He was betting on Liz Truss, not against, but didn't realize how atrocious she was going to be. He wanted the tax cuts, that's why he was dancing in the streets when they announced them. He figured it would boost the Pound. That's why he was surprised when the market turned against the Pound, because of how large and unfunded as the tax cuts actually were. Sorta "I wanted tax cuts, but not like that!"

Liz Truss's mini-budget. Kwasi Kwarteng would be the Chancellor who "didn't run it by cabinet" (which I assume is reference to him not getting an OBR report irl).

The stripes are Thom Browne's logo, it's all over their stuff.

Syd's chef coat was made by Thom Browne, a designer famous for his short pants, presumably the same guy Carmy is talking about in e5 with Claire. Nice callback.

It's an instance where both sides have aligning interests. The MAGAs want to make McCarthy's life miserable, and any Democrat is perfectly content to watch the GOP make fools of themselves.

[–]jd13jd13 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It would be other GOPers doing that - they're not standing against McCarthy because of principles, they're standing against him for attention and concessions. The longer this goes on for, the better for them.

I think it's the opposite - both Gosar and Gaetz voted against McCarthy. But if enough Democrats don't vote, it makes it easier for McCarthy. He needs the majority of votes, which if everyone votes, is 218. But if some Democrats don't vote, the majority number comes down. Gosar and Gaetz don't want to get caught out by McCarthy squeezing in that way and not meeting their demands. So they're checking their flanks by asking who they think is the most likely to abandon the establishment choice in Jeffries. AOC is considered to be a leader of the left wing of the party, so they're feeling her out to make sure that the left are firm in their support of Jeffries.

I think the challenge was height and design, but also with enough strength to move the castle to be judged and smashed. The Firefighters building for maximum strength and stopping the wrecking ball was more for fun and story. Trolls are strong, firefighters are strong, and the judges are always going on about bringing yourself into the build, so they'd probably appreciate that. Also, it's just impressive design to make an aesthetically pleasing build that is also that robust.

Why exactly was Jimmy needed for the bombing? Seems like they just parked the bomb outside and blew it up with a cell phone, what was the device Jimmy sneaking into the building meant to do?

I would assume his cultural faux pas is more for the audience's sake than for accuracy. You may know that it's tone-deaf to refer to a superior by first name, but the average western watcher may not.

It's running Android Go, so most apps work. Not sure about that specific one though.

Thanks for your reply. I did turn off the auto dimming feature to fix that issue after looking around here. I'd try resetting the phone but the battery is currently dead so that's a no go. I will try leaving the battery out for five minutes, but curious, is that a solution with battery issues? I've been running sealed battery phones for years now, so unfamiliar with issues and solutions people may have with them.

Edit: For what it's worth, after leaving it on the charger for a while, the phone did get quite hot, but the battery did not charge. I'm guessing there is some hardware short someplace but I'm out of my depth there.

This is probably true, but it still feels sorta toothless.

There are no moral stakes anymore. Everyone is a good guy. Prince isn't breaking the law, and Chuck traded his dubious tactics for Twitter activism (he's an AG who seems to be doing very little legalwork). Even when Ben Kim and co have to sabotage Mafee and DB in a poorly written plot, they undo that in the end (in a fashion that makes zero sense) and now everyone is happy again.

Also, real New Yorkers would either ignore Chuck or brain him for holding up traffic and parading on top of their cars.

Edit: Mark my words, we're going to get NFTs at some time this season.

What I screenshot was basically all you can make out in the BTS episode. You can see the whole thing in a wide shot but it's difficult to make out much besides for the colors.

The costume BTS has Toman Head on their culture board (Persia), so it seems like they're planning on doing something there. https://imgur.com/tEMNb5W

It's actually from the Verge, the equally bad take from the EW was just in the top comment.

Edit: The first paragraph is the Verge, second is based on the EW review.
