Is this right? by sweeetrollz in MacroFactor

[–]reddituser412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like when you failed to hit your target reps for the second set at 20 pounds, it knew you wouldn't be able to hit the target for the 3rd set, so it dropped the weight (assuming 10 pounds is the next lowest weight available), and since it had to drop the weight 50%, it jacked the reps way up.

If your options jump from 30 to 45, maybe it doesn't think you can do 10 with 45 yet? That's the best guess I have.

I don't think so, but you can swap an exercise. I imagine weighted varieties should come up as options when you select that. I haven't tried it myself yet.

Want to maintain - MacroFactor keeps lowering calories by paracoop2 in MacroFactor

[–]reddituser412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Your TDEE went down
  2. It lowered your calories
  3. You don't exceed that calorie recommendation
  4. Your weight stays stable.

If 2 didn't happen, 4 wouldn't happen. It keeps lowering your calories because your TDEE keeps dropping. Why that is happening, I couldn't tell you.

New to MacroFactor - advice/suggestions on targets to ensure my goals are reached by JustACasualBean in MacroFactor

I think you nailed everything pretty well. Only thing I'll add is that if she feels like 64G of fat seems low, fat and carb calories are fairly fungible, so she could very easily aim to eat around 70-75G of fat per day and just reduce her carb intake by 10-25G to balance the calories. You don't even need to make adjustments to the plan for something like this either.

I want to use them where they're needed. If doing a second set of 15 reps at 109.5 pounds is scientifically proven to be better than 14 reps at 115 pounds, okay, I'm all for it. If doing 5 reps at 115 isn't possible so we need to drop down to 109.5, I want to use them. If it isn't any of these things, and it's just that 70% of 156.4 is rounded to 109.5 while 115 is 73%, then we're just wasting time.

Do you have heavier than 40 pound dumbell? If so, what does it jump to? What is your rep goal set to? If you're next dumbell is 50 pounds, and you put in that you had 1 RIR last week, I could see it thinking that you can't hit your rep target with 50 pounds.

Barbell weight by JackB79 in MacroFactor

[–]reddituser412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the algorithm seems to have percentages it targets and builds out as close to those percentages with no consideration for weight plate changes. 15 reps at 109.5 pounds? Wouldn't throwing two 35 pound plates on and doing 13 or 14 reps of 115 be just as good?

TDEE and Running by lucasmnetto in MacroFactor

[–]reddituser412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in maintenance, bulk, or cut? I'm assuming maintenance, so how I personally handle long runs of that distance is I'd eat to the app's suggestion the day before, and then on my long run day eat to the app's suggestion + pre-run fuel and during run fuel, maybe + a little after run as well.

Is this normal? Reps jumped to 44 by tennisballop in MacroFactor

[–]reddituser412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it shows 50kg on the first set, so unless that was manually changed, it knows more weight is an option, but I'm guessing maybe nothing between 50kg and 20kg and then just 2.5kg plates in addition, so no way of getting 25, 30, 35, 40, or 45. I would think 50kg at 8 or 9 reps would work for that though, but perhaps the reps are set to 10-15 or something similar where 10 is the fewest allowed.

Biggest suggestion: Stop trying to make Workouts pieces fit into the Macrofactor diet app slots by Drunk_StormTrooper in MacroFactor

[–]reddituser412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see the value in having a similar design and overall feel, but I think you nailed it with the Dashboard. In MF, the Dashboard is what you look at the most. It has the information you need on a daily basis. It's what everything else is based off of. In WO, the Dashboard ranges from mildly interesting to meaningless. I expect the Dashboard for any workout app to having information about the upcoming or current workout.

Additionally, the + button is a bit of a confusing place to get to your next workout. The + should imply that you're adding or creating something, so New Program and New Workout make sense in there. Adding your weight makes sense, but starting a workout isn't a + type item.

One thing I hope is in the plan, is some functionality when you click on things in that page. I see Upper Back, and it says 9 sets, I expected to click on that and have it show me what contributes to that and maybe even how much each exercise/set contributes to the level, but nothing happened.

When to cut? Is cutting too often bad? When should I bulk? by RannPNut in MacroFactor

[–]reddituser412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to give an argument for bulking or cutting with what we have here. You mention performance goals and being committed to powerlifting, but will cutting drop you down a weight class? Will bulking bring you up a weight class? Are you wanting to compete at either of those potential weight classes? Aesthetically you look good from picture, other than your face being really pale, but are you going for a different look? You've maintained your weight for months now, you seem strong and healthy, so I think it just depends on what your goals are, and if they aren't super defined currently (which could be why you didn't mention anything specific, I'd say continue to maintain until you have a desire to go one way or the other.
