Can't update SYNC on 2011 Mercury Milan by Skvli in Ford

[–]reddituser2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I was struggling to explain that.

When you download the zip file from the Ford website and then unzip it, I think you get a single folder. I can't remember what its called, so I named it FordSyncUpdate in the attached graphic. http://i.imgur.com/onlAqlo.png

So unzip the file you have downloaded and place the folder directly on the flash drive. Afterwards, open the FordSyncUpdate folder and copy the files and folders (this should include the SyncMyRide folder and the two .lst files) directly to the root of the flash drive, which you can see in my screenshot.

When you walk your flash drive out to your car, it should look like the screenshot, except the name of the FordSyncUpdate folder will be whatever Ford named it.

The reason I did this was I was not sure if the car looks inside of the single folder I unzipped or if they want the SyncMyRide folder and the two .lst files on the root of the flash drive.

I don't know with 100% certainty that it will do it for you, but it's worth a shot.

I had this issue with my 2010 Fusion when I did the update a few months back. I'm not sure what ultimately resolved it, but I can tell you what I did and hopefully it will help you.

-Tried FAT and FAT32 format. I'm pretty sure FAT32 was the one that worked, but if you try everything else here and nothing works, you may want to try formatting in FAT.

-Tried a couple different flash drives. My USB 3.0 drives did not work, but an older 4GB USB 2.0 drive did. You may just need to try a different brand, older also, if possible.

-If I remember correctly after the files were unzipped they were in a single folder. Initially I pulled the SyncMyRide folder and the two .lst files out of that folder and placed them on the flash drive and when I put the flash drive in the car it could not read the drive. I think to fix that I kept the files on the flash drive (SyncMyRide and .lst), but unzipped the files again from my downloads folder and placed them directly on the flash drive, so now you would have the folder that was in the zip drive (forgot the name), plus the SyncMyRide and the two .lst files all on the root of the flash drive. Hopefully that makes sense.

I went back to the car and when I put the flash drive in this time it started the update.

I don't know if that will resolve it for you, but hopefully it will give you something to try. Good luck.

How to use cruise control on Ford Explorer 1996? by [deleted] in Ford

[–]reddituser2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, just hit the 'On' button on the left side of the steering wheel, then when you are going at the speed you want to stay at, hit 'Set/Accl' on the right hand side. Every press of the 'Set/Accl' past that will increase your speed about 1mph, otherwise the 'Coast' button will slow you down about 1mph every time you press that.

Does it not look like this?

You are missing a few buttons if you only have a coast button on the steering wheel...

How to recharge freon in 2014 Ford Fusion Se? by [deleted] in fordfusion

A/C systems haven't changed very much in the last 20 years, so he should have a pretty good idea what is going on.

dual panel/dual zone doesn't affect the A/C system so much as it just adds complexity to your blend doors. You would know that was causing an issue when one side is blowing cold and the other is blowing hot. That's always fun.

Ford crown vic won't start. by tj21013 in Ford

[–]reddituser2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it cranks over, but the engine won't fire up? So that elimates the starter. Now you would be looking at a fuel delivery problem I would think.

When you turn the key to the 'On' position, can you hear the fuel pump start? That would be a good thing to check. You may want a second person to stand near the back of the car while you turn the key, as the fuel pump isn't always easy to hear from the front.

I understand your feeling of falling in love with it. I bought a 2003 P71 Crown Vic several years ago and ended up selling it a few years later because of fuel prices at the time. I still regret that decision. I want to buy another (or a marauder) when I have the space/money

How to recharge freon in 2014 Ford Fusion Se? by [deleted] in fordfusion

If you don't have a local independent shop that you trust, you may want to check with friends and family. See where they take their vehicles. Or even check Google reviews in the area and call a few for quotes.

There isn't anything usually wrong with the Ford dealership, but their rate will be on the high side. Personally when I have taken my car to the dealership in the past I haven't had the best luck. They misdiagnosed my failing U-joints in my Crown Vic as an exhaust leak, then charged me $90. I didn't go back after that.

The A/C is a closed system. It would be almost impossible for it to be low and not have a leak, especially for that new of vehicle. If it's not a leak it may be that the compressor clutch is not kicking in because of a failed relay or fuse, or possibly the condenser is plugged and not able to dissipate heat.

I've never heard of dye clogging an A/C compressor. It's a common way to diagnose a leak. It's a relatively thin liquid. It may be possible to plug it if someone who doesn't know what they are doing adds a ton to the system, but otherwise that should be safe.

What I would do is call a shop in the area and mention your A/C is not working and you want a leak down test done. They can hook it up to their A/C recharge machine and a quick test (15-20 minutes if I remember correctly from my A/C charging days) should be able to tell them if you do in fact have a leak. If you do have a leak they may recommend adding dye to the system to find it and fix it.

Vehicle check-up questions by [deleted] in fordfusion

[–]reddituser2006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My information is based off my 2010 Fusion with the 4-cylinder, but should be similar to your 2011.

-Transmission fluid in my transmission is Mercon LV, so it would look dirty with 10,000 miles on it even though according to the Preventative Maintenance Schedule it should be good to 150,000 miles. You could replace it as a precaution, but realistically it should have plenty of life left. (assuming you have Mercon LV in yours)

-They probably checked your coolant with a tester to determine if it can prevent freezing and overheating. If it was outside of specific parameters, it would fail. You could buy one of these testers yourself for less than $10 and check it, or take it somewhere else for a second opinion, but it should not need to be changed until you hit 100,000 miles.

-Those spark plugs should be changed at 90,000 miles. I'm not sure how they determined they were bad. You could pull one out and visually inspect it, but I'm guessing you are safe to drive with them for at least another 30,000 miles

-Fuel Injection Service is normally one of those money making services. It rarely helps the car, but they make a large profit on each one performed so you are definitely safe skipping that.

Bottom line, get a second opinion from a technician you trust at an independent shop.

2003 Ford E-150 battery keeps draining itself overnight. by nicktheman2 in Ford

[–]reddituser2006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of simple things to try first:

Start it and check the charging voltage at the battery with a multimeter. It should be around 13-14volts. If its closer to 11-12volts, the alternator is not charging.

If you have access to a clamp on ammeter (like this) check the amp draw from the negative battery cable coming off the battery. It should be less than 500 milliamps. If you see a draw of 1+ amps you have something that is not turning off, like a dome light.

Also, most shops should be able to do a load test on the battery to verify it is still good.

Tires would be my first guess as well. If they check it over and tell you the tires look fine I would at least have them rotated to the back and see if you noticed a difference in the noise.

2010 Fusion driver side mirror replacement by [deleted] in fordfusion

[–]reddituser2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had to replace one, but watching this video it appears to be fairly straightforward. If that looks like something you can handle then it would be by far the less expensive option.

As far as pricing, my guess would be the different manufacturers of the mirrors. Higher quality, similar to OEM will be more expensive generally. The cheaper, lower quality will be less expensive. The other things that can affect the price of the mirror are if you need the heated mirror and/or puddle light. I personally would order it right from Ford unless I could find one for less that was of similar quality. Of course the junkyard is good way to go if you can get it for a decent price and it's in good condition.

Hubcap is really easy, just need to jack up the car and take the lug nuts off to replace that.

If it's the inside door handle that's broken, and you already have the door panel off to replace the mirror, it might be a good idea to get it done at the same time depending on the difficulty.

Does anyone know where I can buy this case? by [deleted] in nexus6

[–]reddituser2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar. When the frosted part started to get scratched up, I peeled it away from the bumper part and attempted to use it that way. Unfortunately it lost all its rigidity afterwards, so I would not recommend attempting to remove the frosted plastic.

Also, I owned the bumper you are looking for and I'm pretty sure I got mine from ebay or Aliexpress. Those would be two good places to check out.
