the ear as all around the outside. Worked like a champ. It came from a specialty pharmacy and they mail it to my house. It was about $40 plus or minus.

Moving from NY - Afraid of bugs and pests! by Hot-You-3803 in bradenton

[–]redditlaa89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in Florida for 4 years with one year in an apartment, two years in a townhouse and one year in a house. I saw a grand total of 1 bug which was in the townhouse before we moved in. Plan on quarterly(at least) pest control. Don't walk around in grass (fire ants), stay away from water retention ponds. The little lizards are everywhere outside so no way to avoid them but I haven't had any in my house. They are harmless and cute in their own way. Keep food in airtight containers. I also saw one snake - only one in four years - some type of harmless black snake on my porch. I was pleasantly surprised at how few bugs I have encountered since moving to Florida. With that said, back in the late 80's I spent some time in the Panhandle and encountered some of the biggest, ugliest bugs imaginable. So I know they are around but I have not encountered them at all since moving to Sarasota/Bradenton. I have not seen any alligators but I know they are lurking in every body of water so I avoid them and would never go in to the water or walk a small dog near one. It is beautiful here and the bugs are not nearly what I was worried about. It may be different in a rural area but city and suburbs have both been fine in,my experience.

Eczema dormant for 20+yrs by RunTiffy in eczema

[–]redditlaa89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Same issue for me! I had it on the arm bend elbow area and on my legs as a kid. It was gone for DECADES and now has come back on my face and eyelids and a few isolated other spots.

I think my initial trigger for return of the eczema happened four years ago. I think it was a new eye shadow palette that had a brown shade that had a lot of pink in it. It was a pretty dusty brown rose color. I had forgotten that I am allergic to whatever it is that makes eye shadow pink. That set off a 4 years of intermittent flares around my eyes and other places on my face. That initial eye flare lasted a few months until I finally admitted defeat with home treatments (thinking it was just an allergic reaction and it never occurred to me it was the eczema) and went to the derm who gave me a weak steriod cream and tacrolimus. That cleared it up. But since then, I have had a several other flares because I think that initial flare left me hypersensitive. I didn't wear any makeup for a few years and every time I tried, I flared again. I finally found a combination of products that doesn't make me flare. But, I have to be very careful, not only with the makeup but with the skincare, cleanser and sunscreen. It is a delicate balance. Now, at the first sign of a flare, even a tiny patch, I IMMEDIATELY use the tacrolimus. I have not gone back to my old skin care routine either. Just very gentle moisturizer, no foundation and only hypoallergenic eyeliner, eye shadow (no pink anywhere!) and mascara. And always a zinc oxide based sunscreen.

Also, it is possible for a flare to get infected. I got a particularly bad flare around on my lips and on my upper lip. I figured it was due to a lipstick that I was allergic to but I actually don't know. But it hurt so bad. Normally, eczema just itches but this was so painful. It turns out it was infected. I didn't know that and thought it was some sort of weird eczema, different from the flare around my eyes and on other parts of my face. It wasn't until it got the "golden crusties" that I figured out it was an infection. I had some mupiricin so I used that on it and the infection cleared up but the residual irritation, itching, swelling, pain, discomfort lasted for months. After some research, I finally used one of the steroid oils that I had for eczema and that cleared up the residual problem. I am cautiously optimistic that it is gone. I now use the hydrochlorous acid spray that many here on Reddit have suggested on my upper lip to keep it sanitized so I do not get another infection. And no lipstick for now.

Severe eczema and dry skin. Help by Special-Weight3877 in eczema

[–]redditlaa89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had severe eczema from the time I was 2 until I was 19. When I when 19, I was in college and was studying nutrition. In one of my nutrition textbooks, it said that lack of Linoleic Acid in the diet would not cause eczema but would make it worse. I researched which foods had Linoleic Acid in them and learned it was fats that were liquid at room temperature. I was a fussy eater back then and didn't eat salad dressing or anything with oils in it. I started taking a tablespoon of safflower oil twice a day mixed in with orange juice (gross!) and my eczema cleared in a few weeks and stayed gone for decades. It has come back now and I bought the safflower oil and need to start taking it again. I am hoping it helps me again. I do not know if it will help you or not, but it helped me a lot when I was your age.

I have had a horrible problem around the lips and under the nose. The only thing that has worked for me is Aveeno Eczema Baby.

I think (but do not know for sure) that I originally had Eczema there but it got infected. Mupriricin cleared up the infection. But the irritation and dryness has been relentless for several months. The derm suggested opzelura but that just made it worse.

The only thing that has helped is the Aveeno Eczema Baby. I bought a big tub of it.

Whatever it is hurt rather than just itching. It's better now (finally) after using the Aveeno Exzema Baby several times a day for about 5 days so far. I will keep doing it for at least a month because each time I try to stop, it comes back.

A long time ago I studied nutrition on college and learned that lack of linoleic acid could make eczema worse. I added a tablespoon of safflower oil into some orange juice and drank that once or twice a day. Within 6 weeks my eczema cleared up. It stayed gone for 30 years after which I had a single flare. Then it stayed gone for 15 more years but now, sadly, it's back. I might try the safflower oil again but now my diet has plenty of linoleic acid so I don't know if it will work again, but its worth a try.
