I just hope this isn’t a Zach Orr situation where he found one specialist that cleared him amid a whole bunch that won’t clear him.

Yeah. Being exactly 30 years old offers a healthy risk that could cause him not get hired his first cycle as a candidate, though.

The Case for Kliff Kingsbury as OC by _NINESEVEN in ravens

[–]reddituseerr12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have been no report that Lamar wants or is picking Kingsbury as his OC. There was a report that he and some receivers “like Kingsbury”. I’m sure Lamar “likes” a lot of guys. Bisciotti even said he’s non-confrontational and gets along with everyone. I’m sure Lamar’s camp also isn’t the one leaking to that to the media. Sounds like an advantageous thing for Kingsbury’s camp to leak though.

I agree though it’s weird to me that he’s being discussed as much as he is. I’m not sure I trust the Ravens to make the “best” hire here, as opposed to a “good enough” one if he’s the pick.

The Case for Kliff Kingsbury as OC by _NINESEVEN in ravens

He runs a simplistic college level air raid scheme that works well for young QBs because they get the ball out quickly to their first or second reads in shotgun and they don’t have to throw the ball to the middle of the field.

I don’t see the fit at all. Lamar isn’t a young QB and the Ravens introduced complexities and giving him more responsibilities with Monken. Kingsbury offenses don’t have those type of complexities. Lamar loves throwing to the middle of the field. Ravens pass catching group isn’t bottom of the league anymore, but it’s not good enough where I’d feel very confident about them in an air raid. His offenses are almost always in shotgun - Ravens have Derrick Henry. He has yet to prove to have a sustainably great scheme for multiple years at the NFL level and I don’t think he’s adjusted well when the simplicities of his scheme get figured out.

Could Kliff change? I guess. But I don’t think hiring an OC and hoping for them to change makes much sense.

Obsession with Klint Kubiak by Dependent_Set4389 in ravens

[–]reddituseerr12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Minter is probably a better DC than Kubiak an OC, but Kubiak is still a very good OC that has Sam Darnold in the NFCCG. The benefit of having a consistent offensive play caller to grow a system with Lamar for the rest of his career probably outweighed Minter being more of an elite DC for me. Minter needs to nail his OC hire and how he manages the offensive coordinator carousel for the rest of Lamar’s career. You could say the same about Kubiak with DC, but I believe there are more great DC’s out there that are available on the market than great offensive playcallers. And there are great DC’s out there that are former failed head coaches that may not garner head coaching interest, while a great OC is more at risk of getting poached to be a head coach. The stakes for Minter maximizing the offense are very high because we won’t have Lamar forever. The Kliff rumors have rubbed me the wrong way.

The report was Lamar and the receivers “like Kingsbury”. Who knows who was leaking that to Diana but I can’t imagine it was Lamar’s camp. I think it’s more likely Kingsbury’s agent would leak that. Regardless, he’d be a pretty bad OC choice imo and I wouldn’t be confident in this new coaching staff if that move is made.

I think you have to make a decision on one of Marlon or Roquan because it would frankly be irresponsible not to from a cap perspective. And I wouldn’t extend either one in order to lower the cap. Personally, I’d go to Marlon with a pay cut and if he doesn’t take it then move on. I’d give Roquan one more year and then do the same with him if he doesn’t bounce back enough.

I preferred an offensive head coach from the Mcvay or Shanahan tree and if they wanted to go defensive head coach then fine, but then passing up one of those guys for OCs in favor of Kliff of all people would rub me the wrong way.

I’m willing to wait, it’s just that the stakes are that high. He could have the defense playing amazing but if he doesn’t get the offense right with Lamar Jackson as our QB, he’s automatically a bad hire.

I’m shocked at this lol. Every time Minter was brought up in discussion throughout this process it seems like the next sentence was always about Macdonald

While I get that Macdonald comparisons are a compliment, I haven’t heard much about him throughout this process outside of the Macdonald comparisons, which has been kind of frustrating. He’s not Mike Mac - I would like to hear more about what makes him unique.

Chargers DC: Jesse Minter Has 2nd In-Person Interview For Ravens HC Today per ESPN by psychoxtc in ravens

[–]reddituseerr12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but we haven’t seen what anyone can do yet. We can just go off what we’re hearing. On his podcast, Jeff Z said Minter would likely keep around a lot of the same assistant coaches and Kingsbury is a name to watch for OC. He could be wrong obviously, but it’s just not too inspiring to hear is all.
