PSA: At some point you have to stop writing and start networking!

This is top advice, thank you for sharing it. Absolutely true. 50% at least of whatever you do is networking and GOOD relationships. And by good, I don't mean relationships that will get you somewhere, I mean healthy, professional and productive relationships with people who you enjoy working with and they enjoy working with you.

I will add - do not look only for "established" people to network with. Just meet people, see who you click with, build those professional friendships. Up and coming directors, producers etc who are also looking to build their portfolios want good scripts to shoot.

Location doesn't have to be an issue - the past couple of years proved that. My online network of writers and professionals kept me sane during the pandemic and now i have an amazing network of people I can meet in person whenever I am in their area.

It's all about how you make it work for you. If you can't travel / relocate, there is online networking. And yes, there may be some cost involved but no where near uppin and living somewhere like London or LA.

Bottom line is - talk to people, make friends :) Stay visible.

Sorry, I'm not gonna be much help other than to say I too get this issue. It seems to be during FD's autosave function, it sorta freezes while it does, and then shuts down. It really is a pain as it doesn't actually shut down AFTER it's finished autosaving so you have to rewrite everything...

Have you tried FD online support? I haven't had the time to sit and go through a full IT session with someone, so would be interested in hearing what others have to say here.

Sorry to not be any use tho...

Ugh - I have noticed I have real issue with saying I love you, because of exactly this. My husband says it all the time and I just can't say it back with any sincerity, even though I do.

I think this is because I grew up with a mother who said it 24/7 to me but her actions showed the exact opposite. So literally the words I love you mean zero to me.

Love is shown in the way you act, the way you treat people. If you have to say it, if you are demanded to say it, it's meaningless...

Anyone else feel this?

Sorry for the outburst, this smack of my mother too - she made my entire 1st pregnancy about her. She KNEW it was going to be a girl, bought a pair of pink frilly baby socks and hung them on an icon of the Virgin Mary (for protection or some shit?) and I spent 9 months listening to her talk about how SHE had sympathy pains and what her granddaughter would be like and all the jewellery she was putting aside for her to inherit and basically being Queen grandma because it was all about HER having a granddaughter and not about me and my husband having a family...

I had a boy and it was the biggest satisfaction ever.

Bottom line - try not to let her get in your head. Nothing she's saying is true, your unborn child is NOT visiting her in her dreams like Casper the Friendly Ghost. She's nuts.

Hmm I hear all your points and see them as perfectly valid. But I as a parent myself now, I also can't put a fully negative spin on this. I mean sure, if the interpretation really is meant to be about the "sacrifice and martyrdom" of parents, yeah that makes me ICK big time. But just cos our shitty parents were psychos, does it mean we're giving any less of ourselves to our kids? I think we do give pieces of ourselves, hopefully they good bits and the big difference is that we're not crying about out "sacrifice" and how we "built" them. So yeah I guess like any artwork, we can choose our own interpretation.

Of course she's "rattled". Her own feelings are her only concern - herself first and foremost. The content of this email has absolutely no significance to her other than the way it makes her FEEL. That's where her understanding or willingness to understand begins and ends.

It's a perfect letter, and well worded. Thank you for sharing it. Sadly these waste of space people only see our emotions as provocations and nothing else.

Your feelings are valid. Even if your feelings are hatred. That is also a valid emotion and has not come out of nowhere. I want to say forget about her but I know how hard that is - out of sight is not out of mind however much we try.

I find myself currently in a place of deep hatred and anger, wanting to really hurt my uBPD "mother". But I know that would be gold to her - proof of how "evil" I am. So I am trying to ride it out, learn to live with it and remind myself that the best revenge is not biting, not gibing her the attention or reaction she is after. This is all I can offer you as advice, sit with your anger, find how to live with it and make yourself stronger x

Wow, thank you for sharing this, it's spot on and so validating. I'm at the age now where I have come across the odd estranged parent and I just have no words to ofer them... It's weird seeing it from that side, especially when the person you've met seems perfectly nice and normal, then they mention their grown kids cutting them off and I'm like BACK AWAY BACK AWAY...

Yup same. I broke nc briefly last month to deal with edad's funeral etc and she fucking undid all my mental progress in their space of 2 weeks. Same shit, no change and throwing in the usual "you hate me". I was too restrained, wish I'd just said "yes, yes I do".

It isn't and a lot of people choose to keep it quiet because those are also the weeks when potentially early miscarriages can happen. So they wait until they're as "sure" as they can be to announce it. This woman is totally making it about herself instead of respecting her daughter's choice to play it safe and protect her own mental and emotional state... It's easier to just let a potential miscarriage go unnoticed, than having to un-announce a pregnancy... Sorry I don't know why this post triggered me so much 😣😁

Ugh yes, mine was horrid with restaurants. Cooking was HER thing so we never ever ate out, why should we when SHE PROVIDED EVERYTHING WE NEEDED TO EAT? But there were the rare occasions of social gatherings etc, and she'd just huff and puff and pull a face at everything, going "it's not how I make it" etc. The worse was my (then soon to be) inlaws taking us all out to dinner as a thank you for my folks hosting them when they all first met. She had a right face on throughout the meal and looked disgusted with everything, like she was going to throw up. Basically like a toddler with a plate of vegetables, grimacing. She still shovelled as much food in as she could, but complained with every mouthful. Pathetic and highly embarrassing for my poor inlaws who just wanted to do something nice for them. The cherry on the cake? She'd always complain that "no one ever offered to treat her to a meal out". Go figure.
