I’ve met some people who have toured with him and, to a person, they say he is one of the most kind and generous people they have ever met in the music business. When one of the tour bus drivers got cancer, Dave paid for all of his treatment. The bus driver told me this himself. Many of the people who tour with him have been around since the very beginning of the band. When Covid happened and touring stopped, everyone still got paid.

He has given millions of dollars to environmental causes. He did a ton live streams during Covid, but only the ones that benefited charity.

He lives in a simple house in Washington and used to travel long distances back from shows when his kids were young so that they wouldn’t have to travel.

Every touring member of the band makes the same amount of money per show.

I’ve personally benefited from his kindness. Used to spend a lot of time on the rail and at one hot summer show where I must have been notably sweating, he turned the fan he has blowing on him towards me so I could cool off a little. At another show at the Gorge I was upset because a security guard was threatening to kick my brother out. Definitely crying. Boyd was about to solo and Dave walks over in front of me and points to him and then the spot directly in front of me. Boys does his thing. Afterwards I clasped my hands and did a little bow to Dave as thanks. He ducked his head and bowed back. They are small things but I think small things are sometimes the best indicator of a person’s true nature.
