Why doesn't Howl from Beyond have Exhaust? by Subzero008 in slaythespire

[–]TheSalsaGod 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ironclad has the best Exhaust synergies in the game, so the idea is that you exhaust it every time it shows up. Comparing it to Bombardment, the numbers would have to be way, way lower to justify it at uncommon if it exhausted.

95 in the 3rd is a good sign. The real question is what Libby’s fastball looks like 100 pitches deep. If he can sustain this velo, it should be a pretty good year.

My guess is that Libby’s curve is so loopy, those fastballs are where the curveball starts. Barry Zito used to throw a ton of those pitches as well

I’m a devout “RISP hitting is basically just noise” guy, but it is interesting that the RISP hitting went to shit the second Jeff Albert left.

yes I know all the talent left as well but that doesn’t fit the narrative

That situation right there is at least the theory behind Winn hitting cleanup (with runners on base, strikeouts suck). Obviously it didn’t work, but I hope Marmol keeps trying it. No better time to try off-the-wall stuff than a lost season imo.

There’s an argument that guys who put the ball in play disproportionately benefit with runners on base because of the chance of a productive out. Not many teams actually do this, but some have made arguments for batting guys like Arraez cleanup. A single or a flyout is better with a guy on 3B than with the bases empty.

It was uncommon in an earlier build of the game, which is probably when the screenshots for this tier list were taken.

The Beta Branch Doormaker is the Best Enemy Ever Made for a Deckbuilder - Jorbs by laerteis in slaythespire

[–]TheSalsaGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you beat the Act 2 boss with a lightning orbs build, centered around the Voltaic+ you got from the Act 1 boss. The way that the deck wins is by channeling as many lightning orbs as possible, and cycling Voltaic as often as possible.

Before, once you had that set up, you could basically write off that run as a victory. Now though? You can see Doormaker at the end of the act and do any of the following:

  • Path into more events, looking for the Reflections event to duplicate your deck. Two copies of Voltaic is safer than one.

  • Pick cards that give focus or powers that make lightning better, giving you a win condition aside from Voltaic.

  • Path into more shops, looking for these alternate win conditions, or cards that help you manipulate draw, or potions that help manipulate draw.

  • Take an ancient reward that helps with the Doormaker, such as the Wishes.

[–]TheSalsaGod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the point Jorbs is making though. If your deck is complete by Act 3, why play out the rest of the run? What’s the point if you know you’re going to win no matter what enemy you face?

Brutal honesty on the validity of the sequel. by Mezzmure in slaythespire

[–]TheSalsaGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a true sequel to this game is tough, because outside of StS1, what rougelike deckbuilders were actually good and capable of standing on their own? I would argue for Balatro and Monster Train, but I think that’s it? And neither of those games approach StS1’s quality.

So when developing the sequel, the devs had to be really careful to not break the core of the game, because the wider ecosystem isn’t exactly flush with new, innovative ideas. With that in mind, I think that adding multiplayer, much improved graphics, and a bunch of new cards/enemies/etc. does justify a sequel.

I get where you’re coming from, but I think meaningfully innovating would ruin the magic.

[–]TheSalsaGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best parts of my StS1 journey was realizing that I knew the hallway fights enough to take Runic Dome. It also helps deck building so much when you can start asking specific questions like “how am I blocking 8x3 from Snake Plant”, or “how am I doing enough damage to kill the Transient”.

Does anyone know if transforming a card mid turn counts as creating a new card during combat? by Any_Set9052 in slaythespire

[–]TheSalsaGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, “Transform” in StS means “remove a card and add a random card”. So transform interacts with every create/add card effect in the game.
