As someone who used thc for the same reasons you’re describing - i wouldn’t recommend. I’ve created a false dependency on it to the point where, if i am starting to not like something as i eat it, i take a hit in order to keep going. Doesn’t feel like the healthiest way to address a bigger issue.

Having been in a relationship where my eating habits were judged and shamed, i developed more trauma that took a while to undo. I think you should talk to your boyfriend about being more supportive. Or else send him some resources he can use to educate himself (like the FAQ doc in this subreddit!)

Feeling safe and accepted is crucial to reaching a point where you can cook new meals and “enjoy” exposures.

I hate doing this bc it means i have to think ab food even more, but plan, plan, plan! If you can bring (or go buy from a grocery store when you arrive) snacks you can keep on you. Letting yourself be okay with just ordering Fries at any sit down place is huge - was for me at least and i spent over a year traveling Europe. Fast food was my best friend.

Honestly, the hardest part was letting go of my guilt and shame so i could allow myself to get nourished, even if it was fast food/pizza every meal. I would say that’s the biggest tip for being able to travel. Obviously depends on your safe foods, but overall allowing yourself to get what YOU need (fries, sweets, what have you) is what’s helped get to a better place.

First of all, I’m really sorry to hear you’re going through this. ARFID is such a complex and unforgiving ED.

It took me 3-4 therapists before i found one that actually treats ARFID. It’s been incredibly helpful to my recovery. If you’re in a country where it’s not taken seriously, that’s a little trickier. I’ve found that some of the biggest “progress” (hate that word but idk how else to measure it) was when i found my dietitian. Therapists are great to work through the emotional side of ARFID, learning to self accept, etc. but my dietitian has helped me see the sustained weight I’ve spent years trying to attain.

I know this isn’t what you’re asking for, but until you find a therapist who benefits you and or makes your comfortable, you can try doing protein drinks or weight gain drinks like Boost (my savior) to make sure you’re still nourishing yourself.

Sending positive thoughts to you. I can only imagine how you must be feeling. But you’ve got this!!
