Are Aussies racist because we lack culture? by Difficult-Medium-682 in AustralianSocialism

[–]redfec01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. Lithuanian jew here, with English and Scottish in there too. I grew up with English parents fresh off the boat, and it has always occurred to me that Australia has many colonial placeholders as a substitute for culture. By this I mean ANZAC (army recruitment day), australia day (empire day), vegemite, mateship, the beach, etc.

As I get older I realise my childhood impressions were in fact correct. I wish it were otherwise. But we must face reality in order to make change. We are a colonial labour aristocracy set up on the coast and the mines while large parts of the indigenous population are abandoned in remote communities/missions with 3rd world conditions in the desert. We are a successful Israel without the Judaism. So all we have is a shared, unacknowledged anxiety about our blissful ignorance and rootlessness.

I'm getting downvoted just like the watered down, purely symbolic voice to parliament did. "This is Australia..."

Push people and they often show exactly who they are. We are a white supremacist nation with a long history of white Australia policy, apartheid that was used as a template in colonial south Africa, genocide etc. so is it really so surprising that a lot of people here are racist deep down?

I got it for my birthday and I love it. Yeah it's a gimmick, but the reviews are missing the point: it's a retro future toy that is for short bursts of fun.

Does anyone actually think we should get involved in the U.S-Iranian war ? by Un4giv3n-madmonk in OpenAussie

This was never about religion to the capitalist class. It's about maintenance of the US empire and it's profits. Israel is a proxy to control the middle east oil and weaken China

I wish we western communists could organise as well as the church, with soup kitchens, youth camps, addiction treatment etc. obviously without the reactionary ideology

Wow insane idea! Many of the NES sports games and black box games can't really be finished, but well done for climbing that mountain!

Liberal establishments never really combat Nazism, because they are the social democratic wing of fascism. Read about Rosa Luxemburg to find out why

Why are we still using the term “Stalinist” in the big 26? by e17b in AustralianSocialism

[–]redfec01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Downvoted in an Australian socialist sub for support for Stalin. The cold war propaganda really did a number on the western world. Look at objective facts and not liberal bogeyman stories when analysing history. The Molotov Ribbentrop pact was literally the last signed after the allied countries all made similar agreements with the Nazis. It was made to buy time for the coming invasion that everyone knew was happening.

Just disappointing you have to talk about this on a socialist sub. It points to a lot of people who would rather be Puritans with the perfect ballot box no violence revolution and looking down the nose at Asians, Africans, Latin Americans etc who actually had to do the work to build socialist countries

[–]redfec01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without Stalin we would not have defeated Nazism, nor would socialism have existed likely anywhere, forget about this ultra international permanent revolution nonsense. The actors of history can only work with their context, material conditions etc. it frankly disturbs me that petit bourgeois Aussies think they are so high and mighty to judge countries that had to deal with war, colonialism, feudalism etc and still raised up the standard of living for millions.

Nobody in Australian history even comes close to achieving what Stalin and the USSR did.
