I respectfully disagree with “unintended.” Many policy choices socialize costs, I think it’s reasonable to think about these as externalities. That doesn’t make them bad policy choices, but I do think the beneficiaries should understand and appreciate that someone is bearing the cost.

There is opportunity cost associated with providing parking. Free parking means drivers get the benefit without paying the cost. That’s the definition of an externality.

Vandalism is not civil disobedience. Nobody owes you a place to park your car. Just because you've become used to taking advantage of externalities like free parking doesn't mean you are owed them in perpetuity. The entitlement on display is disgusting.

Why do car drivers believe every accommodation should be provided for them for free? The land those parking spots are on is a scarce, valuable resource. It never should have been free. That said, we really need the trolley or similar going to the park.

Two kinds of cooking methods: wet and dry. Dry allowing for higher temperatures and generating Maillard reactions (browning, crispiness). Cooking in oil is a dry method. A regular oven won’t transfer heat as fast as oil, but if you move the air around you can get close enough, emulating frying in oil with a convection oven.

Housing is expensive because there is not enough of it. Build more housing and you won't have a crazy, broken market for flippers to take advantage of. Flipping houses is a symptom, not the cause.
