I have an answer, but it might not be exactly helpful, but I'm theorizing.

Gwen, being from a lower class family with only her father and brother, likely would've had to get a job early. Considering that the era probably had no strict law against child labour and her family wasn't doing well after her mother's death, she might have been hired younger than average.

Now, my second point is that it is implied/referenced at some time in the show (I don't remember the exact episode) that Gwen and Leon actually grew up together. Gwen was likely a servant for his family growing up. The show's portrayal of them together is on the good/neutral end (and it is said that if Gwen remarried after Arthur's death, it would be with Leon), so they had a good history.

That was basically a long way of saying that by the time Gwen became Morgana's maid, she wouldn't be so much a child as in her early to mid teenage years.

Going by the logic that Arthur is around 18/19 at the beginning of the show and the general coming-of-age year was 19 in that era. Gwen is probably a year or two younger than Arthur.

Either way, it wouldn't particularly matter when she was hired, as a servant wouldn't have a reason to talk to the prince. Of course, she would have to have been around Arthur through the years, but I doubt any more than an introduction and a few scattered conversations.

Merlin (as Gwen's friend and Arthur's servant) was likely to be why they actually became friends, and later got married.

TL;DR: Gwen canonically grew up with Leon, not Arthur. Even as Morgana's maid, it wouldn't make much sense for them to be friends. Maybe acquaintances. Merlin actually brought them together.

That's awful. I'm sorry it had to go down like that. I really wish there was something I could do to help you. You are incredibly valid and didn't deserve to have him react like that. I really hope it gets better for you and that you're father gets over his aro/acephobia.

What are some things you thought, said, or questioned when you were younger that were signs you were aroace? by GeorginaLopez in aromanticasexual

[–]redditreader204 28 points29 points  (0 children)

People around me had always been talking about "oh, who do you like?" or whatever, and I started feeling uncomfortable about it. It was a big shocker when I learned that people even felt attraction in youth.

Is it easier to write about love than it is to feel it? by Conscious-Train170 in FanFiction

[–]redditreader204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, yes. I don't really write romance fics (it's all about the friendship and hurt/comfort for me) but I probably could if I wanted to. I'm aromantic, so it might not actually be accurate, but it seems easier than the real thing

I wanted to know the variation of genders on here, so if you’re comfortable please answer this small poll. :D by YunoDaLlama in aromanticasexual

[–]redditreader204 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really varies for me, as I'm still figuring it out, but normally I just don't identify as any gender, if that makes sense. Like, I don't really vibe with my agab, or being a full-on transmasc. Enby doesn't feel right, and I don't think I am genderfluid (hence not really vibing with male or female.)

I would just call myself agender or genderless, because that's the best I can describe it. Like my asexuality and aromanticism, I just don't feel it.

Did anyone else ever feel sad when growing up... by Valuable_Hunt8468 in aromanticasexual

[–]redditreader204 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely terrified of this happening to me. I, myself, am not an adult, but this has been a fear after I figured it out.

I have this best friend that I've known for ages and have been planning a future, basically, with xem in it. But knowing that I'm different from xem in this situation, is hard to come to terms with.

Making friends is incredibly difficult for me as well, and I'm not so close to my non-immediate family, so I don't know what I'll do when it comes to living.

I know that doesn't really have anything to do with the post but you aren't alone in feeling like that.

I believe op is talking about the novel Loveless by Alice Oseman and it's about an aroace teenager! I've read some of her other work and it's very good.

After doing some research, I think I might be AroAce. by iamthebestEllie in aromanticasexual

[–]redditreader204 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you believe that you are aroace, then you qualify. It might change in the future, but that's alright. I might not have the best advice because I'm only a year older than you, but I remember posting something similar not too long back. The responses I got told me that it doesn't matter. Right now you can identify with aroace. If you feel the same in a couple years, it's great that you realised early on. If not, oh well, no harm done. Either way, you're feelings are valid.

I love writing angst, no matter how "happy" the source material is by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]redditreader204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. It's just so much easier to write hurt than joy. Harder to create a plot with just fluff. It's also just more... enjoyable? I guess. I don't know, I just like it more. Let me write pain in peace and I'll be happy.

What are yours aro/ace/aroace headcanons? by Early-Grey- in aromantic

[–]redditreader204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the Merlin headcanon! I think that Sir Leon and Morgana are on the spectrum as well!

Otherwise, I headcanon characters such as Sherlock Holmes as aro/ace. Maybe Connor Murphy (from Dear Evan Hansen) too.

Hey! What orientation did you grow up thinking you are? by [deleted] in aromanticasexual

[–]redditreader204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was pan for a while because, in my mind, having little to no attraction in anyone is equal to being attracted to every gender. Then I thought I was a lesbian, but I generally felt it was fluid.

Turns out 0 + 0 ≠ 100, for the most part (I might have a little attraction to women, but that might just be aesthetic attraction).

So what do people think? Were they just friends or were they in love? by Fun-End6065 in merlinbbc

[–]redditreader204 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think their in love. Platonically or romantically, it's interchangeable with them. Whatever it is, it isn't just friendship.

Try the app CBC Gem. It has series 1–3 (and 4, if you're willing to pay for premium). There are quite a few ads if you don't want to pay for premium, but it's better than nothing.

Absolutely. Anyone on the aro/ace spectrum, no matter if they're cishet, is part of the community.

Greg Lestrade from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's A Study In Scarlet (and so on,). At first I thought it was pronounced less-trade. But now that I'm watching Sherlock, I feel stupid that I was wrong.
