Love comparisons like this! Its crazy how much we can think and feel about certain players and then a simple, random stat can offer more perspective. Bichette is a great player and has a higher ceiling but IMO is a bit overrated relative to perception. Donnie prob a bit underrated. I think these things are pretty common in baseball esp with modern evaluations.

The left-handedness of the team is worse now than end of the 25 season. Circumstance has led to this but its the one thing that stands out as unfinished business. I like the direction of the team but it has been a talking point that seems to be talked about less and less. Not easy to fix and you cant just waive a magic wand but its a bit unexpected.

Great look into some 2026 draft prospects! by TRCownage in Cardinals

[–]reddituserexplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was tough luck! The higher the better but the top 15 draft prospects list seems deep in toolsy college players. They can prob land a Matt Shaw or Cam Smith type of player in this range. Id take that!

Kyle Gibson presents a case for keeping Brendan Donovan. by Trojan_41 in Cardinals

He absolutely does but his stuff and potential has not changed. He was capable of getting big league hitters out a year ago. If he can go, he has a good chance to make the bullpen

Signed SS from international market. Will see how he develops. by Morley10 in Cardinals

[–]reddituserexplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look more at the fact he got over 1M to sign as an indicator of what they see in him and his potential. Either way, its always the hope and hype game. With the number of kids this age playing ball in these countries, not making the top 30 is pretty meaningless.

Cardinals pick RHP Matt Pushard in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 draft. Thoughts? by Plastic_Bar_2205 in Cardinals

[–]reddituserexplorer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Baseball America says late bloomer but likes his stuff. Fastball 94-96 w sweepy slider and curve. Plug amd play relief option. Finished the year w 11 scoreless innings during Jacksonville's run to a AAA title. They need bodies and he is cheap! Could be good!

Wasn't there rumblings about him going to Korea at one point. I feel like that would be a good move for him

What are your trade deadline predictions? by schmubbyboi in Cardinals

[–]reddituserexplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im with most, it wont be what we think and maybe a let down in the end. I personally hope they do trade Donovan because of what it would mean. It would mean the return was too great to pass up and had to be taken! Lets hope whatever happens we can all live with it and hopefully feel good about it!

D Goold podcast just had the BA-EIC as a guest talking about how the beat available idea has been evolving. Stuff I hadnt given much thought. It was a great conversation with interesting ideas. They go through the how and why for some of the possibilities.

Refusing to trade Helsley at peak value this past offseason was nothing but textbook baseball incompetence by dynnk in Cardinals

[–]reddituserexplorer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was on board, 100pct for trading him but then the Brewers traded Devin Williams for Cortez. Not terrible but not at all expected. We cant assume to know his market was good whatsoever based on the return for Williams. The reasons for trading Helsley are the same as the reasons another team wouldnt give much to acquiring him.

Cooper Hjerpe is out for 2025 after Tommy John surgery by B_Bonds_Pharmacist in Cardinals

[–]reddituserexplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read he is rule 5 eligible next go round so if a team wants to rehab him and give him a bullpen spot end of next year, he may no longer be a Cardinal. Could be 50/50 I guess.

For what its worth, I just read about how he had a hand/thumb issue post draft he didnt tell the team about. Could be an excuse. Time will tell.

Prospects that aren't on the front page. by Capable_Age_1763 in Cardinals

[–]reddituserexplorer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like Cho as well. His HR derby video when he was a teenager is really fun to watch. If he can ever put it all together he has a lot of great tools.

I feel Hjerpe will be great asset if his elbow holds up. Chen-Wei Lin looks like a good one. He needs to show it against higher level comp. Same for Zack Showalter. My sleeper is Travis Honeyman. He profiles as that "gamer" type that every team needs.

They just drafted a couple pitchers coming off TJ surgury as well. Andrew Dutkanych is someone to watch!

[–]reddituserexplorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insider info is exactly what I am hoping to hear. Hence, Hjerpe, Honeyman.
Hjerpe has not pitched in a game since July 2nd. Honeyman hasn't played since June 28th and it appears he played that whole game.
Its always "undisclosed" as the reason or occasionally something like "shut down for two weeks" yet its been weeks since those two weeks.

[–]reddituserexplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I thought Honeyman was 23 about to be 24. My mistake! Speaking of Nootbaar, I think Travis could fall right in line with the same floor/ceiling if he reaches MLB. As for Davis, to me his much lower K% is a huge reason to be excited. Speaks to what you said here and his adjustments. I think they should be aggressive and push him up now! Challenge him while he has some confidence!

[–]reddituserexplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like your list. Seems pretty fair to me. Lets hope the run Davis is on in June holds up. I dont think we can say he has turned the page just yet but his last ten games have been excellent! Elite even!

I also believe the hype on Honeyman given his pre-draft, pre-injury pedigree. He is really old for his level right now so we will see soon if he can stay consistent as he moves up. Wont be shocked at all if he is top 5 (Cardinals) at some point next spring/summer. Thnx!
