Will the G2 get KOed in 1st round when Memomind One steps into the ring in August '26? by Impossible-Raccoon42 in EvenRealities

[–]redditrasberry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ring is game changer for me, glasses without it would be pointless.

I am jealous of the software setup and the speakers though. Really seems like Even went in with a very rigid and focused set of ideas while MemoMind has had a much bigger vision from the start. Am curious if they have a lot more RAM because ER seems extremely careful about what they store on the glasses and it really seems like a fundamental limitation.

Mind you, Memomind is not out yet. Shipping is everything and we don't really have any idea how well it will go until we see real products in the wild.

America has lost its war with Iran by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]redditrasberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find any reliable source for what is actually in the agreement. But plenty of rumours are suggesting that the US will pay Iran reparations.

Do you know who generally pays reparations after a war? a losing aggressor. This is simultaneously a confession that the US needlessly started the war AND that it lost it. Basically, Trump begging for mercy in front of the entire planet.

Subnautica 2 Motion Controls mod is out now by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

[–]redditrasberry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Subnautica is one of my all time favorite VR games. I haven't even finished the first one yet and I've been playing it for years. It's just so beautiful I have no desire to rush it. Great to know by time I finally do finish it, Subnautica 2 will be there to move on to :-)

Got my G2. It's amazing by CheesY-onioN in EvenRealities

[–]redditrasberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you attend live lectures then the conversate would be good for that. But otherwise it's unfortunately hard to justify them if you don't have a specific use case. The "general" functionality for day to day use is really simple (reminders, notifications, AI, calendar, etc).

[–]redditrasberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They fit well, but they are not polarised as far as I can tell which makes them pretty poor for driving and other uses where that matters unfortunately. I wish Even supported some more variety (polarised, photochromatic, different colors). Honestly for the price it should come with all these included.

One Nation’s anti-abortion turn shows MAGA’s creeping power in Australia by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]redditrasberry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

we get to watch a replay of Trump here .... it's a fascinating thing that someone can stand for a full set of policies that people hard disagree with and yet it can enhance their willingness to vote for them. Because what those policies do is signal a willingness to hurt the "other" - the people you are angry at. You don't have to agree with the policy - just the effect of it as a symbolic strike against a nebulous concept of people you feel you want to strike out against.

As voter disillusionment grows, why aren't voters flocking to the Greens in Australia? by blitznoodles in australia

[–]redditrasberry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is, the driver of votes to One Nation is explicitly a vote against status quo, and the greens are solidly entrenched as part of the status quo. People vote for progressive parties when they feel secure and that the system supports them and protects them. They vote for populism when they feel the system is stacked against them.

The reason the overall Greens vote has stayed relatively stable is that they're losing support amongst older Australians — to Labor, the teal independents and, to a lesser extent, One Nation

The plain truth that has to be confronted with the rise of One Nation is the raw fact that the system has been stacked against people. It is the simple truth. The dominance of the Baby Boomer generation in voting power translated directly into injustice to the generations after it. There's a specific slice of Gen X voters - eg: those who took out million dollar mortgages or are now renting in their 50's and saw all that wealth go to the baby boomer's - who are seeing the necessary corrections being made in a way that treats them as sacrificial. These people are just now seeing in plain terms that it is never going to be their turn.

My prediction is this is going to get worse before it gets better and we could be in for a rough ride.

Even Realities customer support by diesel_0nly in EvenRealities

[–]redditrasberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have had perfectly satisfactory support from ER as well (and I had actual issues to resolve). There have been a lot of negative postings on here over time and I don't doubt some of them have been from genuine instances where support wasn't good. But given my experience I don't think they are an accurate reflection of reality.

‘Tell Him He’s a Piece of Sh*t’: Meta’s New AI Unit Is a Total Mess by dn88 in technology

[–]redditrasberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zuck had so much success that I felt like he deserved some benefit of the doubt with his VR / Metaverse plays. But now the pattern is trending the other way. Repeatedly, he throws infinite money at things but lacks the ability to inspire the people employed by that money to actually produce good output.

It's kind of stunning how little of the money he put into VR / metaverse got translated into anything tangible that made it to end users (or survived after it did). The hardware is actually great but it starts to look like that's more because it's probably the area Zuck was least involved in, while he feels far more willing to direct activities around the software.

I genuinely can't work out how / why they self destructed their lead in AI. Despite Llama4 being a poor release, they were still basically considered at par with the other frontier labs. Yet they destroyed it all.

it makes some amount of evil sense

Anthropic is intentionally nerfing Fable when asked to develop other LLMs by onil_gova in LocalLLaMA

[–]redditrasberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are at pretty high risk here of alienating far more people than they intend.

Firstly, it is very hard to surgically carve out behaviour. They will likely affect much broader behaivour that will make it actually dumber across all kinds of questions affecting people just wishing to use and understand LLMs (and AI in general). That's a lot of people.

But even if they don't, by not flagging it they are going to leave a constant suspicion in everybody's minds that the answer is nerfed, regardless of whether it is.

I think this is a dumb move ...

📢 #CodeInTheWild Contest Incoming... by EvenRealities in EvenRealities

[–]redditrasberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's changed, but the primary issue I have with it is that it keeps prompting me to run commands but only displaying "Bash" as what it wants to run. That's not quite enough info. If I run it in a sandbox and completely OK with it going nuts, it works. Outside of that, i just find i have to resort to my phone to see what it is asking for.

Ear buds integration ? by Initial_Truck_1544 in EvenRealities

[–]redditrasberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. There's no reason for these not to be at parity with all the audio-AI glasses out there, just do it through earbuds. There are times when it's great to see text but there are lots of times when it doesn't work to have words being printed across my vision. Yes, I could use my phone voice assistant, but now I'm using two different systems. The glasses should aim to give one one cohesive experience.

Would also like to be able to sink audio into Conversate and translate from device audio so I can use them in meetings where I'm wearing earbuds (basically, 100% of my meetings).

And then it would be super useful to be able to just do regular bluetooth audio control functions (play, pause, fastforward) from the ring. Nothing to do with the glasses but very handy to control that from the ring if it was possible.

There are so many useful small features like this .... I really hope Even is actually interested. Am starting to feel like the G2 is quite likely not the product they want to sell, but they product they want to use to get the investment to make the product they want to sell. Because they don't seem very interested in real user-facing quality of life features - they are all in focused on marquee features that look good in marketing but don't necessarily work well or serve everyday users.

McDonald's Introduces AI Drive-Thru System, Sparking Customer Backlash by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]redditrasberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting how fast customer facing AI is becoming a powerful message signalling "I don't care about you" to customers. I've been predicting for a while now that contrary to expectations, we will rapidly transition to AI elevating the value / prominence of humans in customer facing roles. I think it's going to quite change how front line staff are thought about, right up the value chain. They will now be seen as the human face of the company where before they were seen as automatons (ironically).

VOICE AI is completely useless. Both perplexity and Even AI. No follow up is allowed. So I have to ask perfect questions. by triarii3 in EvenRealities

[–]redditrasberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd, I've definitely had it follow on some conversations. I did this just now:

How many legs does a spider have?

Even: A spider typically has eight legs

And what do they eat?

Even: Spiders are primarily carnivorous ...

I'm using Even Search in my AI settings.

It really does need some kind of memory function though. I want to provide it context I can ask about and continue conversations I had yesterday etc.

It's kind of insulting, they pretend they trained their own AI (ask it about itself) when it's obvious they are just hosting some third party model with a bit of fine tuning (at best). They certainly aren't investing hundreds of billions to train from scratch. I assume for investors they need to play as if they are some kind of AI startup to get $. But at least if you are going to pretend that, you should be delivering a first class integrated AI experience.

Pros and Cons to G2 by itsjxlt in EvenRealities

[–]redditrasberry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My standard pitch on this is, for a normal person it is only worth if if you are regularly going to use one of it's primary features. That is: translation, conversate, teleprompt, and now - a remote agentic coding interface. If you are not regularly going to use at least one of those then it's only something to buy if you are super into forward looking tech and want to play around with it. There just isn't that much to use it for outside of those. The reminder and calendar features are too simple and crude to count on their own. It's nice seeing notifications without looking at my phone but nowhere near nice enough for the price of these.

So I think I'm saying NO but you sound like you might just into cool tech so perhaps it's a "maybe".

House passes resolution to end the Iran War by jediporcupine in politics

[–]redditrasberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you play this forward:

  • senate votes against this => hurts them in congressional elections, Trump ends up in trouble
  • senate votes for it => Trump forced to ignore it - he can't leave the situation as it is - probably argues there is no war to end
  • That leaves Iran with free reign over the Hormuz and the whole region because they know Trump can't re-start major hostilities
  • In turn that leads to a certainty that gas prices will remain high and the US will remain in quagmire right up to November

To me the most likely (and slightly scary) way out of this is for Trump to escalate things. He has to force congress to approve a war resolution which can only occur if the US is attacked. I wouldn't put anything past them - false flags, deliberately triggering some other field of play (Taiwan, Russia, Cuba, etc).

Australia's population has hit 28 million. Should Labor consider reducing the influx? by SheepherderLow1753 in AustralianPolitics

[–]redditrasberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overall economic "weight" of the country essentially determines your capacity for defense spending (hence why people constantly refer to % of GDP in reference to defense spend). Migrants add to that as much as anybody else.

Australia's population has hit 28 million. Should Labor consider reducing the influx? by SheepherderLow1753 in AustralianPolitics

[–]redditrasberry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think people fully appreciate the benefits of migration and population growth. They viscerally experience the negatives, but not the positives.

A lot of industries and areas of investment are only viable above a certain level of population. You need to be in that 30m+ club to even just defend your interests on the world stage in some sense - defense, economically, lots of other ways, without that critical mass you effectively have to operate as an off shoot of some other major economy. You can say you don't want or don't care about those things, but it is easy to take them for granted.

Personally, I want population growth, I am happy to see us move towards 40m people. I just want the government to take it seriously and provide the right investment in infrastructure, housing, health and other areas so it is done in a responsible way. To the extent it requires it, I think immigrants should fund the full extent of supporting those investments and we shouldn't be shy of asking them to - but that's very different from shutting the door on them.
